Is there an effective Toolkit PvE build?

Wouldn’t say it’ s really good for PvE due lack of AoE but yeah as you said, stack power/prec/critdmg and you’ll hit really hard.
I actually like my 80 engineer for melee way more than my 80 guardian. I haven’t made a build for it but I’ve thought about it…
Swiftness on crit to help stay in range of targets (something Guardians have a lot of trouble with)
Swiftness on weapon swap
Exploit Weakness (cripple on low health foes)
Maybe Power Shoes (25% faster in combat)
Maybe Invigorating Speed
Power Wrench for crippling foes…
Basically engineers get a good selection of abilities to help speed themselves up and slow their target down, all of which is rather critical for being a melee.
The main reason I’ve never tried it is because I suspect we’re going to be too squishy, especially in a WvW situation.
A game that’s 100% WvW

I’ve recently discovered the joys of my Toolkit; it hits like a truck. There are builds for conditions P/P, grenade/bombs, FT/EG…but I’m wondering if there’s a build that uses Toolkit at its center.
I’m assuming stack power & precision?
Also useful: rifle, goggles, elixir U, FT, rocket boots?I’m lvl 45 btw, so this is a “whilst leveling and beyond” question. I’m 80% PvE but have started dabbling in hotjoin PvP.
Not really. Pry Bar, Gear Shield, and Magnet are all great skills and are what make the Tool Kit so popular in WvW and sPvP. The problem is that Gear Shield and Magnet are largely useless in general PvE and dungeons.
Pry Bar is great, but Concussion Bomb is just as good at stacking Confusion while offering a lot more with the Bomb Kit than the Tool Kit does in both group support (with Elixir-Infused Bombs) and damage. It also has a Fire and Smoke field to proc additional effects off your party members.
Yep, here’s a build I use with tool kit as the main form of damage and it hits hard.
’Zerker’s Static Discharge Build
works for both PvE and PvP
It a build that centers around high critical damage and critical chance (precision) and using spam-able tool-belt skills to proc Static Discharge. I leave the last utility slot open for other skills such as: Rocket Boots, Personal Battering Ram, Rifle Turret, or Throw Mine (which the detonation procs two SDs). This build also has a number of direct damage modifiers such as: Rifle Mod, Sharpshooter, Enduring Damage, and Vulnerability stacking. Another feature is constant fury up keep for increased crit damage output as well as increased crit chance.
In terms of numbers, you’re going to be sitting on a 107% increased crit damage, potentially 112% with fury and about 60% crit chance. This means that the Tool-kit auto attack constantly hits for about 2.5k, 2.5k, and 4.5k on the last hit on most PvE mobs and translates similarly into PvP. Static Discharge also hits the same as an auto-attack crit at about 3.5k each, but in burst hits quite devestating. The build is completely glass-cannon so survivability can be an issue, sure you got gear shield on tool-kit, but I left 10 points available for traits to change based on what I’m going against. Most of the time, I’ll put them into Alchemy for Self-Regulating Defense and if I’m really being beat, I’ll swap my rifle for Pistol/Shield.

This is my PVE Toolkit build. I run Fractals 10+ with it and can generally tank most things with a healthy combination of Gear Shield, Static Shield, and dodging. I also do decent damage thanks to 30% crit rate and 40% crit damage, allowing me to sustain damage on targets even if squishier allies go down.
I haven’t acquired the ascended backpack or accessories yet but the stat layout is identical, save for exotics instead of ascended gear. This build has served me well for a while now, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
