I’m wondering if they nerfed us like this because the weapon stats on kits will bring them back up? If they do will they nerf them again? Will they make it so grenades gains no benefit or some kind of lower benefit from weapons? Really wonder if I even care enough to play engineers anymore to find out

The thing is, weapon stats on kits will only further serve to specialize engineers on their itemized roles and further move them away from being a mid-fight multi-role class. It’s crazy, but the more independent kits are from engineer stats, the better it is for the idea of a “hybrid” class because they can have their own itemization (the way elementalist conjurations can).
I will be ok with this nerf if we get something instead of this. Some usable stability for example. Or maybe some rush skills like ely who is also described as “versatile”. Or buffs what we dont need manualy targeted or aiming like other classes. Or skills without rng effects what just make skill useless because you never get effect what you want in certain situation.

Weaponstats are already applied to kits in sPvP, since here all stats (including the ones from your weapon) are applied by a single Amulet.
Only if they add weapondamage into the mix would they likely start nerfing again. But if they are just going to nerf kits when they get weapondamage they might aswell not add it at all.

You called everyone in this thread a noob, but yet state yourself don’t even understand what’s so bad about it. So we’re the noobs….but you basically have no clue what were talking about. Because if you don’t understand why a %30 dmg reduction to grenade 1 is such a huge blow then that technically makes you the noob, amirite?
The people who think they nerfed the damage of grenades in order to make up for weapon stats are going to be in for a surprise when they nerf grenade damage again in the patch where they add weapon stats to kits.
We should all prepare for another round of damage nerfs, and not just to the Grenade kit. All of our kits could potentially get nerfed in the patch that brings in weapon stats. If they think Sigils alone offer a 15-20% damage boost, who knows how big a hit we’ll have to take to get effective weapon stats.

Naw, I think they’ll let it rubber-band. They know sigils don’t make up for 30% damage (I hope)—so I think they decided to nerf once, and then let it come back up after they bring in weapon stats. No idea why they’d do it that way, but that’s just my personal guess.
On the other hand, I remember one of the devs saying something about how good sigil of air would be with the flamethrower, so you never know.
Like I said in another post, they do things backwards around here
The longer they piddle around with balance changes, the longer they can put off actually fixing things. Overly cynical way of looking at it? Sure. They seem to be just shrugging and going “Well, we’ll get back to that” in regards to at least one bugged trait (Deployable Turrets) and one bugged skill (Rocket Boots – especially underwater).

I play engi since beta and I have a lots of pvp experience in various games (for example Warhammer Online where I also play engi btw). Yesterday I making pvp daily in hot join no big deal and I met a thief who just spam Heartseeker. Nothing more than that no stealth no no heal no other skill just spam one skill and almost got me (I use bunker build) simple as that.
Point is Anet promise balanced classes its why I bought this game and no I dont reroll to other class. I want play engi. I just dont want play on my keyboard like on piano doin best what I can while some noobish kid pushing one button on his OP class and after die go cry on forum and Anet come with nerf.
I enjoy engi and I will play him no matter what I always found way how to win. But in past Anet promise some things, like they will balance due to their own experiences not on cry topics. And now I see post like “we test it on dummies and it work well” and I am so disappointed.. Sorry for bad english

And can’t forget that they also added damage to blind and poison grenades.

My grenade auto-attack does 900 damage, so 2 auto-attacks would be reduced by 30% is what 600 damage reduced? Sigil of Air/fire procs for 800-900 damage on a 5 second CD for crits. I might be missing something, but I seriously don’t get what the big fuss is, unless you ONLY use grenade kit then I could see the problem.

They nerfed EVERY kit by about 30% dmg, not just grenades you know.
In addition:
-turrets have always been useless
-engineer damage outside of kits is pitiful compared to most classes (our normal weapon skills are based on control more than damage, but other classes get this without the same tradeoffs engineers do)
-healing nerfs to engies

You are also a noob because in your own statement you prove why 30% damage reduction is just ridiculous
Most ppl don’t just stand around spamming there #1 skill, that is not a good tactic with any kits, kits are designed to be switched 2, burn a few skills, then switch back out.
So the fact that we won’t be using our #1 attack as often in actual fights, because
1) you would be tossing your other nades and switching to Weapons or another kit
2) Since its not auto targetted unless you are an excellent button spammer and good at aiming you will not actually be getting as many hits with your #1 skill even if you did just use it.
So if we have a skill that by design shouldn’t be used as often or as fast or as reliably as other auto attacks, then that skill hitting a little harder shouldn’t be a problem.

I said ABOUT 30%. Every kit got nerfed supposedly to balance the sigil additions but in reality even the best minmax build can’t come close to what we’ve lost.

So… what’s your main class, warrior? Seriously, I doubt your main is an engineer as to you don’t exactly see the point how this nerf affects our class at all. Did you even level through quests or did you just craft your way to make your engineer 80? Any engineer who grinded through world events and quests would know how this nerf hurts us both PVE and PVP.

