Most op profession.

might as well leave the list empty then because a “discussion” about who is OP is pretty worthless without the bickering.
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions

The whole question is in fact rather pointless, it´s the results i´d like to see

I feel the need to put reasons because saying a class is “OP” doesn’t give enough detail.s OP can mean a thousand things.
1. Mesmer – So much utility/escapes combined with great DPS.
2. Thief – Way to much burst damage with that one build combined with the amount of stealth they receive and dodging.
3. Guardian – great survability and support combined with great DPS. One of the few classes that feels like a non holy trinity class. It is not OP, but actually should be used as an example of how other classes should feel.
4. Ranger- Though boring, they can do amazing DPS. Their entangle elite needs some…work also.
5. Warrior- amazing Burst dps, although it can be easily countered. They can only do DPs however, hence why it is #5
6. Elementalist- My only problem with ele is their amazing escapes. If they want to run, they can run. I dont feel this is overpowered, but rather how other squishy classes should be modeled after. Not too much DPs, but just the right amount combined with great escapes to get out of sticky situations.
7. Necros- Every time i fight one, i dont feel them. Minons are easy to counter and the DoTs can be easily removed
8. Engineers- who would’ve thought engineers would be put as least OP in the engineer subforum. I’ve played with all the classes, and it isn’t so much that this class is OP or UP, but rather there is no variety. Their DPS specs are good, however they are easy to counter. So one DPS spec, nades, sticks out the most. Turrets need more viablity in the field. Their long CDs and non mobile state make them undesriable. Engineers can be amazing support, but have litttle to no dps. They can be amazing bunker, but again have little to no dps.
I’m not trying to troll your thread, but it’s pretty easy to browse forum topics and see which professions most people view as “OP.” If you actually DO want to see people bicker some more, that’s cool, but just be up front about it.

I just wanted to go lazy about it and maybe even gather some of those guys who just ignore those kinda threads

Go to any other class sub-forum and you’ll see each of them b**ch about another class being OP and how theirs is broken.

