Hey everyone. When I first started playing Engineer, I realized all too easily how squishy I was. I wanted to jump into WvW, but I didn’t survive long at all if I was closer than 5 feet, so I decided to form a build that wouldn’t require me to be close, but also had benefits in the process.

Interestingly enough, I was able to make one that has worked decently well. Its not the best, but it is good to keep you away from foes and apply what damage is needed to be a threat.

Setup:
Rifle
Med Kit
Grenade Kit
Flamethrower Kit
Elixir Gun
Mortar

Traits:
Explosives 30- V VIII XI
Firearms 20- IV VIII
Inventions 20- VI IX

The Rifle, Grenades, and Elixir Gun all get range boosts as well as the mortar, and the Flamethrower gets a good setup for those situations where people get too close and you need to try to survive. Switching through the different kits at the right time can decide life or death most of the time. Overall this setup has kept me alive pretty well, and has normally done enough damage to cause ranged enemies trouble and cause melee enemies to feel pressure.

The invis when immobilized helps a lot too, because then you can have a higher chance of escape. The extra range on the mortar is really really useful against arrow carts, especially if you can angle your camera right.

The whole idea of having burn on crit is so that if they do close a gap, you have a damage bonus with the FT. It can be switched out for bleed instead, or whatever you prefer, but I’ve seen things work generally fine with the damage bonus to help kill those who get close.

As for med kit, its really up to the player. I use med kit for the swiftness and fury, as well as the condition cure.

Figured I’d let some people know about it, especially any lower level people having a hard time in WvW. This build helps a lot for keeping distance and thus keeping you alive.
