Hey folks!

So I’ve recently come back to GW2 (at least until Darkfall: Unholy Wars comes out), and I’ve been getting back into WvW (my favorite part of this game) straight away.

As such, I’ve bought a bunch of new gear (some of my stuff was near level 60 or less O_O) and set up my talent tree, but I thought I should run it by the theorycrafters before I too far into it.

I was going for a kind of mixed build. I went for a grenadier because the grenade pack is AWESOME for defense (which is also why I snagged the spec for the mortar), and I also specced for toughness so I could run pistol + shield when I’m running solo or with a zerg (i.e. every situation where I can’t use grenades without making myself vulnerable).

Thoughts?

To get a good view of the build you would have to mention what your utility slots will be.

You also don’t mention what you are gearing for: cond damage, precision, power?

Grenades, and apparantly mortar as elite.
What about the other 2 and the healing?

Will you have sopmething to remove conditions for example?
A stun breaker or some good defense skills or traits?

As for the traits: why the recharge on the pistol? If you’re mostly using grenades than I think lesser cooldown on pistol is less important.

If you have lots of crit you could consider the vulnerability. Mind you: with steel packed powder you already stack vuln very high with grenades.

Another option there is the swiftness on crits. You have 3 chances to crit on each grenade throw after all. Depending on your precision that could be something…

If going 30 in explosives, and 30 in inventions, have you considered the healing bombs instead of the extra range on the mortar?

For range you’ll use your grenades, so the mortar is more for door defense for example, where the range does little.
Also: I tested that trait yesterday, and somehow I think the morar range isn’t increased like it should… could be me.

Infused bombs instead could give you a close range healing defense option.
Just an idea.

I am no expert at all, just throwing out some ideas on a first look at the build you linked.
But to get a good opinion I think people will need a litle more info.

I wouldn’t go 30 into inventions if they gave me a free legendary to do so, especially in W3.
Apart from that as Kimbald says you can’t really judge a build without at least seeing the utilities (although I can guess you want to go with grenades from those traits, which in W3 I would pair with a rifle instead of pistol/shield).

Sorry bout that mix up…fixed the link.

As to the spec that adds healing…I thought that it was specifically just for bombs. Does it work for grenades too?

I’m trying to focus on a mix toughness/power build so I have some decent survivability but good kick with the grenades. I picked the ram head and the rocket boots for when I’m using the pistol/shield; they’ve saved my kitten LOTS of times already.

EDIT: The overarching goal I’m trying to reach is a spec that makes me slightly less of a glass cannon, and more of a cast iron machine gun.

The healing is bombs only.

To be honest: if you’re only going to use grenades I wouldn’t go 30 inventions either.
If not for the healing bombs, I see little use in that.

A1s a replacement it could be an idea to get the lightning procs in Tools for example, seeing as all your tool belt skills have low cooldowns.

Or spend it on alchemy for some survivability.

Going 30 inventions mostly to gain some toughness seems a bit of a waste to me.

In the sticky there are a few grenade builds, most of them more ‘glass’ but you could compare those and see where you can get better defenses.

Your best defenses will come from the traits, not the gained toughness from Inventions.
I think, as I said: no expert.

Copy/pasting my post from the build thread:

This is my Bee Gees build for ah ah ah ah staying alive in WvW:
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mcMM9VMLaR0MLaR0x0aGaVkqzoso

30 Explosives for the mandatory grenade spam.
10 Inventions for regeneration at low HP and protection when you get crit.
20 Alchemy for a free Elixir B, protection proc on disable, and regeneration with a kit.
10 Tools for perma-swiftness when running across the map and on demand when chasing an enemy.

Grenade Kit is your primary damage dealer.
Flamethrower is for cooking people on the other side of doors.
Elixir U is for huge burst damage.

Elite skill is open, because all Engineer elites are pretty useless.

“Knight” gear for power, crit and toughness.
Cherry Pie for health steal on crit (procs very well with Grenadier’s three attacks and Flamethrower’s fast attacks)

Don’t skimp on the pie. They’re only 1c each on the Trading Post and make a huge difference.
