List of my TPvP engi builds
I do not have so much experiance in tPvP as bunker skilled player. In your point of view. Does it make sense to try to play a bunker engineer in tPvP or is a guardian always better?
your post follows my reply to you about the EG, so i’m going to assume you’re asking me
Well, I’m not going to answer…
Simply because I’m not good enough at tpvp to really know.
My guess is that a guardian is always the better bunker, but that doesn’t have to mean the guardian is always the better part for your team.
others will come and give detailed replies based on a lot higher tpvp experience.
Just being polite here and saying I’m not the one to ask.
I have a additional question to Ostrich.
You try different variations of the HGH build in your last stream. Carriot amulet for example. Do you think it is better? Now the buring damage does not tick 3 times with 40% condition duration. Do you think it is time to reduce the precision and go for more survivability? or just for more power?
FYI – I did a bunch of tourneys on that bunker build variation of Ostrichs I posted a few posts ago and was kitten near unkillable – the only enemy that gave me serious trouble was a phantasm mesmer – they put out so much damage I had to focus exclusively on defensive/healing abilities and I don’t think my teammates really knew that setup enough to know to focus on the phantasms instead of the mesmer…
Obviously, I’m not a high ranked player so these were mostly pugs I was facing and therefore you need to take my experience with a grain of salt – but lots of people were giving up and leaving the point alone.
One thing, I swapped out cloaking device for protective shield – I’m also thinking the automated response might be a waste as I almost never get that low on health from conditions – the regeneration and massive amount of healing seems to mitigate condi damage for the most part and I’m much more susceptible to burst or high amounts of sustained direct dmg (like that phant mes). Not sure what a better option might be though…
I have an additional question. I play the HGH build and I really love it. It is still strong. I see Ostricheggs stream from time to time and he is using rifle HGH or Nade/Bomb build from time to time. But how can we handle a pure damage shatter build?
I use the stunbreaker for the first attack and try to apply as many conditions as I can on the Mesmer. Mostly he does not die until his 2nd Shatter combo is ready and I eat 3* ~1500-1900 damage + sword damage with my 17k life.
How do you guys handle Mesmer with this build
@Lupanic I know I ain’t using a HGH build in this video, but it is worth taking a look at the for you:

It’s the general way the Shatter Memser works, and which moves you can use to beat them. One of the key things when fighting them is to dodge the leap + Immobilse followed by shatter/flurred Frenzy combo!
I use the same tactics when I use my own HGH Nade builds against them as well!

Thank you, this video helps a lot, it is amazing.
But if I got it correct the only possibility I have from your video is to dodge the leap. No other way out.
I have no blocks and in tPvP I often fight in team fights because of the HGH nature, hard to stay on the mesmer all the time (sometimes they add to the fight for example). If I fight 1on1 then mostly on a spot and there is no space so I have very limited time to dodge the leap.
Hmmm, I enjoy overcharged shot vs leaping warriors and guardians, should work on a Mesmer clone too? I admit it’s unclear what weapon you’re even using, though.
Yeah you sadly got that Correct, there ain’t mant weakness on a good Shatter Mesmer!
You can use Elixir S, right after the Immobilse to avoid the damage tho, but it really is a game of dodging at the right time. You can actually, blind the Memser, if you are fast enough! When you see the Clone come running, if you blind him, he will still swap place with it, but the attack won’t immobilse you, and you do have tow blind in the HGH nade build, but it’s still a tough one! =/
In special in a tPvP teamfight where the action goes high, or WvW team clash, a Shatter Mesmer that have seen himself mad at you, can be a really dangerous foe!
A shield in off hand can help on the sitution if his hunting you the entire match, if you time the block perfect, which means right before the swap (else it won’t work, Blurred Frenzy will cancel the stun)
I think the best odds for winning such a situation as a HGH Engineer is gaining distance while lobbing nades behind you, many of them lack real condition removal, so random tossing of grenades can score some easy damage hehe!

I use pistol/pistol but even with a rifle if I miss to noticed the leap it is over because blurred frenzy makes the mesmer evading all attacks and change position with the clone is instant

:D
in a normal fight I put all my conditions on him. Break the first stun with Elixir R and dodge twice. Apply once again all conditions on him and watch him die. But from time to time you know…. bam and I am dead
Yeah I totally get that feeling Lupanic! After dueling so many times vs Osicat, I can’t even count how many times I have been captured in that Shatter combo, it’s super dangerous for sure!
And I even got a toolkit Block, Rocket Boots (which actually are quite amazing vs shatter mesmers) and perma Vigor! But trait the leap got like 6 seconds cooldown, and Blurred Frenzy is 8 I think? so It’s a tough nail to avoid all the time =/ But I try keep a bit of distance when fighting them, because that will leave you with more reaction time to dodge, ofc, that’s easier said then done when you try defend a point!
Also, if you manage to dodge the Leap combo, and he start doing blurred Frenzy, that will leave him stading still, so right when Blurred Frenzy is over is a good time to counter attack! =)

UPDATE:
Most of the builds listed are outdated, here are the three main ones I’ve been using recently
HGH Power Rifle
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQFAUlspSXHxShF17IyoCdmoHPGlNZfewWtFEC-TkAg0CnIyRFkLITOSds6MEB
I’ve mainly been using this build on battle for khylo. The ability to stop trebs and use jump shot to get around is just too good to pass up. Its strengths in comparison to condis is that it’s extremely strong for keeping downed people downed and AoEing on point from afar. The major problem with it is that it can be very difficult to 1v1 a lot of the more popular classes like eles and rangers. Aside from that it’s godmode with mobility and ranged damage potential, but again I still prefer condis on almost every other map.
You can swap out might duration runes for ogre runes against mesmers and s/d thieves to alleviate their boon rip potential.
Standard HGH condis
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqalspSXHxShF17ICoC5loHPGlNZfewWpFEC-ToAAzCpICSpjTHTQycs5MWYKC
This is the tried and true HGH build that we all know and love. The main difference from before being that I’ve switched out elixir S for R and lyssa runes for 2 additional might runes.
You can swap out the might runes for undead/nightmare and short fuse for enhance performance if going against serious boon cleave comps.
New bomb/nade build
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIq6ZHxShF1LJy4DdG4DAmoC53nHsVaBhA-ToAAzCpI+S9l7LzXyvsfNWYKC
After the changes to healing turret, roaming bombs became a lot more viable than before. This build is excellent in team fights and excels at doing the job HGH is supposed to do which is roaming DPS. With elixir R on reset it’s very easy to rez people and roam into a losin fight and still win. Bombs can be difficult to use as being on point usually means death, but careful use can make them work. This build is very weak to condis. Elixir R alleviates this a bit, but being forced to blow your thrown R for condi cleanses is never a good situation.
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!
Thank you once again. love your builds and love the music in your stream

A new question. How do you handle boon hate thiefs?
Playing the condition damage build is hard against the boon hate thiefs. I am a 4-kitten after they took my might stacks. They do not care about my thoughness. Get 4k – 5k hits and die in ~4sec.
I just recently used your hgh condi build in wvwvw and i must say this is the best ove tried so far. I love how i can tag a lot using nades and pistol 3. i have to say, hair trigger ia better than speedy kits. I don’t really need permswift when running with zergs. Thanks for sharing this. I love my engi even more because of this.

Ostrichegg, for the power version of hgh what armor and trinkets stats would you recommend for pve? I’d like to try it in dungeons and what not.
I have ran your p/p for 500 hours now and I didn’t think the stats would be the same.

Any advice from anyone about the armor stats really.
Sorry for double post
