Is there an hidden cooldown on incendiary powder ?
I believe its 4 seconds.
There seems likes there is a cooldown on Incendiary Powder’s proc, but the problem is even with a 50% crit, you have at best an 18% chance per shot to proc it.
If you see it 1 out of every 5, then you are doing good. You SHOULD see it better with FT. That’s where people are noticing this internal cooldown and are mentioning it.

Thanks. Well, I bought my equipment to increase condition damage and it seems it would have been better to go for increased critical damage. They shouldn’t make hidden stuff like that.
I think it’s 5s. The internal cool downs are to prevent stacking high duration or many stacks of conditions from multi hit abilities like grenade barrage.
Otherwise with decent crit it would be really easy to keep long duration burning up use FT#1, or Grenade #1. As it is with good crit you can put it up every time you use poison darts on the pistol.
It’s still a lot of dps, and with OH pistol + FT it’s still pretty easy to get long durations burns up which greatly benefit from the trait.
I understand why they use a cooldown, I just don’t understand why it is hidden. And a full critical build seems better than a condition build for an engineer then, or am I mistaken ?
There are a lot of traits and tools tips that are a bit lacking unfortunately. Probably from tweaks or changes from before launch is my guess.
Condi builds for engi have their strengths and weaknesses.
I personally feel that if your in WvW or PvE they do just as well as power builds, but when you have larger groups power builds stack better because of the overriding conditions.
But Engineers can stack multiple damaging conditions which other profession’s condi builds cannot. Other builds may stack 1-2 conditions but as a P/P engi you can do 4, which acts as a nice counter to condition removal. Many abilities will only remove 1-3.
But you have to invest fully into condition damage.
I personally enjoy going P/P with bomb kit, FT / rifle turret, and elixir S / rocket boots.
My trait build is 10, 30, 0, 30 or 10, 30, 0 , 20, 10 If you use rampager gear for condi, prec, power static discharge and other power moves will still do nice dps.
Key traits are coated bullets (pistol shot’s pierce) incendiary rounds (burn on crit) (static discharge) [Protection Injection (if alchemy build)] [Speedy Kits (tools build)]
Considering its a trait in an inherently AOE line, and it can only effect 1 target due to its cooldown. its a pretty terrible trait.
And yes, there is a CD.
You can make an argument for a single target condition build I guess.
Also, since burns do not stack with multiple targets applying, 100% up time on them doesn’t mean much. you’ll just be overwriting someone elses, or they yours.
