Engineer in general has always been one of my least played professions, but every now and then I’ll pick it up but it’s never realy clicked with me.

Keep in mind this is proably entirely my skill level on scrapper, but using the meta marauder build the damage seems really underwhelming. I gotta be missing something but people keep telling me the same combo (5 and 3 on hammer) and the damage seems meh.

Idk if anyone here is a really good scrapper, but help with builds and how to you know, actually play one would be awesome lol

You should first realise that Scrapper is not Reaper or Revenant. It’s not meant to put out crazy amount of dps. Where the Scrapper really shine for me is high sustain and team support with decent damage output.

For that matter you should change the amulet. For me marauder amulet is the worst choice for Scapper imo. I have made my own build, so I am not inclined to just share it, sorry. You should check other type of builds on metabattle and keep in mind what I told you. You can also try changing something in these builds to fit your gameplay.

The meta builds are the ones, which usually works best, but it’s not said they will work splendidly for every single player out there. So practise and experiment!

The Marauder Amulet damage is fine as long as they stay on point. It’s mostly about your AoE pressure with skills like Acid Bomb and your hammer skills combined with all your traits. If you are chasing someone or fighting a Bunker it’s still going to take quite awhile to deal with someone though as that’s just the nature of it.

I agree, I think I jumped into scrapper with the wrong expectations. I’ve already played DH and reaper and I kept hearing people say “Scrapper does too mcuh damage blah blah blah” so I guess I was expecting a bursty profession lol.

Scrapper seems really fun and it is, it just doesn’t do the job right now because I don’t know how to use it xD

I play Reaper and Meta Marauder Scrapper. I can get more kills on my Scrapper because it is less predictable IMO. Don’t neglect 2 and 4 on hammer. Almost every skill does good damage you just have to really stay on top of your opponent to get all the hammer hits in. I save 3 sometimes if I have to chase out of the field.

Also you should have really high up time on protection and be getting heals from superspeed swiftness and regen all at the same time. That’s what makes you so tanky while still wearing the marauder amulet.

I also find elixir X to be a really fun substitute for sneak gyro. Being able to Moa your tougher match ups is awesome.

Thats sort of the issue I have, is the damage is meh and the sustain is meh. I gotta be missing something here lol

Bear in mind that this is a WvW build but it transfers pretty well to PvP.

As some others here have said, Marauder Scrapper isn’t really about huge damage so much as it is about good personal sustain as well as group sustain. If you manage your skills properly, it can be pretty difficult to bring a Scrapper down and they can kill you pretty swiftly too if you’re not careful.

The build I’ve linked is weak to conditions but depending on who I’m fighting (again, remember this is a WvW build) I will often swap out either Sneak Gyro for Mortar Kit or Elixir S for Elixir C.

A good damage combo is to pull someone in with Magnet → Pry Bar→ Throw Wrench → Acid Bomb → Thunderclap → Rocket Charge and seconds after you finish this combo they should be just about dead so top it off with a Fumigate → Electro-whirl.

With Power Wrench, Pry Bar can do some really nasty damage. I have literally 1-shot Thieves a few times just by doing Magnet → Pry Bar.

Since this build is about half zerk/half Marauder, it’s a more offensive version of the PvP build but it’s the same basic concept. You can also change the runes for something different like maybe Pack or Strength but I prefer Traveler for the movement speed and because I get some really solid Boon Duration + some pretty high Precision which makes multi-hitting attacks like Acid Bomb and Thunderclap that much more painful.

Just remember that Scrapper is very much that, a Scrapper, or a “bruiser.” It’s a durable build that can handle itself 1v1 or 1vX while still dealing moderate damage. It’s generally not bursty but with a good combo you can get some pretty nice numbers. Thunderclap → Rocket Charge is a good combo but the damage isn’t amazing. It’s more about the chain CC that denies people from retaliating for the duration of it that makes it so good. The best damage on hammer comes from Electro-whirl if both attacks hit.

From a spvp standpoint, try firearms 2, 3, 3, instead of inventions. When your 54% crit procs, often, you auto jump to 74%. This is when you combine hammer 5 and 3. My personal favorite dirty little trick is to immediately switch eg and drop 5, 4, cancel, hammer 2. EG 5 is a light field with regen instant proc. Means you are going to buff retaliation to yourself and any teammates in vicinty, and you toss vuln. Yea whirl finishers are meh, no doubt. But it is another boon for you, and whomever gets lucky. Keep EG 5, 4 in mind. It’s an incredibly effective weapon combo. Also 4 stacks of might. Heal, escape(or don’t, you have a choice), retaliation, short cooldown. Hammer 2 is also a projectile reflect.

I would say that at least 30-35% of my activated-passive defense/dps is sourced straight from hammer 2, light aura reflection, and retaliation.

Use sneak gyro alot. Drops you as a target, if you destruct immediately you get a couple untrackable seconds + dmg + daze, aoe stealth. Will help keep your slightly Glasser build alive longer.

Sigil of sir + sigil of force = 7-9k crits, conservatively, for hammer 2, 3, 5. Also gives EG 1 a kick, especially if you keep some might up.

Remember to circle target with slick shoes if possible to ensure at least double stunlock. Toolbelt is a stun break and a heal. 1400 health, in stealth, with swiftness = chipped glass instead of shattered.

Sigil of impact vs. Force for stronghold. Npc’s often get smacked by cc, and 10% dmg to stunned or knocked down is a big burst. Superior sigil of speed is also kind of a baby streamlined kits. Can be used as another source of regeneration, with swiftness, also the quickness can be used for stomps.

Hammer 4 keeps your face pretty. Use it. That is all.

If enemy team has DH stacked, engage with caution. Their trap chains will bend you over.

Keep at it. Hammer felt super clunky when I started, especially compared to fluid play of p/p, but now it’s actually fun to see what kind of crazy stuns, saves, escapes you can pull off with the lightning field and sneak gyro.
