Not quick enough for certain attacks.
It’s okay. It’s part of balance. I saw this coming. We just have to increase positioning.
Welp, they just closed the stream due to technical difficulties, and promised to upload the rest of the content asap on youtube.
Also grouch confirmed june 23rd as release-date for this patch.
My guild will sponsorize any engi willingly to get rid the world of perma stealth mofo, message me for more infos.
P.S: Lock On required
And then when the reveal from lock on is about to expire, you can use utility goggles again to get a total of 12s reveal.

Make sure you evade an attack before you use analyze while traited with kinetic charge. Get another 6 sec of reveal once the first analyze runs out.

sry too busy spamming flanking strike~
If you run bombs or genades, Thieves crumble to your AOE spam anyways.
This is just an extra middle finger to them.
It sounds like this will actually make more of a difference against mesmers, where it will mess with their ability to use decoy and other skills like it.
And it will be excellent against any class that tries to safe-stomp from stealth, including fellow engies.

I guess you could dodge it and make a clone that takes the reveal and puts our trait on cooldown.
Oh no. I just checked the trait again it’s for hitting a stealthed target.
I CANT STEALTH MY CLONES THEY AUTOATTACK SWEET JESUS.
Okay calm down kentigem you can just use mass invisibility and hide by a warden………nope they are in melee range……poop.
This trait will counter shadow refuge and veil quite well.
It will be hard for thief to rezz people in a refuge.
At least now all the “stealth OP”-whine should stop. As if the slippery diarrhea wasn’t a good enough reason to dislike fighting engis… Excuse me while I go cry in a corner and kiss my D/P and Shadow refuge goodbye.
Remember all the thieves who tried to defend stealth as a not broken mechanic when there werent any Reveal-skills? They told us to counter them with AOE… well kitten just got real!!
Seriously, I never thought stealth is perfectly fine where it was, but how on earth can ANet think that it’s okay to allow one class to completely shutdown another just by investing 1 trait and 1 utility skill?
I wonder what they can possibly do to Thief and Mesmer to balance that…
thieves are still the class with most access to evades& teleports. They will be fine. When we first got analyze and sic em’, everybody was screaming doomsday in the thieves subforum. history has told us that they can adept just fine to reveal, especially if they trait for revealed training and dps the offender to death.

This is probably what ill make my Engineer for. Just to kitten on stealth Thieves. 3 years of stealth trolling and it all ends here.
Lock-On, Utility Goggles and Kinetic Charge/Gadgeteer.
Now if only i actually had a snow balls chance in hell of even catching a Thief.
that’s going to play every time I zerg^^

As a thief who defended stealth with that same thing I am now rolling my eyes hard at the QQing thieves because I think this trait is totally fair. Quess thieves will have to l2p now, huh?
As for the thieves whining about one trait doing this we also have one trait that counters this sort of and it’s called Revealed Training. So while they may remove us from stealth with Lock on with Revealed Training they are just giving us a little more damage for the duration.
Mesmers & Thiefs abuse Stealth. Stealth stops being fun.
Engies abuse Lock On. Stealth AND Lock On stop being fun.
Stealth stop being used.
Lock on stop being used.
Repeat.
Cycle stablished: abuse→no use→abuse→no use→Ad infinitum.
Fun: lost forever.
Countering an abusive mechanic with another abusive, specific mechanic is simply stupid.
Ehh I’m not too worried. Engis need to choose between hard countering the stealth of two classes and having reliable access to swiftness now. Eventually people will get tired of hard countering one or two possible opponents and life will move on. Especially after every engi tired of getting killed by thieves slots in all the reveal they can then gets mauled by S/D thieves because they wasted a trait and utility.

I am an engineer who learned to abuse stealth long ago. So I guess I get the best on both worlds.
Just spam the larger radius grenade like no tomorrow on blank space and you’ll have some nice dead thieves that’re revealed.

If the thief is brain dead maybe…
Not to mention without easy access to perma swiftness, a thief who wants to disengage from an engineer probably only needs a few seconds of swiftness and Sbow. Only thing that this change really screws over a little too much for my taste is Shadow Refuge, which can no longer be used to safely rez anyone if the opposing team has a lock on engi. There were already quite a few counters to SR rezzing, but one trait that can cancel out a 60 cd second utility seems a bit much.

sb5 has always outrun engis no matter what… speedy kits didnt let engi keep up with it in any way, shape, or form…

Exactly my point…
All these doomsayers claiming Lock On is the greatest thing since sliced bread/ is the death of thieves are overreacting, looking at this in a vacuum and just spreading the QQ that arises whenever anything changes. There are a huge amount of changes incoming, looking at them from the perspective of our current meta really won’t yield much conclusive information and just serve as hype.

