Conservative estimate: 80% of the time when I use Magnet now, it simply drops the enemy player right where they’re standing. If I already have a skill Q’d up to use on them after, I waste the CD. Why has this gotten so much worse lately? It’s always been an unreliable skill, but now I pretty much always EXPECT that the pull will fail. Half the time I don’t even know what to do on the very, VERY rare occasion that it actually pulls my target to me. This CD has become little more than a minor annoyance rather than a setup for burst.

What gives???

Back before the core specs patch, my magnets would fail ~40% of the time when used out of combat. Now, it’s closer to 90%. I simply can’t use magnet+prybar+x as an opening burst anymore, because it does not work. Its gotten pretty ridiculous.

Yeah. I am trying to re-work all my builds right now to not use TK any more. Gear Shield is nice but I can’t rely on TK in general any more to do anything it’s supposed to.

Just fought an Ele several times, of 8 attempted pull / prybars, only 2 pulls actually pulled her to me, and only 1 of those actually landed prybar (the second was out of range even though it animated dropping her right at my feet). So kittening done with this…

Same thing – its fail in many cases, so i stoped using it.

P.s. And another problem – i never saw it before the patch – when i pull mesmer to me – it interrupt me by confusion every time – some mesmer trait, or to much www-mesmers novadays?

So, I have tried and tried to adapt my builds to use something other than TK in that slot. I hate it. Nothing feels right, nothing can make up for the utility that TK used to have.

Maybe I should just quit until HoT and then shelf my 3-year Engi main in favor of Rev? I can hardly stand to play rifle Engi any more for all the Jump Shot placement problems too. Teleports in general in this game have been such a huge problem, and the port patch made it so much worse.

Terrain and teleports / body repositioning just don’t play nice together. They never have, but it’s gotten so much worse that it’s almost unplayable now. I suspect all the problems with shadowsteps, blinks, pulls, and jumps are connected to the same root problem that is breaking the game for anyone who makes ample use of these types of skills (Engi and Thief are hurting the most I think). ANet please give this some attention! :<

Friendly tip: everytime you use magnet, jump when the casting animations is almost finished, so that the skill activates when you are mid-air. This helps a lot with it not being “obstructed” by the terrain (yes, even if there’s not evident objecct in between you and your target).

It’s really, really sad that we have to jump through these kinds of hoops just to try to bypass something that should have been fixed ages ago. Anyway, I’ll be testing this today to see if it makes Magnet actually pull my target TO me rather than just plopping them down in place.

Thieves have been complaining about getting “No valid path to target” when shadowstepping, even when there’s nothing in the way. I imagine this is a related problem.

Magnet got broken so hard it just astounds me; it has become almost useless in PvP because it is so unreliable. As a warrior main, I think even Bull’s Charge works better than Magnet, and that successfully lands maybe 50% of the time if you get lucky.

because Engineer has never been an attractive class from a dev/bug fixing perspective….

Seriously though I’ve always found magnet failed when there was too large a height difference… if you’re higher or lower than your target it doesn’t seem to work too well (i.e. I could never pull up/down a hill/stairs very easily). If you’re having problems on level ground something has probably broken.

Try jumping right before the pull takes place. It seems to help.

Was in a match the other day fighting an Engi, my magnet pulled him 2 inches, then right after his magnet pulled me the whole way. Was like wtf?

Pulled someone on Skyhammer, it pulled them halfway to the broken glass, but not the whole way. Next time, it pulled, but then their toon got hung up on the 1" tall ledge of ground, went flying up in the air, flailing around a bit, land back on the ground far away from me. Pull a ranger to me, use the jump-in-the-air trick to make it land, he just drops in place anyway. No pull.

PLEASE. FIX. THIS. kittenING. SKILL. ALREADY.

Also, someone told me this bug happens when the target is moving away from you. Not true. I tried to pull a necro who had afk’d on point… literally the guy was afk, not moving, not casting, nothing. And yes. My pull FAILED.

This was honestly one of the main reasons I started playing Ele over my engineer, especially with the move away from cele making openers and cc that much more important for my engi, hate it when bugs make a class feel bad

I’m glad it’s not just me. Will try out the jumping trick, but mostly it seems to be related to tiny bumps in terrain causing obstruction.

I was actually wondering why doesn’t magnet work most of the time MONTHS AGO when I first tried out condi TK engi.

Same with thief teleport “no valid path” my kitten … It’s on flat terrain are you serious ANet? Not to mention the thief utility skill that is supposed to PULL THEM TO YOU but instead nudges them basically right where they’re standing.

Let’s not forget THROW BOLAS with it’s plethora of OBSTRUCTED OBSTRUCTED OBSTRUCTED OBSTRUCTED fails. I swear that patch made everything worse.

This bug has been around for quite some time. I think we’re already way past the time limit of ASAP. More like just the S now……..Soon.
