New to the Engineer, and I liked the idea behind Pistol/Shield. Didn’t know if there was already an established build for this set designed for sPvP or WvW.

Also, what kind of gear set should I be focusing on for it? Power/Crit, or Condition Tank (again, newbie to Engi).

First step is to not think of engi like the other classes, meaning you don’t define your build by your weapon choices (in most cases). Most of the time the build for engi is related to their utility choices, IE. Kits, elixirs, gadgets. The weapon set you choose is largely really only a matter of what additional things you want in the build, p/s is good for the extra blast finisher, block, reflect, blind etc etc, and rifle is better for control and burst damage.

As far as gear choice goes, it mostly depends on what you want to do in WvW and your level of experience. Probably the most universal set would be celestial, it will allow you to do most different types of play you will experience in WvW I.E zerging, solo roaming etc etc, however certain gear sets do work better for specific scenarios and it just takes time to figure it all out.

Check out Wolf’s website, but also don’t be afraid to experiment, that is the nature of the engineer and you will be better off learning on your own what works and what doesn’t. Welcome aboard and happy Engineering!!!

Generally you use Pistol/Shield in a condi build that has multiple forms of burning because burning is by far our strongest condition! Bomb Kit is the usual choice because it’s the best condition kit that has innate burning! Grenade/Bomb imo is the strongest setup for this!

Or you can run Vee Wee’s preferred rune/sigil setup which is taking Adventurer Runes with Sigil of Energy so you can have Hair Trigger, Protection Injection, and Backpack Regenerator!

You can also run a purely Bomb Kit damage focused build!

For WvW, you can try Ostrich Egg’s WvW build as it uses Pistol/Shield! If you watch some of his WvW gameplay, he straight up poops on the WvW baddies! Vee Wee is pretty sure this is his build or close to it!

Hey everyone!

I threw this together and played around with it (while also looking at some of the suggested builds above). What do you guys think about it?

Basically put, it is a Carrion build (Power, Vit, Con) that uses both condition AND physical damage with the Pistol. With Target the Maimed, I get +5% damage against bleeding foes, and with Flame Legion runes, I get +7% damage against burning foes, with a combined total of 12% when both are applied!

I traited in Napalm Specialist to keep my burn uptime going on Incendiary Powder to 9 second (so almost constantly ticking since it runs on a 10s CD), and used Sigil of Intelligence to force a crit on weapon swap (which has a 9s CD itself).

I opted for Grenades > Bombs, since I can target where the grenades go (personal preference), and the Bleed from Shrapnel Grenades tick for a long time.

Goggles are used as a low CD Stun Breaker, and to add 10% Vulnerability to my target on top of my Bleed/Burn modifiers (and the extra Crit % wouldn’t hurt between weapon swaps)

While I haven’t been able to try out AED in game yet, it looks like the healing skill to go with to work alongside the high HP pool this build has w/ Carrion. And since I am using a lot of Gadgets, I naturally traited in the reduced CD on all of them (more rocket jumps FTW!)

AED may look interesting on paper, but it is honestly our worst heal still.
Seeing as how you lack any condi-cleanse you pretty much need to take healing turret to at least give you some.

I would try to focus more on a specific role.
If it’s damage, I prefer rifle for it’s burst and ability to lock people down for a grenade burst (also you basically need grenadier as has been said if you want to go that route).

If it’s more defensive/hybrid, bomb kit and/or EG are a good route, but you’d be better served by the alchemy or inventions line.
