Heya,

When I made my engi, now at 36 so won’t reroll just for this, I wasn’t really aware of what the various aesthetic options entailed (and how permanent they were), and went for story. Which means now I run around like a hobo backpacker all the time!

I can’t take the darn massive kit on my back any more, really. Anybody knows if there’s a way to hide it or change it?

The universal backpack that you chose when you made the character is actually just an item on your back. Its located in your hero window (H) to the right of your character and under your stats. You can either replace it with another back item which gives you stats or untick the checkbox so its hidden.

You sir are a hero and a gentleman, I’ll name my next kid, or pet, after you.

Does this apply to the temporary packs that appear when you equip a kit too?

I don’t think there’s a way to get rid of the kit backpacks, no. It’s the only thing that visually displays the unarmed ones like the grenades or medkit.