This is true, however it is very important to consider somethings.
Thief and mesmer don’t have instant revive skills. The mesmer has illusion of life which gives you the potential to rally, but if you are killed in that form you just die, if buff expires you down again. With thief they have the ability to stealth and prevent a stomp. However this counters that. Thieves have no capabilites towards ressing in team fights with an opposing engie with this trait.
Other important stuff to consider. For everyone who thinks this is a l2p issue for thieves, remember they though stealth was a l2p issue for you.
Obviously this will work itself out. But the issue is not as clear cut as you think. This is a go
od trait, but the potential for overkill exists.
I dunno what’s the big deal, good teefs rely more on evades/blinds/interrupts/ports and positioning than stealth imo.

yeah, cuz you cant (de)cap a point while stealthed
now go into wvw and find good thieves, those soulless kittens abuse shadow arts to high heaven and back
can’t say I ever had a problem with SA thieves in wvw but it seems this buff will appeal to the majority of engineer players.
I found rifle autoattack and close range nade cleave to work out 90% of the time.
Even though I play classes that can leverage stealth, I’m very happy to see some more mechanics in game that counter stealth. Kudos to Engineer dev(s). I hope it works as intended and we see more things like it.
Some mechanics in game don’t have nearly the number of counters as others. Stealth has been one of them.
they only thing that will happen if lock on really becomes meta – every thief will play sd and won’t try to rez anyone anymore….
hf watching every spell being evaded and sitting in downstate while your thief teammate is laughing at you and refuses to rez you~

Didn’t they nerf S/D to make it nearly impossible to permaevade with it like you used to be able to do? I seem to remember that being a big reason why you almost always see d/p thieves and practically nothing else.
Semi-related, now that Autodefense Bomb Dispenser no longer competes with Grenadier (though being in Inventions might still turn some people off from using it) S/D evades might not be a big deal if they start off with a stun; It’s kinda hard to dodge a Net Shot or ‘nade barrage you don’t see coming ’cause the engineer blasted the smoke field ABD dropped for them.

S/D evade was reduced even more.
What this means for the meta is that to save your butts in the event of a stability stomp you will need a necro to go into shroud and use skill 4. Stealth is no longer a dependable way to prevent stomps if this becomes a prevalent trait. This will HEAVILY effect the meta.
Now. I need people to put on their thinking caps in the name of balance. This trait has the potential to lock a person out of stealth forever. We all calculated that you can get 18 seconds of reveal, and the trait itself has 20 seconds cooldown. It would not be that hard to perma keep someone visible. Stealth is one of their class mechanics. Yes other classes can stealth, but other classes don’t have it built in so that every weapon set has a stealth attack in it. This means that even if they are not playing a shadow arts build, you are depriving them of part of their class mechanic.
Empathy time. Would you like it if chill was changed so that it affected the cooldown on swapping kits. Would you like it if kits were given a equip cooldown like attunements. So you can only requip a kit 9 seconds after you put it down. I doubt anyone would like any of those things. Use your head look through the thief trait lines and look at how much requires the use of stealth.
Lock on will do is shut down stealth trolling. Couldn’t catch a thief before the speedy kits nerf, no chance now.
So you’d have to rely on the thief being an idiot, or nearby allies, to actually kill the thief.
Also, incomming evade spam builds.
This will force casual cheesy thiefs to start using thier brain, and to theorycraft some new builds
I’m glad there’ll be more counterplay to Stealth. Especially when PU will have twice the stealth now as well! Also will be funny to use on Rangers who picked camouflage, unless they removed that trait.

Tell me how it doesn’t shut down all stealth in 1v1. Should they add a 9 second cooldown to swapping kits? Don’t commend any unbalanced change regardless of class.
Then don’t challenge us to tell you how it doesn’t shut down stealth in 1v1 , kenti

Fine toxo I’ll let them be excited with their buff no matter how nonsensical it is. After all I don’t play thief.
