Is this build awful?
I’d say it’s pretty horrible:
You’re playing with healing power when your only healing source is healing skill and eventually regen from time to time (no backpack regenerator, elixir gun, healing bombs) so that just doesn’t make sense.
No mobility, no blocks, no stun breaker.
Direct damage turrent on supposedly condi build.
Trait and sigil to improve burning, yet it comes only from two sources – no Incendiary Powder on top of that, which partly carries any condi build.
They are waaaay better runes and sigils.

Thanks for the feedback. You make good sense. Any idea of a way to use an engineer with pistol and apothecary gear?
Or is it just not a mix that will work?
Some healing power won’t harm engineer (like traits, celestial or rabid+apothecary gear, eventually separate parts of settlers/apothecary gear), but going mainly for it isn’t too beneficial as it is for guardian or ele.
Else you want some fun build to tank plenty of players, then sure – go for it, but normally rabid will be better for additional condi pressure and conditions on critical hit.
But even tho if you would really really want to make some use out of it, build posted below (for WvW, not sPvP) would be better in every aspect.

It’s very possible to use pistols and apothecary gear, but you’re just not going about it the right way.
I do not think turrets are the right way to go for damage, if you want to focus on healing Bomb Kit and the Backpack Regenerator trait are a good way to go for decent survival and condi damage.
Elixir gun is a good idea because of the #5 heal #4 blast/escape and the fact that the auto on it bleeds weakens. It also has a stun break on the utility skill.
Rocket boots are a good pick because of the mobility it offers (it breaks immob) and has a great burn on the utility.
Thumper Turret is also great because it has a blast on the turret overcharge with cc, blast on detonation, and a blast/stun break on the utility. All of which can be lined up to use with the HT overcharge.
With traits I would not go into the invention line. The toughness and healing power are nice but the trait options are very lacking. I would recommend putting more points into the alchemy line because of invigorating speed, protection Injection, and backpack regenerator.
Things that go BOOM
Utilities :
Nades/bombs to make use of your actual condi damage.
Elixer gun so your healing power isn’t going to waste.
Last one depends on the game mode your playing.
Traits :
You REALLY want 6 in Explosive for Grenadier and Incendiary power. Incendiary power is A LOT better than Napalm Specialist.
You should actually skip the Firearms tree COMPLETELY as its mostly a terrible tree unless you plan to run something like HGH or similar.
But ok to be fair, it IS A COMPLETE mess. NO offence. :P
Maybe start over with more detail? Where are you planning to use this build?
If its for PvE you can do whatever you want, but don’t expect efficiency.
As for PvP or WvW, you won’t get anywhere with that build but you CAN make use of Apothecaries trinks and quip in WvW to some success.
