Guild Wars 2

Hey guys, I’m downloading GW2 as we speak. I’ve seen my friends and roommates play a lot, so I know I want to play an Engineer. That being said, what race should I play, and do you have any advice for just starting the game? (For Context I’m a Diamond Level League of Legends player, and I was a hardcore raider back in WoW.)

For race I’d just pick something that looks good to you because if you’re going to invest a lot of time playing this character you will want to like how you look. That being said if you don’t care about looks then I’d recommend an Asura because their small size can help in sPvP and WvW.

Oh can all the races be all the classes then?

Asura, we’re adorable, and our hobo sacks are small and not that intrusive for looks.
Hardcore raiding won’t really help you here.

Unlike in WoW race doesn’t really matter in terms of gameplay, so pick whatever you find fit. Many people go for Asura because their racial background fits the class and being small has it’s obvious perks in competitive gameplay.

My advice – Engineer is a pretty difficult job to control so settle well in PvE, complete events and renown hearts and learn how to control all your skills and kits, find out what you like the most and go with that.

Learn to combo too.

I suggest NOT picking a tall race if you can like how the other races look. Tall races have camera troubles when trying to do certain jumping puzzles. My Charr took like 2 hours to do Troll’s End when my Human took like 10 minutes.

Asura probably fit the best with the Engineer as they are the Gnomes/Goblins of this game; they invent stuff. Charr Iron Legion also works as they are the big hulking sociopaths that build cities and weapons out of metal.

It sorta sucks, but it’s not a huge dealbreaker. For PvP it doesn’t matter so much, besides the small Asura advantage due to smaller (harder to read) animations and dodges.
