How will flamethrower feel the boon hate?
I don’t think it’s going to make much of a difference at all, really. That’s only 3% extra damage from Warriors who trait it (It’s a grandmaster down their profession mechanic line), and there’s always been a risk of your might stacks getting stolen by a Mesmer, Thief won’t be any different. Boon stripping and corruption have always been existing counters as well.
One persistent boon, and even a bunch of short duration boons, are probably not going to get hit very hard because either the effect is very low or the window to time large hits for extra damage is very small. Flamethrower should be fine.

frankly, the FT is a weapon that is meant for high HP and toughness pools. 3% extra dmg from your (1) stack of might is not going to make or break you unless you are facing 5 warriors.
yes, when elixir B pops from auto trait in alchemy, it might hurt little bit, but something tells me that was the intention. it is something we have to prepare for, not cry about.

Boon Hate will result in FT users doing even more Might stacking than before!
Why? Because Boon Hate doesn’t scale with boon stacking and FT users will already have the Boon Hate penalty for Might from Juggernaut.
FT users may as well pour on extra Might stacks ahead of other boons, as the extra stacks won’t incur any additional Boon Hate penalty whereas other boons will.
Boon hate wont be bad for our FT builds. I don’t think a thief will be surviving on the frontlines to steal our 25 stacks either. Our biggest problem this patch is not being able to do anything while using elixir S.

If you’re that worried, you can always bring a thief or mesmer buddy with you to steal back your boons when they’re stolen from you.
We’re still not sure exactly how that ability will play out anyways. Some people on the thief forum are worried they’ll just waste initiative a lot with it and it won’t be of much use.
I’d be a bit more concerned if the thief stole a 10+ second protection buff (i.e. forge runes juggernaut build). They can already kill people in a few hits with little to no might stacks, but if you can’t kill them as fast as they can kill you, that’s when you can have problems.

Runes of lyssa any one?
If your a FT engi, it is time to reroll another class honestly. It’s going to be nasty out there.
Any idea if boon hate will affect condition damage (e.g. retaliation)?
Or will it just increase the attacker’s direct damage?
My understanding is that it is a direct % increase to the attackers damage. I do not think we will be having too much trouble with it, it is mainly a guardian counter. The thief is supposed to counter our hgh nade builds, I think our ft engies are going to be in the middle of too much aoe for a thief to even consider going there.
Once again though, the elixir S change is not only a worry its just plain crap! I have heard a few sparse complaints about invulnerable downing people, but that is not what is being removed. Never have I heard someone complaining that a kitten dirty engineer healed 3k hp while invulnerable.

gee, i’ve been telling you kittens to do that for months.
leave the FT to the big boys (edit: and girls) who can push more than one button at a time.

It was nice playing with them and Elixir Kitten X, now I am seriously considering changing it so something not so suicidal.

5 seconds is a short window, yeah. My experience with using Consume Ectoplasm on Thief (which gives most boons for a full 10 sec duration, stability and retal are shorter) is that those are all gone well before you can even count them—and remember, two of those boons are aegis and protection (and regen, and vigor). Those’ll buffer hits for the duration unless you get an unlucky boon strip. You’ve always had a chance to get smacked with corrupt boon using it, too, which I’d say is worse since protection will buffer direct damage but not an onslaught of conditions (not that you’d have protection anymore anyway).
Plus anybody using Supply Crate wasn’t getting that bonus for crap anyway.

I have been working on this exact build when I can find time to run SE, do you have a breakdown of it anywhere with a description of the play style? I want to run it SO bad, but am not sure if I should run soldier’s or rabid for my gear.
I tried it with Sup Rune of the Undead and maxed out at about 2k Condition damage and a significant amount of toughness on the Rabid equivalent from Orr, but I usually run a heavy protection build and am curious about the synergy with this gear.
