I’ve been trying for the past week to get involved with another character… The ONLY thing that comes close to anything near as fun as an engineer, is the mesmer, although the idea of a thief and ranger appeal to me, yet I always find myself going back to my engineer… And I hate it. It isn’t that I am bad at playing it, it isn’t that my damage or survivability is lackluster… I have no problems in those departments… However I am tired of being crapped on because I chose this profession. Or maybe I am just bored of this game… PvE seems completely dead in this game… Finding a group is hard enough without your profession having a bad name for itself… (Yes. I have used the lfg website.)

I think the straw that broke the camels back was the lack of engineer skins from SAB… Not only can I not play with anyone, I can’t “look good” playing with myself either!

Does anyone have any profession or what to do in game suggestions? I absolutely do not want to press 2 as fast as I can, nor do I want to faceroll victories…

They’re coming out with new worlds for SAB, and in turn I would imagine more weapon skins. Patience my friend.

Or maybe they’re not coming out with new worlds and it was a big april fools joke.

Josh said it would happen…. eventually. But the main point is becauseengineers have such a bad Rep I can’t even finish getting my hotw Armor… lucky to get a cof run…. All I can really do is spvp, solo pve, and farm bubbles in sab for something that may not even happen for another year….

This is so over dramatic. Seeing as I’ve never had problems getting parties for anything using lfg.com or even in game methods.

If you’re seriously having some issues getting groups for this stuff, send me a PM, i’ll get an HOTW run running for you within seconds. I mean it. I’m not talking out my butt.

I tried playing other classes. The first prof I rolled was a guardian. How dreadfully boring that was, he made it to lvl 6 before I rolled a Necro. Oh dear lord she made it to lvl 4. Then I rolled an engineer. It was love at first pistol shot =,)

Every RPG, every MMO, I have been a 1 class guy. It seems GW2 wont be any different.

Shield and backpack are available now. They’ve said Rifle and possibly pistol is on the way, for SAB. I honestly don’t see how Engineers are neglected from SAB skins, even as it is now. (Personally I dislike the look of the shield though, I prefer my Priory Historical!)

I’m an engineer for life as well.
I fear I might sooner quit the game than quit my engineer.

Mind you: it should be clear from my posts that I’m extremely critical of the design choices for this prof.
But in-game: I go with what I have and enjoy myself.
Being critical is for the forums, when I play I fail smiling or win against my own expectations!

As for skins: I turned and twisted existing easy gear untill i got this halfish steampunk sort of engineer with a bionic robot arm (in my imagination it is at least…)
Far from perfect, and hardly original. Still it’s the best I could come up with for something that should resemble a mechanic-engineer typ of character.

I’ll pass on most of the special skins people go after.
We look too much alike as it is in this game…

Tbh my issues aren’t with any mechanics. Everything feels good to me with my build. It’s just all the engi hate is nuts. Depressing even… my main sources of enjoyment are killing other non engi players. ..

Really, every time i come into the forum i feel like i’m playing a different game…
I mean, i neved had a problem finding party with my engi, i’m up to fotm level 20 and i use gw2lfg a lot, and never get kicked or blamed for everything…
Heck, right yesterday i did a TA run and there was this full zerker GS warrior that was spamming all the time crap like “OMG 24k CRIT!!!” before miserably get 2 shotted by ANY SINGLE MOB!
I swear i lost the count of how many time he died during the run…

And in WvW is even better! I eat warriors for breakfast (actually it’s more them committing suicide due to confusion + retaliaton lol) and even if i’m not an awesome player, i hardly lose a 1vs1, but as engi i find myself useful in almost every wvw situation… I just need to switch a skill here and there and i’m ready.

Really guys, i’m well aware of the issues and bugs of our class, but still i don’t get all the complaints about being a useless class.

that’s more about how good guardians or ele’s stack in a group set up.
The serious raiding WvW guilds I watched sometimes even have 1/3 to 1/2 guardians stacked…

Most pve runs could do with 2 guardians, hardly any group would consider 2 engineers a benefit, often not even one…

Guardians just offer too much to a group, and so do ele’s.
It’s not us, it’s them…

Bad profession design i fear, and it boils over to player mentality to a large degree.
You don’t need all those guardians to be succesfull, just saying I see it often.
I never ever seen something like engineer stacking.
At best they have a grenadier in a WvW raid. Standing in the shadow of the ranger in the back…

Such a thing never happened to me on gw2lfg… But it happened in my guild xD
The guild leader is a good rl-friend of me, as are other guildies.
I was the very first engi to join the guild and in the beginning they often asked me to change to my guard or my mesmer even if we already had these classes in the group.
When I asked why they dont want me with my engi the question the guild leader asked was along that line: “What can an engi do? What are its uses? Can you even stack might? Can you support? Do you even have useful combofields?”

Yeh… So practically the reason why they didnt want my engi was their own inexperience and ignorance.

Yeh… I guess the issue that is currently at fault for the engineer´s “bad” reputation is the inexperience and ignorance of other players.

Assassins were way more complex than the thief is anyway so I can see how you wouldn’t get into it. I think we can sum the thief up in one word; spam.

To hear such baffles me to no end. If anything, Engineers are one of the best professions for dungeoneering. From my experience they are far better in supporting a party then even a guardian. I am surprised I do not come across engineers more often when I play. Perhaps it is something a bit different to the typical archtypes that people do not know what to make of it.

The fastest group I went with was Guardian ele ele mes engi… 3 occasions where the engi saved lives… Not once did the engi need saving. They admitted it was better than expected. Problem is I don’t usually play at the hours they do…

This thread wouldn’t even exist if more people gave a chance.

