I am returning to the game after a break, and have picked up leveling my engineer again.

I love turrets, I love the way they play and I am leveling my engineer with the hopes that one day they are made viable. I have been leveling using them and they have been great until recently… I am starting to feel the dropoff. I am sure everyone knows the problems with turrents so I don’t see a reason to go into the issues.

That being said, what direction should I go to for leveling out the last 36 levels? I am ready to buy a new round of gear (Right now I am cond. geared with P/P) and weapons, so I am an open book. I should probably start learning a more end game playstyle as I am sure I won’t be much help to a group with my l33t turrets in dungeons I am also wanting to start doing some dungeon runs so I want to be useful there. When I get bored I might run around WvWvW but being a lowbie I am fodder so that doesn’t matter yet.

Use your kits (bomb, elixir gun, Grenade, Med, flame thrower), Elixirs (R, S, B…), and Gadgets (rocket shoes, personal battering ram, etc.) Specifically look at how you play with them and what the belt skills are for each. Will you use them regularly?

I like having 1-2 kits and am messing around with everything to see what works for me on my engie I am leveling now. I started with grenades, got sucked into the elixir gun, and I am trying everything else out for my third utility slot. I also enjoy the elixirs, especially B for the awesome boons.

It all boils down to preference and experimentation in the end.

A good thing to try if you’re wanting to test out builds is to go to the Mists and having a look at how they play and such (Useful for checking out different stats, runes and any utilities and elites you may not have unlocked)

It’s what I did when I started my newest Engie, went into the Mists, messed around with various builds and ended up finding a combination of traits and utilities that just clicked for me.

Then while leveling up, a certain amount of refinement was done to truly make the build (Some refinement is still going on, as evidenced by my thread I started when I was wondering about Sigils)

While I could list off a number of builds that are effective for leveling, Engineer is a class with enough playstyles that it is beneficial to test things out for yourself
