80 ~Warrior~ Delvoire | 80 ~Ele~ Azalea Avenir
80 ~ Guardian~ Rag Nor | Server ~ FA
So I just dinged 80 on my Engineer. I want to use this toon as my MF hound.
I’m currently using P/P and I’m pretty sure I did 25/30/0/15/10 for my build.. I felt like this would be a decent build for PvE and my style.
I purchased a nice Ascended Amulet to give myself a 10%MF boost as well as a 20%infusion.
My question is, what’s the next best case to maximize my MF? I’ll want to continue to grow my DPS as well I’m guessing.
According to the new blog post, MF gear will soon be phased out so do not spend any more resources on it.
I currently have full exotic MF gear with runes, full ascended MF accessories, rings, amulet with 20% MF also that will soon become obsolete.
Thanks for ruining my farm gear. Removing a base stat from the game is hugh. No different from removing all zerker gear from the game.
Wait… what!?! They are removing Magic Find? Or they are just removing the MF% boost gear?
Quote from blog – https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/ :
We want to remove the choice players are currently being forced to make on their gear: “Do I go with better stats, or better loot?” This isn’t in the spirit of cooperation that Guild Wars 2 is all about. As such, we’ll be removing magic find entirely as an item stat and turning it into account stat that improved the odds of rare drops for all your characters.
You can improve your account magic find through the account achievement reward system and from consumable items found in game. As your magic find increases, it will require more consumables to keep raising it higher. In the near future, we’ll detail the system we’ll use to replace the existing magic find items. Our goal will be to have as little disruption as possible to those who currently own items with a magic find stat on them.
So its just gear stat. MF will still remain but only obtainable through account achieves & consumables.
Yeah.. just read the blog.
Interesting. Well that solves my problem of building a MF toon haha. That blog was very interesting. So many changes. Love this game.
The last 2 sentences makes me very curious as to what they will do for current MF gear. I got a full set in exotic gear, weapons, & trinkets of MF.
Im hoping they just swap it out with another stat, providing a new stat combo for more options.

It’s not the same like removing Zerk imo, because that stat ( & pretty much every other stat that isn’t MF) actually contributes to the party… & they are going to give you accountwide MF which could be better… Imagine full Zerk/Knights/ w/e stats you like AND 200 MF… Now that is awesome!
Account wide MF sounds wonderful, I’m just worried about how much we are going to have access to. I have a full set of exotics and ascended MF gear to farm with. If I only get a fraction of that MF % as an account wide bonus then I will be disappointed.
Just changing the stats on my MF gear to another stat is a useless solution to me and others. We already have a second set with other stats that we use to run dungeons and do other content. Why would I need a second, non-MF set?
And I won’t get into a debate about the usefulness of MF. MF has it’s uses outside of parties you have to realize. I have my MF set specifically for farming. I have a complete set of zerkers/soldiers mix I use for dungeons and other content. There is nothing ‘selfish’ about that. Doesn’t hurt anyone in any way except the inconvience of me having to swap the set!
Your personal MF stat really doesn’t matter. What matters is your MF relative to everyone else in the game. The more people that have MF → The more drops people get → The less every drop is worth.

That can’t be accurate….
I thought MF changed your percentage on a drop table basically. The higher percentage you have, the greater chance on the drop table. It shouldn’t effect other players though.

But how many drops other players get affects the price on the market. You have to see everything at the same time for it to make any sense.
Lets say everyone got twice as many drops of Charged Lodestones. It’s very unlikely said Charged Lodestones would maintain their value of around 3g as the number of people desiring them hasn’t increased, but there are twice as many on the market. Therefore there would be very little net gain if you were selling these mats, even though you would be getting twice as many.
Look at Dust. While no-one was getting it the value was 60s. They changed the game so you could salvage ectos for it. So there is more on the market the value goes down to 10s.
So if you lost your equipment MF, but everyone got a Passive MF, even if the Passive was identical to what you had on your equipment, the value of your farm would go down as everyone would be getting more mats, not just those with MF gear.
It’s similar to CoF farm. CoF farm is bad for the game, as large amounts of gold are coming into the system, but the number of materials isn’t going up in the same ratio, so all T6s get much more expensive to the point only people that farm CoF can really afford the number you need of them for certain things.
If you are looking for something in the meantime, OP, you can get the rare armor from the Crucible of Eternity vendor. Yes, the rare armor, not the exotic armor. CoE armor has one stat combination that includes magic find. However, the MF bonus on all (I’m pretty sure it’s all) the armor pieces is the same between the rare and exotic sets.
As such, a few runs (probably like 3, assuming max token gain) of CoE will get you a full MF armor set. It will only be rare and still weaker than the exotic version, but the point of MF gear is the MF, so that shouldn’t matter anyways since the MF on either set is the same.
This will require a relatively minor investment, and you can recycle the pieces when the MF update comes out for ectos, so nothing technically goes to waste. Plus, you get loot from running CoE.