And the complexity of the engineer is what draws me to it. Good assassins were few and far between from what I saw. But at least in gw1 we had heros and henchmen…

I have, and have been kicked at various phases of dungeon-forming, including just before a run would start. I remember being in a group, doing the ENTIRE CoF fight to open the dungeon again, and then kicked for some kitten who just stood at the blocked portal the whole time.

I SWEAR TO GOD I even had a conversation where a group-leader didn’t even know and INSISTED Engineers didn’t exist as a class. I found the group on the LFG site and when I said “Engineer” he thought I meant “ele”, when I said “No, Engineer!”, he went on to declare I’m not playing the same game, as Engineer isn’t a class…

So yeah, as Phelan said, it’s not the class itself, it’s the stigma & stereotype that follow the kittening class, and because of that, no matter how well you play, you’re doomed to mediocrity even before level 1.

I’ve also been constantly asked if I have another 80 on forming a group. Fortunately I’ve yet to receive the boot. The stereotypes exist, and as Phelan mentioned; most people don’t give the class a chance.

Because it is indeed quite complex to play the class well, and frankly, hardly seems worth the effort when there are other classes that can be more directly useful in a group.

never failed me. Maybe Im not as hardcore a PvE player as some ppl here are but I honestly never had problems.
They didnt complain about me being an engineer, either. Or any other class, for that matter.

The only times I’ve been asked for another class is with groups via gw2lfg.

I’m not saying anything good or bad about the site either way, I’ve had fantastic groups and I’ve had mediocre ones. Luck of the draw, more or less.

Seriously, if I want to do a dungeon, I just go stand in front of it in a populated server. Someone is USUALLY looking for one extra person.

I’ve also tried that approach. It makes me feel like the fat kid in dodgeball…

Well, that is just plain ignorance, because that guy doesn’t even know what game is playing >.<

I have never been kicked from a group for not being an Engineer. I have only not been invited once (oddly enough the only time I can ever remember even being asked what my profession was before invite), but I found another group that went smoothly a couple minutes later.

Avoid groups that spam “lfm, need ____”, and if you get booted for being an Engineer you probably didn’t want to be in that group anyways. I mean it. In my experience those groups are worse (and take longer to form) than groups that understand this game is not built around the healer/tank/dps trinity.

For some people that is really hard to let go of so they always make sure they have an Ele, or at least a heavy and high dps, etc. They’re just handicapping themselves.

I can only imagine this guy was trolling you. No idiot, no matter how ignorant, can truely believe a class that clearly exists in the game does not exist. It had to be a troll who was just pushing buttons. I’ve had people troll me in groups, never being that serious just to get me all riled up.

On neither gw2lfg.com nor /map do I have troubles finding a party, but maybe that’s because I advertise as 10AR lfg instead of engi lfg. Learned that from tombing, experience > profession.

Yesterday first time someone tried to dis me for being an engi. Told them engi is too difficult for most of the playerbase :p That comment is actually true. Engi isn’t bad, but most people can’t play it well. GW1 mesmers had the same problem.

you’ve had trouble finding a group? pretty sure every class has that issue (yes even warriors. tired of the not zerk? /kick)
personally I love it when other classes are around, who wants a group of the same class? the wider range of skills the better. I can tell someone knows how to play their class when I back away from a fight and suddenly got someone trying to throw a heal or 2 down on me or cleanse a condition. I’v even had a few times someone put their own char between me and the boss to take a few range blasts off me while I recover.
Classes should be ones you enjoy playing. not what others want.

I love the projectiles in this game for this reason among others. What’s really nice is we can do Static Shield and then start reviving someone. We’ll still have the 3s block going while we’re channeling the revive.

I’m honestly surprised at how much support-player hate Engis get. We have thrown elixirs, med kits, turrets, a wide range of combo fields, blast finishers galore, and lots of control. Not to mention high survivability (meaning we’re around to rez allies) and an aoe rez.

Same feeling for me. I made a mesmer leveled him to 80 geared him out… 120g later bored of him and going back to my engineer.

They need to add a friggin group finder tool in this game and if there’s one knock I give GW2 is that there isn’t one. they have announced the plans for a LFG option before the end of 2013. problem is with wording like that will have to likely wait till the “end” of the year

The biggest problem in my opinion is the lack of education that non-Engis have. We are a complicated profession with a ton of options. People always fear what they don’t know.

I can tell you that whatever dungeon group I join, I contribute better in almost every way than just about any other player. Its just not noticed easily like things such as Aegis that Guardian provides or other abilities that are easy to recognise with big shiny fields or animations.

I run a bomb healing build in dungeons and its absolutely OP. I’m basically unkillable and face tank almost everything. The Elixir gun is awesome for dungeons too. I pass on so much survivability to my group they don’t even realise how much easier I’m making it until I leave. I can’t count how many whispers I’ve had after I left a group saying they want me back because as soon as I left they started to wipe. THey can’t explain why, they just know that now I’m gone things are a lot harder.

Take the time to educate your group with what you can do, the information will spread, it will just take time.

Op, yeah, all that running in and out of different ranges constantly swapping kits to combine abilities and effects so we can do damage and survive is a kitten load of fun – and not something I’ve experienced on the other classes I’ve played so far.

As someone who started out as an Engineer, I think the only other class that is in par in the “fun department” would be a D/D Ele. The best way I can describe the play style is being ADD on a caffeine rush and then being given some matches.

But yeah, I understand what you mean. I want to like using S/D for the support it offers but D/D is just so much more fun and engaging…
