Well I have been playing Engineer for some time now, recently switched over to a power/crit dmg build using rifle from my previous condi/crit heavy dual pistols build, I’m liking it for its straight out raw dmg, allowing me to finish off my opponent faster than just stacking on conditions and waiting for them to bleed out, ect.

I am wondering if anyone has had any luck with successful wvw ect. builds that use a rifle stacking on power/prec/crit dmg, while still trying to maintain a sense of survivability.

Ive been bouncing between a few different builds, but haven’t settled down on one, since most rifle builds use nades/bombs and I tend to stay away from those “build staples”.

I will mostly be in WvW with this build, what I like mostly about rifle is its raw power and cc abilities, I would like to capitalize on this, so while im either in the zerg or roaming, I’m by far an ez targets to take out, or a laughable source of dmg as to be ignored when being attacked by me.

So any real help would be very appreciated, as well as, maybe any statistical tiers to meet, as in hp/armor crit chance/dmg attk ect.

Thanks in advance!

If you want to use the Rifle in WvW, trait for Static Discharge in Tools and use skills with relatively low toolbelt cooldowns that can be freely used every time they come up (i.e., Surprise Shot with the Rifle Turret).

You can wear either offensive or defensive armor sets with it.

I’ve been running this static discharge build for a few months now, and I really enjoy it:

I run mostly Knight’s gear and berserker’s jewels (not all of it—I have a few pieces with vit in there for a little more balance). I get some extra vitality out of using the alchemy tree. I always eat Truffle Steak and Master Maintenance Oil (it’s expensive, but worth it in terms of the DPS you get out of these). Additionally, the sigil of fire may seem like an odd choice, but try it—it’s really powerful with a high-power/crit SD build.

Runes of the Pack because I really like the extra power and precision (and the extra swiftness duration is nice for maintaining perma-swiftness in WvW), and because I can’t afford Runes of Divinity.

Just to add—I talked a lot about DPS in that last post, but it’s really a pretty durable build. You’re not going to be a tank, but you can take a lot of punishment. Plus you have elixir S, gear shield, overcharged shot, net, magnet—lots of fun stuff to help keep you alive.

Close to the standard static discharge build. I would look at taking Invigorating Speed because it synergizes with enduring damage. Also taking rifle mod instead of hair trigger makes bursts hit harder.
Also vulnerability stacking is very effective with power/crit builds. Making goggles toolbelt very helpful, even more so with static discharge.
People have been having great success using the sitting duck trait with net turret for vulnerability stacking as well. (rifle net shot + turret toolbelt + turret normal fire + analyze = 25 Vuln stacks). But steel-packed powder is kind of the king of vuln stacking, but forces you into grenades.

As Jerkstore said it doesn’t have to be glass cannon. I’ve run a power/crit build with mostly soldiers gear, and a few zerker pieces thrown in, to great effectiveness.

When I was running SD a few months ago I was using the more standard setup, but to each their own.

Squishy and your only condition removal is Med Kit #4. But it’s more of a roamer/small group setup. It’s been a while, but if I remember correctly I usually closed the gap with: Net Shot, Analyze, Throw Wrench, Surprise Shot. Then go into the standard Rifle 5,3,4 rotation. After you’ve blown through both bursts you have to play it by ear.

Ripping people off walls with TK is also fun.
