How you play Pve with Engineer ?
Using shield for block, reflection, -33%dmg for party and blast finisher, and elixir gun for super elixir & acid bomb for blast finisher.
When I have to save others with heals and wont have any left for myself, I just pop elixir S to save my own butt.
If that’s not enough, I dodge 4x in a row with elixir R after and should have some heals off CD.
Often using super elixir + elixir shell on top of each other if I have a troop of melee stackers with me, so they can dish out faster dps because they don’t have to dodge aoes and condis get turned to boons
Blasting pretty much the same stuff, and really love elixir shell.
Orbi + AB + MS on it in pvp makes the enemies doubt their burst specs xD
I just run s/d builds for open PvE.
THe mortar gives me all the aoe-tagging ability that I need, and if HT is on cd, gearshield is more than enough protection between dodges.
Still, just recently I started to train myself as tank (as preparation for HoT raiding), and it was amazing to see how much the AI is actually jumping your kitten if you have the highest toughness values in the area.
Especially in fractals it was quite awesome to have mai trin constantly chasing me, while i was eating up her condis & turning her away from the squishies that jumped her back. Even on lvl 50 I could very easily face-tank her in horiks lightning fields, and the fact that he preffered me as his shooting target made it so much more convenient as well.
While there is no real aggro system in the game (and mai trin was still targeting the furthest away guy with her teleport-shot), tanking is very much possible in a coordinated group by just having one stacking toughness, and even with core engi it works quite well.
Can’t wait to tank more often with scrapper
With your first build, you still have 2 water fields and 4 blast finishers plus a leap finisher outside of your healing turret. If you get in trouble, you can use Regenerating Mist or Elixir Shell with your rifle leap, EG blast, FT blast, and/or Orbital Strike blast to heal up.
If those are on cd or if you’re still low on health, a lot of times you can just back away from a fight and just focus on your more ranged attacks like grenades until your heal comes off cd. It’s a small DPS sacrifice, but much smaller than getting downed.
Also, don’t forget about your condi removal on EG skill 5 if you get caught with a condi when HT is on cd.

I honestly think the AI just likes to target engineers. Having played this game for almost 3 years now, I swear it’s just too convenient to always be targeted out of a zerg. Take the Bell-Ringer in EoTM. Countless times I’ve seen him ignore the zerg as he tried to catch me while I run around a pillar or hide behind some stairs. Not that I mind it anymore though. Being targeted like that all the time has made me a better player and I don’t mind solo’ing champions.
As for the OP, you have access to plenty of healing. I run the same setup of mortar, elixir gun, and healing turret. As I’ve been in thick zerg fights, which is arguably more dangerous than most PvE fights, and those three have often kept me alive on their own. No need for combo finishers, except for healing turret which is free if you blow it up. PvE is a much easier environment because there’s ways for engineers to exploit the AI. For example, melee units need to chase you, so if you know you’re going into a tough fight, switch to bomb kit and kite them. Or use endothermic shell + net shot + elixir F to slow them down while you keep your distance. Take advantage of the flash shell as well. It’s a very useful blind AOE that buys you time to run into the middle of a mob and burst them down.

Sounds like you play as “medic” ? And made good experience with that ? Or did i got it wrong ? That you more use the healing part of the party ?
Nice to hear , if this is true !

True , but for me it feels “painfull” to use Orbi or , JS and AB for 1,4 k health.I mean they are decent dmg skills and it would feel more as a “waste” for me , maybe thats , because my build is more dmg orientaited.
Yeah i try to do that , but it feels like enemies are a mecriless hunter and/or i gain from some other mobs the attention and getting wrecked by them pretty bad.Mostly , if im close to get HT back to reuse it.So ….UGH ! WHY !?
True i always use and im thankfull for it , even as a “little” healing. It helped me quite a lot,but still combos as engi are sometimes hard , if the Skill que que is so … “clumsy”.Maybe its just me , but thats a “No-Go”Smooth Skill queque or NO combo classes easy as that. That’s my opinion atleast.

