Kit Damage decreased on prepatch value
I couldn’t have said this much better myself. What gives, ArenaNet? For how long are our kits (as well as the Elementalists’ summoned weapon bundles) intended to lag behind the power curve onto which classes who can actually wield their legendaries and ascended weapons are quickly jumping?
Yes, I realize that the damage scaling in certain bundles presents problematic concerns when their base damage numbers are simply increased to ascended levels. I observed an admittedly startling jump on certain grenade skills’ damage numbers when the base damage numbers were changed with Tuesday’s patch, and I’m certainly not lobbying to have those kinds of numbers back.
What I know I want—and what I think would go a long way toward quelling all the Grenad-‘neers, Flame-gineers, Bomb-gineers, and legendary-toting Engineers’ concerns—is merely a brief explanation as to why, yet again (we had this same concern and these same questions and this same discussion a year ago about weapon stats and sigils affecting our kits, remember?) those of us who use kits to be effective don’t seem to have been invited to the ‘cool kids’ party’ where the ascended damage levels are being done. Even a simple indication as to when, if ever, kits are going to be brought up to snuff would be sufficient. Pretty please, with a cherry on top? Just let us know that this is on your radars.

I think it would be fair to have the kit scale back up if you’re wielding a legendary. I don’t have one, and I will probably never have one, but those that do put a lot of time into theirs and they probably deserve that extra 5%.

I fully agree.
I won’t have a legendary or ascended weapon myself anytime soon, but those that have one or two should get their well deserved 5% damage increase.
Just like all other professions who weild a ascended-legendary have gotten their damage increase last patch.
Engi is now my main and really what I’m interested in playing. I am also very concerned with this. I’m fine with waiting on an upgrade but I want to know if we will or won’t get it. Dev’s please give us some direction here.
Blood~
This does not make any sense. Warrior banners and ele summoned items are NOT their main source of damage!!!!!! So is anet purposely trying to make engis usless in pve, even more? so we are not allowed to do as much damage as other classes with our normal weapons and kits? Over the time of launch and now, engis have been getting shafted all over. Engis being one of the classes with the highest learning curve and lowest reward is assbackwards.
Considering kits forgo the benefits of weapons, I’m surprised they don’t have MORE damage.

I don’t know exactly what that means. Kits no longer deprive you of access to the stat increases or sigils on your weapons.

The only thing that bundles—specifically, the Engineer kits, Elementalist summoned weapons, and Warrior banners (apparently)—do not inherit from your equipped weapons is the base damage statistic, as they have their own hard-coded inherent damage statistic (currently fixed at the exotic weapon damage equivalent of, I think, 969).

i think that’s why they hotfixed this, they realized engineer’s wouldn’t need to grind the crafting to obtain an ascended item damage to get the same damage equivalent.
you will probably find in 2-3 weeks when the crafting of ascended weapons becomes more common and everyone is running around with them then they will increase the damage again.
the problem is if they don’t hard code kits to scale with equipped weapons then this will continue to have every time there are item upgrades available.
Keshana Devone -80 warrior ! Cherry Doomblossum -80 ele !
Titanica Teenytank -80 guardian

This is what I expect as well, really; I’d just like to hear an official response to that effect so I know what’s coming and can plan and prepare for it.

I doubt they’ll increase them. If anything, they’ll have it scale up when you have one equipped. Also, to the dude QQing that ‘anet is making engis useless in PvE’ – calm the kitten down. Just because your kit does 5% less damage than someone else doesn’t mean engineers are useless. It just means you’re useless, if you depend on a 5% increase.
It’s a very good reason to shelve your engineer until kits get reviewed, unless you really love SD rifle and don’t mind that build having less other benefits and utilities than any number of other classes power builds.
Maybe this’ll get them to finally actually set it up so that Kits scale to whatever weapons are being used by the player. Otherwise, this is idiocy – on their part, I mean. ‘Oh, yeah, we didn’t mean to do that. We’ll just go ahead and undo it…don’t mind us…’ and not a word of explanation as to why.

