My WvW Build is a Very Secret Recipe
I worked on one that worked beautify, but sadly it got caught in the nerf crossfire! and its too much work to find new one but challenge accepted
give us a clue! is it pure DPS or condition build! maybe kits ? ;D
I agree, there’s so much potential for build crafting with engineers. Every single trait and utility choice has the potential to completely change a build.
That doesn’t mean everything is daisies. When people say our best build in tournaments is HGH condi nades, that’s exactly what they mean, and it’s not a subjective opinion. Sometimes patches restrict our working build options instead of open them up. But still people find ways to rise above and make something new and creative.
maybe we should stop posting builds in forums, so we won’t get the nerf bat anymore :|
I have a little more care for the common Engineer than to hold out on a build I think is effective.
Well, maybe your build is effective and maybe it’s not. Maybe you could be even more effective with a build that’s been tested and played by a lot of people, and has been improved by trial and feedback.
We all know they are coming for Static discharge next, once they add that 1-5s Internal cool down, all burst builds will be gone! and engineer will be dead to me :-S! i dislike the playstyle of HGH but that’s about the only thing that will work in the future..
Op, I’m running exactly the same build.

Secret recipe for any good WvW engi build:
Elixir S
Toolkit
Static Shot
thats all you need
There is something oddly satisfying about throwing up 7 to 9 stacks of Confusion on someone in WvW for 10 full seconds. Especially while blocking attacks from a Haste Thief. The phrase “Stop hitting yourself!” comes to mind.

P/P with Med Kit, Elixir S, Flamethrower, Tool Kit and Reaper of Grenth – 0/30/0/20/20 with full carrion gear. This build has been working beautifully in the zergfest that is T1. So many bags! :O
Ponder, why Carrion over Rabid?
Without Incendiary Powder, the crit isn’t really that good.

Whatever fits them. I love P/P, but absolutely hate the Might Stacking + Elixir playstyle. I just tinkered it with a Gadget version of it that uses Med Kit+Speedy Kits, Slick Shoes and Net Turret and left the Tool Kit untouched, trades some features for some other ones. Everything is moveable, everyone will eventually find their count, and eventually what they’re looking to do.
I love the “I have a secret build” posts. There’s no such thing. I guarantee dozens of people across the servers ran every build ever posted before it was ever named by the community. What really makes those builds fun is the videos of the skilled players running them.
Engi has a lot of great builds for WvW.

I like having the power, honestly. Precision would be nice, and I /have/ been toying with the idea of a FT build that relies heavily on precision/crit % + on-crit procs but that is still a work in progress. :S
Plus, I already had a full exotic/ascended carrion set from when I was running Mask’s p/p HGH build, and I’m a broke white boy.

It’s true that everything has been done in some capacity, and yeah what will typically work best will be discovered and labeled cookie cutter. What I think is cool, is that while there might be a cookie cutter “best” spec(s) to run, breaking away from said build won’t necessarily render you useless. Specifically in WvW, IE running HGH p/p ikittenerg is not as effective as kits or gadgets. Other games essentially require you to run whatever is “best” or not even be able to function in casual settings, while in GW2 I can run a build that I find more fun and not be completely useless.
Disclaimer: For obvious reasons, this train of thought does not apply to sPvP. You’ll either want something cookie cutter, or something that fits your group’s comp more than anything else.
Power gives u much much much more directly damage then precision. That’s why.
Okay. So I made this post for multiple reasons, but mainly to encourage people to be brave and try something new, and play something they really think they will enjoy. Is Supply Crate better than Elixir X? Probably, but I guarantee you a Supply Crate dropped once every 15 minutes will never compare to an Elixir X every two.
My point? Play what you really want to play. Become your own expert. Here is what you have the ability to do as an Engineer: Rather than trying to adapt your play-style to whatever the “best” build is, adjust your build PRECISELY to how you play (in WvW). I think it is really common for people to play these set builds and completely forget about a utility skill because they don’t really like it, but everyone says it’s the most effective.
For a moment just forget about what people say is best or fail, and just start piecing together weapons, kits, and abilities you love. Then, trait to make what you love about those things better.
In the end, it doesn’t really matter if its never been done before. What matters is that it is yours, and nobody can do it better than you.
May your fuses burn strong.
ps: I completely agree that posting a build can help improve other people and you, but only do this if you are A.) Really unsure about something and B.) Already know that yes, it does work. People might tell you its terrible, but they are not the experts like you.
Welswift, I agree with you 100% play what you like and build around it. The thing is tho, I haven’t been able do build outside of FT and nades and still be as useful in every aspect of the game and that pains me because I hate grenades like the plague.
Precisely! This game fosters more of the play what you like, not what is cookie cutter, as I mentioned. Excluding, of course, sPvP.
… and you will never know. hehe! No seriously, I am sure you can find one too, that is made JUST for you. I’m not talking about HGH Conditions. Mine is something totally unique, and it works beautifully. Perfect. I feel so awesome when I play it. All you upset forum posters, go try to make your own build. Who knows, you might strike gold! But if you do, don’t tell anyone. After all, 100 ’nades was there the whole time, just nobody used it until the few told the many. Find your own new build!
75% of the Engineers that I see beasting up in WvW, when I ask what their build is, say “its my own.” Some keep it secret, but when some others tell me, it is unlike anything I have ever seen before. And it works! Decide what you want to do in WvW, do a little research, and hand-craft your own build.
May your gloves stay charred, fellow Geniuses!
In WvW many things work that don’t work in tourneys, stats aren’t limited to ammys and runes and the only goal is to kill the hell outa people.
I just wanted to point out though that there were many incremental changes that made hundred nades actually a viable build. For one, grenade barrage used to be bugged on both to not be effected by the grenadier trait. Also, the tool kit was changed to have a 3 second block and 1200 range magnet. AAAAAAAANd finally, sigils added an incredible number of deeps. If you tried running hundred nades back in november then you would have called it a kittenty build.
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!

The truth of the matter is simple: dodge > class balance. It’s not any more complicated than that. This is not to say that enges are in a good place relative to other classes, but dodge makes a bunch of less-than-optimal features more viable, is all…
No it’s not, you either choose to run HGH conditions or be almost useless.

QFE. People don’t realize how restrictive tournaments are. And of course the changes to toolkit, grenadier, and sigils are a huge part of why 100nades was possible.
I’ve been enjoying WvW recently because you can make creative stuff work there.
WvW also gives you plenty of encounters with people that have no idea how to duel someone and even people without full attribute layouts. It gives you plenty of those 1v4 and 1v5 moments, while sPvP can give you only 1v2 and 1v3 moments comparatively. Effectively it means any inadequacies in the build are more easily covered by skill differences and gear differences.