Yup my main. Also got to rank 31 in spvp. If I had a “warrior-like” mentality I would be crying about this because of my lack of ability of swapping kits consisitently.

Air/fire sigil could potentially proc every 5 seconds for 700-900 damage to compensate for the 300-600 damage for the 1-2 auto-attacks you throw in before swapping kits

Meh, I’ve never used grenades in pvp anyways. There are far more better skills there.
But grenades are the sole option for engi in pve.
Sure you can go with pugs and do negative damage with some crazy “support” builds and clear ac for several hours, I dunno. But for a decent group of guardians+warriors engi is now a liability. And that is the worst thing about the patch.

What bothers me most is they’re giving the engineer nerfs instead of buffs. There’s nothing about the engineer that’s really great, it’s all just a mish-mash of mediocre stuff. You can get a surprisingly nice retaliate/tankcat build, or before this patch, nadespam build, but I’m not wrecking faces with anything else at all.
I have to choose all my abilites carefully before a fight just to do “alright.” If I get caught by surprise by anything, I’m screwed. That REALLY ruins the point of versatility. If it takes more thought planning and execution, it should be more rewarding, not simply punish you less.

It’s not like we all really love grenades. We would like to see alternative with comparable DPS in pve. But there is none.
And what did anet do to remedy this? They nerfed the only kit that allowed engi not to suck compared to other classes.

If a zerg jumps me around the corner I automatically stun break, pop supply crate, apply slows and blinds and try to escape. If its just one person taking me by surprise, I’ll probably kill him. I’m not trying to brag, but just trying to explain the engineer isn’t a broken class, it is an AMAZING class in the right hands, even with this so-called “nerf”, which really balances out with sigils. This grenade nerf only affects those spamming the #1 skill, it balances out if you’re swapping through your skills/kits accordingly with 1-2 auto-attacks to fill in the gap. Spamming a 1200 range AoE IS op whether you like it or not. What other class has a 1200 range spammable aoe attack? In close-range you’re not spamming auto-attack and the damage will balance out with the correct swapping/sigils. But enough about that.
People keep saying engineers don’t excel at anything, but I’m saying engineers excel in WvW.. Attacking/defending towers, taking supply camps, harassing/initiating zerg fights. You cannot tell me another class is better than us at these. Countless times I’ve initiated by myself into a zerg for my team by surprising them with supply crate, landing all my grenade skills, then jump shot into them as I drop all my bombs behind them and use my rifle disables accordingly as they try to escape as my team follows through for the easy swoop. Countless. Times.
Also the grenade kit is the best option from any class to use for ‘harassing’ enemies on top of towers. Just watching for enemy tags and tossing grenades with accuracy you can single-handedly make an entire team avoid showing their face at all over the top as you absolutely punish them for peaking over.
I’ll probably get hate for how arrogant I sound, but stop complaining. A-net is working hard and I find this game to be a lot more balanced than other games I’ve played. And don’t forget we’re not paying monthly try to be a bit more grateful for this amazing game and it’s continuous development.

I’m explaining something we excel at because people refuse to believe engineers have any strengths. And don’t get me wrong, Engineers aren’t weak in PvE either, the aoe damage/heals is another story.

The Engineer now benefits from the sigils on their weapons when they swap to a kit. So, this means that you will have the ability to get sigil procs on your Flame Thrower, or Grenade Kit, etc. This means we had to tone down some of the kits accordingly, the biggest of which was the Grenade kit.

And I’m trying to say, this IS a good balance.. How much damage do you get from your auto-attack in a fight? Me personally rotating through bombs/rifle/grenades/heals (as a good engineer SHOULD be doing since switching kits has 0 CD) I probably use it 1-2 times max before switching kits. My grenade auto-attack does 900 damage, so 2 auto-attacks would be reduced by 30% is what 600 damage reduced? Sigil of Air/fire procs for 800-900 damage on a 5 second CD for crits. I might be missing something, but I seriously don’t get what the big fuss is, unless you ONLY use grenade kit then I could see the problem.
Again. You miss the point. You cant argue with kit swaping. All other classes can do similar things. Warrior also has 2 weapons what they can switch right?, Ely has 4 attunements and both dont waste utility slots for them. And what is most important they autoattacks do 4x more dmg than engi while they have usefull movement, stability ect. And ofc they dont need hardly aiming as we must with grenades.
I dont want make engi easier to play hell no. I love how its hard and I enjoy it. I just want see others classes be harder to play then just push 2 buttons.

You say we got spammable AoE but you forgot that it needs manual aiming, physically trained hands (aka hurts your wrist) or gamer mouses (because even the thing they just nerfed still lacks a bug fix, which is auto-skill1), they SCATTER, they are easily avoidable, they fly slowly, they often hit the ceiling while flying, even in huge dungeons, somehow…
You see this AoE isn’t as perfect as you described a couple posts ago?
You should understand that most people in engineer section aren’t complaining because of the grenade nerf, we are complaining because they didn’t fix bugs and managed to destroy our only viable option instead of working fixes!