Not like it’d be the first time…
Can’t believe we still haven’t gotten a red response on this yet

Apparently these forums aren’t sufficiently visible. Anyone want to go post in the bug reports forums about how equipping a bundle with a legendary equipped reduces your attack power?
Or maybe we should all just start tweeting our complaints (err… constructive and positive feedback and insightful inquiries, I mean!!) to @ArenaNet.

I assume this was done for spvp reasons (like everything else that happens to this class). Ascended damage doesn’t exist in spvp so they can’t just flat out buff kits/banners/conjures. They have to buff those only in pve/wvw.

I was thinking we could post it up on the spvp forums, that place is full of reds. The only problem is trying to find a way to twist the ascended-kit damage problem into an spvp one :/

Brings up a good question, I wonder if PvP weapons will get buffed, or stay exotic?

I don’t understand this though… they already have the ability to split a skill in two for PvE and SPvP/WvW. Why would a kit skill be an exception?
so people who don’t have ascended weapons should be doing ascended weapon damage through kits. good logic! and the fact that they reversed this change means engineers are “useless in pve” as some people eloquently put it. genius!

I think they just forgot to split the skills when the ascended stuff first came out. I’m just speculating, though.
Maybe they are waiting on ascended armour to bump it up to its best potential seeing as there isn’t really any concrete evidence to say that bundles were dropped back to the original state, a friend of mine did say that power was the main factor for damage output rather then weapon damage it’s self so it’s safe to assume that the damage was only dropped 2.5% and will be upgraded to it’s full potential when we have the other half our armour worth of ascended gear

Or maybe…they are doing nothing about kit damage balancing…just like they have done nothing about so many bugs/inconsistencies of the engineer class that have been present since launch. Maybe they just swept it under the rug and will deal with it when the rug has a bump the size of Mt Everest.
Maybe …kits should scale with your weapon…and not some imaginary value…from day 1.
Maybe …our class isn’t balanced and never will be because they are tending to 3-4 builds that revolve around 2-3 skill groups instead of looking at ALL the other skills that are bugged/useless and the class as a whole.
Maybe …balance cannot be achieved by nerfing a class across the board due to one of its builds being OP.
Maybe…at this pace the engineer will be “as intended/advertised on launch” in the year 2525 (if man is still alive…)
My point is…there is no indication from Anets stance so far that even remotely entertains the idea that Anet has ever bothered with the Engineer more than it has been forced to. There is a clear track record (the game has been out for over a year now) and Anet has never come out to say “from now on we will pay the engineer a bit more attention than we did” … Optimism at this point in time is something we should refrain from wholeheartedly .
" I don’t discriminate. I hate all of you equally…"

Your friend is wrong. Weapon damage goes twice into the damage while power only goes once into it.

I think we may get this in the future. I think they maybe waiting for people to have a chance to get their weapons before buffing every single engineer, that would seem fair. Anet have said they are doing something about the legendary/Ascended weapon situation, don’t count it out just yet.
It should have been planned for in advance. My Eng’s kits should do ascended damage if he’s wielding ascended/legendary weapons. Saying it’s ok/just wait/don’t count it out in the future etc. isn’t justified. It should have already been considered and been ready when ascended weapons were implemented. A-net is a major gaming company and should have considered this when implementing ascended weapons.

I guess here is the answer:
The damage from conjures and other weaponry of the like had an unintended increase from the patch on September 3 as a side effect from another change, so this fix was just to correct that bug. It’s not to say we’re against increasing ele conjured weapon potential in the future.
Cheers!
-Karl
I would say this goes against what they told about scaling of kits according to the rarest weapon-type available:
Patch Notes Janury 28
World Polish – Other
General
•Bundles from player skills (engineer kits, elementalist conjured weapons, warrior banners) now have base damage that is consistent with the highest rarity weapons available at the level of the player.
But probably they didn´t really mean it the way they wrote it . .

Thank you for digging up that quote. I looked for it for almost an hour on the web thinking that it had come from a developer livestream or interview, and had no success; eventually, I gave up. It never dawned on me to dig through the update notes.