So Im not alone with the theory , that monster hates Engineer !? So Im not paranoid ? lol .Peoples ,who play other classes says ,thats isn’t true , but it feels like it.
Oh nice you can solo champs in Eotm or somewhere else ? I managed it once to do kill the basilisk in eotm or in EB to cap a camp as zerker engi .It is quite fun and sometimes i enjoy the WVW , but it’s not cool to get wrecked by 5 players at once or more,if you are on zerker gear and they are on condi builds.Quite … please no !Why me !?
And yeah flash shell is awesome ! 6 SECONDS OF INVULNERABLE (Almost) It can be used for rezzing for saving your kitten or other stuff!Really great skill ! Everyone say it’s kitten , but i LOVE IT.Sadly the problem i notice so far is,that i switch to quick around with kits ,that anet is so “slow” to remember , what buttons i pressed or skills i used so it skip some skills , quite annoying <.<.It really kitten me off on engineer.
Nothing feels better than two orbital strikes into a water field, followed by EG #4 <3
“Mentoring engineers / mesmers and showing you what you can do with your fantastic class!
Just pm me for my advice! Always eager to help!”

I rarely had “luck” to see this “miracle” ,because orbi was on cd or i was to late or it failed by unknown reason ( skills was to fast clicked , that anet system didn’t accepted it ?)
But i think in 6 seconds dura you can do a lot more like Orbi , Ft 2 , Leap and with luck an AB,which gives you around 7 k health back ? or even more.
Healing turret and backpack regenerator are more than enough for me. I deal with the rest dodging and running. I think is much better to have plenty of endurance than much healings for PvE.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

Thats why im using adrenal implant , even , if its not stack with vigor , but its a nice trait ! and full endurance give you 10 % more dmg aswell.
Inversion Enzyme is a must if you play in groups imo, it’s one of the strongest traits in the whole game if you play a cleaner/healer, and I suggest taking it over BPR or SRD if you’re not a soloist.
Warning!
may cause you to let allies get a bunch of condis till you start cleansing.. and causes you to laugh like a maniac in pvp really often

Well, if you’re using those skills in your normal rotation, it’s not specifically using those skills just for the healing. The only difference from using them to DPS is that you just have a water field under you. If you pop Regenerating Mist, you don’t even need to pause in your rotation to get the benefit, which will keep your DPS high. Of course, this can prevent additional might stacking if you’d otherwise be dropping Napalm for a fire field.
However, in less than 24 hours, we’ll be getting Scrapper and you can use a pretty similar build, but with hammer instead of rifle and this will give you a projectile reflect, 3 evades, and a block to help keep you alive when your HT is on cd.
(and mai trin was still targeting the furthest away guy with her teleport-shot)
just wanted to say: this is a programmed behavior. something is wrong if she prefers you over someone farther away, regardless of stat spread or class. and its prolly the only interesting aggro mechanic in the game… others are random, “random”, or a simple sum of something like toughness + vicinity.

I know that she will never teleport onto the tank right in front of her, but she still comes back reliably onto me, if I run my toughness gear, regardless if I’m standing on the other side of the room, doing nothing, or not.
Tanked Mai 4 times today, had her glued to me in 3 of the encounters and 4th it kept going for a ranger.
Took some effort and model clipping to get her to follow me into the statics, then she broke off again and only stuck to the ranger and his pet, strange as we had a ranger with us during other runs as well.

shrug… typical leash range is 1500, and the room is only maybe 1600 across. its hard to be “out of her vicinity,” because if you were you would be able to ooc and free heal (which would partially trivialize the fight). so yep, she runs to you when you have toughness gear. youre nearby. you have toughness. and of course she teles to the idiot at 2k hp on the far side of the room (lol he gittin rekt), she targets whoever is farthest with that skill every time.
as for the ranger case, its likely that he had more toughness. in my experience, generally toughness = more aggro, medium or ele = tiebreaker. but the fact is, anet doesnt explicitly tell us aggro mechanics. if they did our lives would be clearer. and we cant fully inspect people. maybe the ranger had full zerk with 6 wvw toughness infusions or something and 1030 toughness was the most among the party, maybe he was knight and lied to you.

I play PVE as I play WWW…cond, dual pistols HGH build. turret healing. I tell you one thing..it works far better now than before my break 1 year ago…
