Im mostly small group roamer from smaller server and have been running SD +rifle which is terrific in small scale wvw battles. Recently my guild has gone up in numbers and organized game play a lot and i just feel that SD chokes in massive zerg fights. I was soon to find out that in this blob vs blob engi cant be damage machine so Im looking for more supportive buffing build. Any pro level (in pro guild) engineers want to share some supportive builds? -traits, gear and reasoning. (I get this for x and this for y).

I have a few builds I use and a few I am playing around with

right now I am using 2 variations on SD.

one is rifle – healing turret – eg – slick shoes – rocket boots – supply crate

you spec generally

0 30 10 0 30 with rifle traits, the 20% reduced damage while cc’d, and then SD, gadget cd, and then kit refinement.

It sounds odd but it works well.

You have a great condi remover with fumigate and super elixir on the EG, and plent of blasts and CC breaks.

The way you play it is to utilized a combination of our group pool CC with super speed + leaps.

As in if you use slick shoes them rocket boots you leave a line of the knock down goo, which can be used to stun tightly group zergs.

If you swap in EG you get immobilize goo which does the same.

Basically you can rocket in and stun, and then EG out and immobilize, with a supply crate in their for good CC.

You really need to bring defensive gear, knights or invaders is a must really, and you have to learn to aim the jumps well. Keep in mind the pools are small radius and enemies have to move on them to be cc’d.

But with practice you get good at lining in zergs or cutting guild groups in half as they move.

The other spec is more standard.

rifle – ht – tool kit – thumper – rifle turret – supply crate.

same general setup but you can swap points into explosives if you like for more power, its a defensive gear setup. I tend to do a mix of knight / invader gear, with beryl orbs for extra crit damage, and a valk rifle. It mixes well. Good toughness, with good vit, and okay dps.

this is front line support, I often switch in EG in place of TK.

the idea is as you push in drop tumper and rifle in a safe place, overcharge thumper if your close to it. When your leader calls for it detonate the turrets for 3-4 blasts depending on if your close to the thumper. You can use this in connection with the healing turret tool belt to nearly max your own water field for around 5-6k aoe healing.

you can also use it for might or ret stacking. But in general you play in the front use rifle / tk for a bit of dps on top of the blasts and SD burst when you use a water field.

Engineers have something unique in the fact that we have a lot of blast finishers that we can preload going into a fight. They might not be as constant as warrior blasts, but dropping 4-5 in quick sucesssion is extremely powerful for guild groups.

that’s what i use when i’m going a guild roam if i’m going support anyway with this i can easily stay on the front lines with out to much problems you have healing turret that used with a team can provide massive amounts of aoe healing for the team when you do a push, you’ve got ridiculous amounts of aoe conditions especially conditions that counter the enemy like blind and cripple/immo and a kitten ton of chilling, runes of grenth and sigil of hydromancy you can change to what you want but give it a shot i was surprised about its performance when i first ran it, you can also take the 10 out of alchemy and put it into healing bombs since if your anything like me be doing lots of bombing on the front lines where the extra team heals are very welcome.

This is a build in progress I’ve been working on for frontlines of zergs and such that is support engi role. This is not exactly what I’ve been running cause I’ve been tweaking it a lot.
The purpose of this build is to disrupt the enemy zerg while supporting your own. This is accomplished with a large amount of aoe CC.
The Build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIq6Z38SrF1LJxoCfO0D7ff1CqQd/oQuAA-w

Gear:
Gear is not included as it is dependent upon what you want to do.
If you want to proc conditions a lot I would suggest Rabid gear as that gives toughness which benefits more from small heals from bombs as well as precision (good for proccing on crit effects) and of course condi damage.
If you prefer the satisfaction of more direct damage I like to run Knight’s same as rabid’s just replace condition damage with power.
As for weapons superior sigil of blood is nice, will get you the most heal more frequently, if you want to support more though take water sigil, you’ll get less benefit but aid team.
P.S. If going for rabid take shortfuse in master explosives trait to lay down conditions more frequently, for power go explosive powder.

I generally use supply crate on zerg before running in, aoe daze+medkits for when you’re running around inside enemy zerg. I subsequently run in with static shield, throw it just as it ends to daze foes in a line twice, and place big ‘ol bomb. Then by switching to bomb kit I create a magnetic bomb(from kit refinement) which pulls a number of enemies in just before big ol bomb sends em out again, breaking apart some of the zerg structure. The bomb kit 5 skill is first one I use for aoe immo and cripple, then I use others if I can but try to focus on disrupting the zerg. I also pop slick shoes and run around trying to make as many people fall as possible. Slick shoes is best part because unlike other skills it does not have a limit to number of people it can affect, also it includes stun breaker now in toolkit. Once I have accomplished that I switch to FT and push enemies away(try to push enemies toward your zerg if possible)
In order to not die I pop f1 for water field(if you really got the timing down can have big ’ol bomb combo it) and I use magnetic inversion for blast finisher heal. When I use healing turret I also attempt to use any available blast finishers to proc on the water field. Healing turret is great cause it heals you+teammates and if you have blast finishers ready it is extremely powerful heal.
Variations I generally run involve removing FT and using toolkit for a block, or elixir u for throwing down projectile blocking/possible reflection.
For traits I increased bomb radius to aid in healing allies/hitting more enemies. As mentioned FT recharge to proc 2 skill more often. In inventions line I took traits to take less damage while stunned, move fast in combat(ideal to not get hit as much and spread out your chaos) and healing bombs for support+little survivability. And refined kits for magnetic inversion mostly.
I have run this build successfully in zergs, it’s hilarious to watch enemy zerg break apart just cause of you. It is important to keep in mind though that purpose is to disrupt and support, so CC takes priority.

I’ve run Engi in GvGs with success. It can be done. Not all guilds run “use these 4 professions or GTFO”.
