Commander – Jam Death [Jd]
Fissure of Woe
Hey all,
Most people will know me by my main (Freya Hatreidis, kick kitten ranger), but I also rolled me an engineer some time ago and decided to pick that one up this week..
And although I’m still completely in love with my ranger, I have to admit that an engineer is also a superb profession: no matter what situation, they have all the necessary tools to get themselves (and their party) out alive..
I’m planning on gearing him with some Thoughness armor (I want him “tankier” than the ranger) so he can support his party in the (almost) frontline. However, I’m still a bit puzzled about the other stats I’d put on it..
Power/Precision/Thoughness engi’s, that’s something done? Or would I be committing sacrilege by doing so?
Any engi feedback, mutual loving, cookies, … is appreciated!
Just a loving thread, something else than all those hate threads we see lately..
Lol hi, and welcome to engi-hood.
I have been using power/precision/toughness on my engi and it works pretty well. She can do some decent off-damage while doing some off-tanking and even some off-support, depending on the skills that I choose. Together with some of the many ways we can get health regeneration, she almost never dies (except when being zerg-rolled in WvW.)
Good hunting!
A safe bet would be PVT armor. It is tanky and you can hit quite ok. After a while you can mix some other types of armor to mach your play style., but as a “I don’t really know what I want to do with my engineer” starting kit PVT it is perfect.

It depends on what kind of engineer you want to be playing. I feel like condition engineer can output some really nasty damage while still being strong defensively due to tool kit blocks/toughness and cripples.
So, a good gear combo I’ve found for mixing damage and survivability is Knights Armor with a mix of Berserker and Valkyrie Trinkets, depending on the crit chance you want. Soldier Armor works too if you run full Berserker Trinkets, you get less toughness and precision that way but more power and vitality. I feel that if you go full defense (no crit damage stats, low power or low precision), you just can’t put out enough damage with Engineer’s relatively weak weapons.
If you want to do conditions, I’d recommend full rabid, which is a great mix of offense and defense. You have the luxury of both being able to take hits well and melt players and creatures down with DOTs in seconds.
For even more tankiness, try either a set of Earth Runes, Forge Runes, or Melandru Runes. Melandru with help you against conditions, and Earth or Forge with proc Protection on you. For extra fun, take protection injection, Stabilized Armor, and either Protective Shield or Armor Mods, for constant damage reduction and/or Aegis.
Hey im just coming here to spit some hate , stay from the Engineer profession your kind isnt welcome here! , and stay away from my turrets ya here?!
