My current SD build.
Could you write some lines first?
Is this build PvE only ?
Like most SD builds this has the glaring weakness of providing pretty much no defense at all, severely limiting its usefulness.
Right now HGH builds are better all around and switching a few points here and there or a utility won’t change that.
im running almost the same build and i would suggest putting the 10 points to elixir line insteed of bomb one for the vigor proc on evry speed boon and additionally i would change the last trait you have in firearms for 5 vouln. on immobilize( its called sitting duck i think) . Also it has defensive aspects:
1st is the gearshield in tool kit
2nd is the stunbreaker with googles utility
3rd you have condi removal in med kit (not much but still)
4th when you put 10 in elixirs you will get the vigor procing trait so pretty much 100% vigor uptime and thats something couse you can dodge much more often.
Also the build is meant to be doing fast bursts so defense is not needed that much . Its meant to stack vouln. and then burst down the target with loads of cc and tool belt discharging bolts. Im using the build mostly in WvW and it works perfectly
Ps. there is a vid of a guy using this build on forums but i cant find it anywhere. The guy also plays wvw and he totally pwns evryone
pps. oh and thanks for the idea of sigil of air, wierd but i never thought of it. I was using sigil of battle but this one might be better for the bursts. Cheers

I haven’t used my (fairly similar) SD build in months tbh. From a WvW perspective anyway it just doesn’t offer enough.
It’s all about that big opening burst, but even as a glass cannon it won’t be big enough to outright kill decent players/defensive builds and after you’ve blown your load you really have no recourse but to kite and hope they don’t focus on you.
It’s ok for bursting on other glass cannons, but an HgH confusion stacking build will do that just as well with far less danger to you, and for gibbing lowbies and nubs, but any decent build can do that really.
Snafoo i must agree with you that its a lot more squishy than hgh builds but I really like it couse of the risky aspect and i have a condi mesmer whitch is pretty much defense based so just wanted to have something different. I also think that it can halndle some defensive builds too but its a bit harder. Also it offers vouln staccking so all party members can profit from it ( couse i doubt you will be running alone in wvw a lot its just certain death in the end :P).
PS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kaYsIR0kYg there i found the vid i was talking bout this guy is totally awesome he inspiried me to use such build and im graitful ;d. Also have in mind that the vid was made before last patch so aucually it got a bit buffed with some minor things that make the build overall much better.

The only issue with this video, we only see him kill other glass cannon.
You won’t get high hit like that on any players with decent defence.
I ran this build couple month ago, and I got a full berserker gear with acsended trinket. It would work for support dps and pick up lonely players with low defence.
But this doesn’t work so well again good mesmer, good guardian or good elementalist. Even good necromancer. They can just survive your initial burst, heal up and fight you with your skill on cooldown.
You also don’t have any escape mecanism when roaming. It’s deadly again zerg. Your CC breaker is our worse, because you don’t mitigate any damage, and if you are knocked back you don’t get up.
It’s a really risky build, and I feel that you would need a bit more defense mecanism to survive focus fire or zerging.
Still a wonderful burst thought. :P

@Kardiamond I must agree it has its problems to kill defensive based players but its just that i really like the build and its fun to play for me. Oh and there were some defensive builds in this vid, i think i saw a chaos traited mesmer getting killed.
Also as you said if the player you encounter is good then its trurly hard to kill em but again isnt it same when you are a glass cannon mesmer or thief? I played both thief and mes as glass cannons and at some point its all bout skill that makes you kill the “bunkers”. When i play my mes in condi build (whitch is a defensive one) i rarely ever lose to zerker thiefs and such since i know more or less whats the thief is going to do while a burst engi is kind of unpredictable couse its the least played class and people dont even know what skills engis have. But again i agree its super risky build and thats why its soo much fun
@Tobias
The only issue I have for a straight burst SD build, it’s that you can build a medium burst + awesome substained damage with a HGH condition build. Yet, you have more survivability : You can stack thoughtness/vitality without losing much damage, you vitality from traits, you have boon stacking, you have a lot of condition removal, you have safe stomp, you have crazy confusion that act both as offensive and defensive.
I just feel a bit ‘ kitten #8217; when I use a straight on SD burst build. I feel I sacrifice too much for really good burst, while HGH condi sacrifice nothing and still have a good burst and awesome substained damage.
Life is unfair! :P

It is a rather well known build. Go For the Eyes is overrated, prefer the range over it, you’d want to get those 10 points into Alchemy for a perma Vigor ability.
The build itself is definately not made to roam with even if it remains possible to do so (I tend to switch to Rifle when overloaded with packs of Guardians and Elementalists where condition damage is absolutely a no no), and it excels in large battles where you can auto-attack at will, at 1200 range for 2k damage, burst some crowds down, and eventually pull shy people from their zerg to you to launch them to your zerg with an Overcharged Shot.
The combination remains solid however: You have nails, a decent shield on a rather short cooldown and alot of CC, any Thief that failed to engage you (Backstab into your Gear Shield) will be turned to ashes through massive crowd control and damage. You will have alot of problems dealing with stability Warriors (Balanced Stance triggering trait) as your crowd control usually makes up for the lack of mobility you have. D/D Eles will out-trick you but it’s almost normal at that point -rolleyes-.
