Looking for grenade-less sPvP spec
Power or Condition?
I haven’t queued for PvP in a while, but I generally run something similar to Korishi’s build for WvW roaming/small-scale.
in game options, theres a drop down menu for ground targeting with 3 choices on the first page. the one thats alone. select fast with range indicator instead of normal. turn off melee attack assist too if thats on (the last check box in that section).
next, bind 6-0 (and f1, conditionally) to your mouse. if you dont have enough buttons put as many as you can.
if youre able to do all of this, turn on free camera (right above ground target dropdown). not strictly necessary, but can be useful. takes some getting used to.
often times new players miss these options since theyre in the options menu instead of the hero panel, but theyll drastically improve your experience with nades. if youve done most/all of this already and still dont like nades… yeah try another build.
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions
THIS is the build I’ve played with for a long time. It’s still useful for SPVP, but less than its variant with Grenades.
The best engineer i know uses this:

Here is a 4v5 victory in SoloQ with this build
The build has incredible sustain and if you’re careful it will take 2-3 people to burst you down at once. I’ve survived 3v1s on a point with this set up.
The nice thing is that you have a variety of tools to handle whatever comes your way. If you run into a bunker who just swallows condis and farts condi clears, you work with your device kit and rifle to smack them around with power based damage. If you run into a tank who has near infinite toughness, but doesnt seem to pack too many condi clears, you can keep them at range with the elixer gun and kite them around with the bombs.
Harassing a ranged enemy is easy with the elixer gun and rifle, It really depends on whether you want to scare them with conditions (use elixer gun) or straight damage and cc from range (rifle). In a Melee setting, the bombs are excellent, they heal you and the healing keeps you alive vs zerker warriors and other melee class builds.

Thanks for the help. I’ve played MMOs before so I was familiar with the key bindings and the free camera but not the range indicator. That really helped
Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
Many EU Engineers like to run Bomb Triple Kit! It uses Bomb Kit as the primary source of damage with Pistol/Shield, Tool Kit, and Elixir Gun with the standard Engi trait setup! 30/10/0/20/10 or 30/0/0/30/10 with Balthazar Runes, Doom/Geomancy Sigils!
Wahoo! Bye frands!

You do realize your asking specifically about a grenade build on a thread with “grenade-less” in the title right?
You should probably look through the existing threads on the topic of grenades, or create a new thread.
