I'm having trouble with survivability - Help?
Elite: Supply Crate.
For traits, x/10/x/x/10 or x/x/x/10/10 can help your survivability a lot by adding Swiftness + vigor. As you have 30 points, I’d recommend 10/0/0/10/10, traiting bomb radius, invigorating speed, and speedy kits.
Grenades aren’t very good until you can trait Grenadier, which you can’t do until L60.

Alright, fair enough. But like, am I playing wrong? Should I be baiting or..?
And thanks for the answer
If you go full damage armor stats and traits(pow/pre) and start off the fight with smoke bomb the enemy should be blinded long enough to kill them. Thats pretty much how i lvled to 80 with engi. Also fury can help boost your crit chance over 50% at low lvls. I found Elixir gun is also useful for an xtra heal, condition remove, stun break and escape tool.
grenades are fine if you’re under level 60. i don’t know why everybody hates on non traited grenades. it’s for leveling. it’s not a dps race. i leveled my engineer with grenades and bombs when i was new to the game. it was easy and fast.
keep throwing grenades and planting bombs and running. don’t ever stop moving in combat. if you turn on free camera in the options, you can continue running forward while angling the camera to face behind you so you can throw grenades. 10 points into tools helps immensely with kiting.
i recommend this build

I hope you are not face tanking mobs; its best to be constantly running around while dropping bombs, like if you were playing Bomberman.
Thankfully, Engi has a lot of tools to increase survival. We’ve got whoosits and whatsits galore.
My favorite would be the synergy of Invigorating Speed (Alchemy I) with either Speedy Kits (Tools VI) or Infused Precision (Firearms III). This will give you near perma vigor, giving you more dodges.
Blinds are your friend. Smoke bomb, pistol #3, and grenade #3 are each very helpful in that regard. Yes, grenades are weak for damage without the Grenadier trait, but it’s got some use for blinds, chills, and poison field. Blast a poison field you’ve got aoe weakness.
Elite: always Supply Crate. Though I’ll admit, the asura golems are fun in open world.

All of this sounds great. Thanks for the help! I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to run around or not, so that answers that. Switching to supply crate now, and I’ll keep blinds in mind Thanks!!
or you can go flamethrower :P Power scales way better with a rifle and flamethrower/bombs.
At 41, get 20 in firearms, and get juggernaut. Equipping Flamethrower grants you toughness, constant 5 stack of might( 6/ 7 if you have might duration runes). There’s also heal bomb. Honestly, for me engineer got better and easier after 40.
With the increased range trait for bombs, often times you can hit enemies while staying out of their melee range. This isn’t applicable to solo leveling, but it’s quite useful when you start joining groups or your target is attacking something else. You can effectively melee without the dangers of melee.
