So I took a break from my Engi for a week and rolled a warrior. I did this because they can use rifle and longbow at long range and the respective skills are really good. My curiosity and my altoholism couldn’t be ignored.

I am back to say man that crap was boring! Ok, the rifle skills were pretty awesome, I gotta admit. Skills all had low cooldowns, a knockback, 8stacks of vuln, a rapid fire, and an auto-bleed. And let’s not even talk about how all of that can be done at max range.

However, that’s about all it had going for it. The utilities are mostly boring stat boosts, I can’t abide a weapon-swap cooldown, and there was just no flair. It had no soul.

Once I came to this realization I immediately logged onto my Engineer and proceeded to express my relief by completely obliterating some Inquest scum.

To all you Engis that complain about warrior’s rifle being better than ours let me say this: yes, it is a pretty cool weapon (they even use the scope) but it’s not enough to justify playing such a boring profession. Let them have their rifle, because we have a flamethrower (and bombs and grenades and a big kitten wrench).

You should unlock the Fast Hands trait (15 in Discipline) before you conclude that Warrior is boring.

Swapping between your weapon sets (i.e., Axe/Mace and Greatsword) every 5 seconds is actually very enjoyable, and not that much different from the experience of a multi-kit Engineer. And if by boring stat boosts you mean 8+ stacks of Might and Fury, yeah, I guess so. Warrior is very good at what it does: offensive buffs.

But no matter what build I’m running on my Warrior, I always have that trait. It’s just so good. I wish Guardian had something similar.

Is it all in the traits then? Is that what adds variety and dynamic play to warriors? Or am I just spoiled by Engineer?

I would say that Warrior has some very interesting traits that make the class more interesting, yes.

But if you’re seeking an experience similar to the Engineer in complexity, you won’t find one. The Warrior is a very simple class.

For example: they don’t have to babysit their turrets; they just drop a banner and forget about it. The full extent of what they’ll do is pick it up and use Inspire for group Swiftness, Furious Rally with the Banner of Discipline for group Fury, or Plant Standard for a Blast finisher.

I don’t meant to imply that the class is “easy” necessarily. I would say playing Guardian is infinitely easier, and a much better experience in PvP and WvW—the latter of which could be similarly stated for Engineers.

But Warrior is very good at DPS, and it’s very good at offensive boon support. If that’s what you’re into, try leveling it up a bit more. I certainly love mine, but Engineer is and always will be my “main.” There’s things the Engineer can do that a Warrior simply cannot, which happen to similarly be my preferred style of play.

I have also recently tried playing the Warrior, and I found it incredibly dull. The one thing I do find rather disappointing about the engineer is that the “Hip Shot” animation is incredibly dull, personally, raising a rifle, shotgun, etc. to your head to aim is just so much cooler, though, that is probably just me complaining about aesthetics again. In my honest opinion, the Engineer, can easily outhit any classes if you build yours amazingly well.
