Hi everyone! I know this has been mentioned countless times here before, so I thought I would spend some time with my imagination and flesh out the idea a bit.

That’s the idea there. I would be curious to hear constructive feedback on it Keep in mind there are no numbers assigned to any of the skills for value, so it is purely conceptual in how the skills would work – and I do not think by definition that it would be considered OP until damage numbers were assigned :P

EDIT: Additionally, consider the mortar itself to not even exist for the purpose of assessing the usefulness of this kit. It would be much better if it was removed from the game and we got an actual Elite Turret in the future (assuming turrets ever get fixed some day).

The problem with a kit elite is that the whole elite concept is a skill you use to instantaneously give you an advantage over your enemy to turn the tide of a fight.

A bundle elite, though, is a really good idea, just like warrior banners, and I think engineers having a “siege” elite is cool… Mortar is simply very very bad lol.
I guess if they could change it to a “mounted machinegun” where skills 1-4 would be channeled just like FT #1 and skill 5 is “pick up bundle” so you can drop it somewhere else for the duration would be way cooler and possibly functional.

I fully agree with the idea of a sniper kit. When I first saw the engineer class. The monocles, the rifles. I expected them to have a long ranged weapon. I feel as unless traited for longer range. The rifle lacks. Our grenades still throw farther untraited. I expected their range on the rifle to equal that of the ranger, if not surpass it. Though even melee classes, such as the warrior, and guardian, have longer ranged weapons than Engineers.

Point being. I loved the rifle of the Warrior. It feels like a rifle. It works. The rifle on the engineer, feels as if it belongs on the warrior. Engineers to me, have -so- much potential. But I feel as if they are the shortest ranged ‘ranged’ class in the game. Our kits outdo our three weapons. (Four combos.)

The commando videos that were inspired along the engineer, while clearly would be an overpowered class, seem to fit the idea I had more of them. I see engineers. I think turrets. Bombs, and sharpshooters. Rifles, even if not a sniper. But the shotgun has left me disappointed. Yes, it’s fun for a utility weapon, and I understand the engi uses kits. But it feels like we are some what forced to, in certain cases. (And while some may disagree with my ideas of the shotgun. That’s fine. It’s simply my take.)

TL:DR… Engineers need a long ranged weapon, aside from grenades. Sniper fits that role with them, on both mechanic, and aesthetics. This idea is gold!

If they added in a channel for the kit, say 4 seconds, it would make it more balanced. Not allowing you to just hit the kit, and start using it immediately would be useful to keep it different and not just another spammable kit when you need it.
I like the skills you suggested, but would also like a piercing shot, or poison on that last shot.

I don’t think sniper is ‘gadgety’ enough for the theme they’ve established

I would like a rocket launcher kit just for the fact that it could have unique aiming. Like aiming it like you would in an actual FPS. Imagine standing on a keep trying to snipe people with rockets >2000 range away.

I love the “walking siege equipment” feel to Engy’s.

However, a HUGE, bulky and stationary sniper rifle mounted like the Mortar and usable by everyone could be one idea to toy with.

That said having a KIT ELITE doesn’t have to be overpowered. It all depends on how you design it, for example a Minigun/Chaingun with an "overheat’ mechanic. Instead of cooldown per se, it builds and keeps heat so it’s usable and can be swapped in and out without restriction, but it’s still not spammable.

Me personally though, I’d like to keep with engineers insane/brilliant/odd thought and playstyle.

Orbital Strike : Precision Strike -(pick your name)
Gives a drag and drop style line targetting AOE. A red laser “paints” the area beforehand, 2 second charge. A white/blue laser (or artillery explosions) smash into the target area and slowly moves towards the targeted area damaging all enemies within. Deals damage every second and applying burn. Beam takes 5 seconds to fully reach its target/dissipate.

I thought mine was kept in check by the fact that it is essentially the same strength and utility of existing kits, but more tuned towards large fights like WvW. It has a lot of range and unique skills I feel, but it does have its limitations.

  • Cannot attack while moving
  • Skills have cooldowns
  • Skills require charge up before reaching full strength

I think its important that as a kit, it does not have a cooldown to equip/unequip, as that is one of the defining features of our kits; you put them on and take them off when you want.

Oh, as far as “equipping kits generates an additional effect trait”; Equipping the Sniper Kit will give you 4 seconds of stealth.

If this happened, engi would become my main.

I would like to say, that just the idea of it being a normal looking sniper rifle is not “gadgety” looking enough. I agree on this. I would think it would be a pretty kitten looking sniper rifle setup, but thats for a different discussion.

However, there is not much particularly “gadgety” about engineers as a whole which is definitely a problem. I don’t feel like an engineer, I feel like a commando