I actually kind of agree with this list.
Though Necro/Engi is a pretty gray area on which is more powerful than the other I think.
And the tiers would be pretty close together (Except Mesmer and guardian, which are such powerful classes that I believe they stand above the rest)
1. Thief
2. Mesmer
3. Guardian
4. Warrior
5. Elementalist
6. Engineer
7. Necromancer
8. Ranger
I don’t think anything is particularly OP, but to me, what I consider to be “strong” is based on, overall, what a class brings to the table, in damage, defense, support, and control. You notice the switch in popularity in PvP that many move away from Thief and Warrior for this reason past pub-stomping fun. So for me, it’s:
1) Mesmer, Guardian (in no order)
2) Engineer, Necro, Elementalist (in no order)
3) Thief
4) Warrior, Ranger
My reasoning is because Mesmers and Guardians have accesss to everything… not just damage, but stability, stealth, heals, confusion, invulnerability, etc. plus probably the best overall elites in the game.
Thieves, Warriors, and Rangers are basically just damage machines, and Thieves just happen to do it easiest with some more escapes. But none of them can compete on the level of conditions, condition removal, support, heals, bunkering, CC that Necros, Engineers, and Elementalists bring.
Newer players tend to not see this because they often focus on stacking damage alone in PvP, and none of those 3 classes have an easy build to pack on instant damage, so people think they are weak, when in reality, they are the most strong and balanced classes in the game IMO.
This point of view is strictly from a PvP standpoint, I can’t vouce for PvE since I don’t play much aside from casual questing.
And this is not to say a good Warrior can’t beat a good Guardian or Mesmer, I merely mention this from a “what does your profession bring to the table” point of view.
In almost any game the class that can stealth will most widely be accepted as the “OP” class. It doesn’t really have to do with the class skills it is more just the simple fact that when you are invisible it is easier to quickly plan out your actions because for a few seconds you are basically safe. Whereas ppl who are visible have to act and plan quicker because they are also being planned against.
It was the same in WoW, Rogues were always complained about. Even in FPS like PS2 or Killzone, “infiltrators are cheap because they just sit in stealth and headshot you when you stop for a second”
I don’t think there are any OP professions in GW2. (in WvW Thiefs are OP because of the rendering issue)
I do think that the majority of ppl (in WvW anyways) think that Engineers are an easy target. I have ran around solo quite a bit and not once has someone seen me and then ran away. As soon as they reconize you are an Engineer they try to get a kill, they hardly ever do, but they try.
[snip]
1) Mesmer, Guardian (in no order)
2) Engineer, Necro, Elementalist (in no order)
3) Thief
4) Warrior, Ranger[snip]
I agree with this post, for the most part. I’d separate guardians and mesmers by a tier like so:
1) Guardian
2) Mesmer
3) Engineer, Necro, Elementalist (in no order)
4) Thief
5) Warrior, Ranger (no order)
The reason being is that mesmers (although they do have a great many offensive options) are pretty easy to kill as long as you can spot the real one quickly (which comes naturally with experience) and you are very tank oriented or very burst oriented. Once you get past the illusions, mesmers have pretty kitteny defensive options. Guardians, on the other hand can have insane defense. Although honestly, engi, necro, and ele bunkers can actually kill stuff. Guardians can’t so don’t know If I’d call guards overpowered.
Most of the claims that engineers suck come from people that run glass cannon/heavy dps specs that tend to ignore the awesome defensive, control, and support options that engineers offer. Glass cannons tend to suck in high level tPvP, glass canons are pretty bad in high end pve (think level 15+ fotm), and glass cannons die a lot in WvW (unless you’re out-zerging the enemy really hard). So naturally, a lot of players come and post that because their glass cannon build died, engineers need a rework (the same is true of the ele, necro forums as well).
Disregarding the fact that this topic doesn’t belong in the engy sub-forum (general…)…
I have both an 80 necro and an 80 engy (as well as mesmer + ranger) I can easily say that necro pet builds are garbage in terms of pvp. Don’t discount necros so easily. Their ability to cover an enemy team (or zerg) in conditions (not just dps conditions either) also paired with their ability to do it nonstop makes them dangerous. Sure you can cleanse a few, even all of them, but they will get reapplied without the necro missing a beat.
As for engys their options for long range solid dps are pretty limited. That doesn’t mean they’re an easy kill especially in a toe to toe fight. Both the necro and especially the engy are deep classes and require a fair amount of skill to play well. Just check out some of the youtube videos.
I don’t think any particular class mechanic needs a rework. A buff or adjustment on the other hand for some classes is needed though. The devs have done a mostly solid job of not going on hamfisted nerf sprees (Though thieves may disagree).
Some classes are easier and some are harder but the amount of player skill is too large a variable to solidly declare 1 class better or above the rest. You can easily find a youtube video of any class being played to it’s very best.

6. Elementalist
7. Necromancer
8. Ranger
IMO :>
1.Engi(Flat damage (power/crit), Condition damage, heal/power, heal/party condition removal/tanky, etc are all working and more than viable builds. Engi probably has the most versatility and working builds than any other class and that’S without turrets and weapon stats/sigils and with some runes not working with kits)
-Ele(for similar reasons(fun and versatility/viability))
2.Necro (Has the best hybrid builds in the game, heal/power/crit build is probably even better than the engis in damage, but a bit less reliable and doesnt scale of healing power and it’s twice as harder to die as a necro than as an engi)
3.Guardian(Some of the best utility/non-healing support (their party healing is kind of weak or on a big timer(books)), okay damage, not so versatile).
-Mesmer(Has some of the best boon builds in the game while still able to dish out damage, has a really high skill cap to maximize damage but is left with either condition-shatter or power/phantasm)
4.Ranger (Has some good build like petmaster power/crit, cond/bleed, etc. It can clear trash like there’s no tomorrow, but not as good for boss fights. Fun to play though)
5.Warrior(100b, bleed, shout/banner build is mostly all you can do and the bleed build is not even good considering there’s a 25 bleed cap which you can hit often by yourself, so you get diminished returns in a 5man group)
8.Thief(boring, boring, boring, boring, you can only go for damage, thieves have absolutely no supportive abilities, are sooo squishy. You can only build for power/prec/crit, and you have to spam pistol/pistol #3 all day, also often slow down the group since they’re often on the floor. Dont tell me you can do Dagger/Dagger until you’ve actually been in fractals past lvl 10.)
P.S. this is simply my opinion regarding PvE, mostly 5man groups.
sPvP: Guardian>Warrior>Mesmer>Elementalist>Engi>Necro>Thief>Ranger.
P.P.S anybody that has played a mesmer knows exactly which one’s a clone and when they’re stealthed
