Guild Wars 2

My first go at a game video. I’m a gray-haired gamer. Trying out recording for the first time and a new build. Biggest challenge for me is to hit record more often haha. Quite a few great fights I missed. Unfortunately I’m not a very good player. Mediocre at best, so I’ll never have a 4 vs 1 like Mask’s or Amadeus’ videos. So nothing is going to blow you away here. But I think it’s good to have videos of our class from time to time to keep the positive vibe going. Also Im trying to get the hang of recording, editing, rendering, etc for future ideas I have.

I love the engie class. I really do. This was just a small video of fights I had over the course of about a week. There were a lot more fights, but they were either with random people coming in or with uplevels so I figured I’d at least filter those out. Also, in my tier and the way I roam… 90% of my fights are with thieves. But making a video just on thief kills didn’t seem interesting. I tried to keep it diverse as I could. I just don’t really have a lot of footage that DOESN’T involve fighting a thief unfortunately.

The build I was trying out was Sir Koroshi’s build. I was a P/P build for the longest time so going to grenades again is still a bit of struggle for me in terms of landing them. Trying to get better at fast ground targetting with them. You might notice I switched stuff around quite a bit. Elixir Gun here, Thumper there, Radiation field(Asura racial), pistol/shield, dual pistols. Just experimenting with various things. Pretty much all rabid gear with Runes of the Undead.

Ha, I was kind of hoping to see myself in that video (on EBay), but oh well XD

Nice to see some roaming in EBG as well, most roaming videos feature the borderlands exclusively.

Hopefully this doesn’t sound critical and negative, but I didn’t feel you were making the best use of the elixir gun in the video, mainly due to two things:

1. I’m not sure I saw super elixir used at all. Even if you don’t stay in the field, it can be good for an extra condition cure and a small immediate heal. It can be worthwhile saving it until you need to escape, but you probably have better tools than that. You won’t be very mobile with this build anyways, so it’s not as likely it will save you from an escape to begin with. It can naturally work well with a build that utilizes things like turrets since it makes your control over a localized area even stronger.

2. I also don’t think I saw you use healing mist (elixir toolbelt) at all. It has a fairly nice duration regen buff, so it can be handy to use it once you’ve taken some damage (i.e. when you’re at ~75-80% HP) to give you more sustain. There’s no point in leaving it until you’re low since it’s not a burst heal and has no water field. It will overlap with the regen from your turret, but healing mist doesn’t require you to pop your heal skill cooldown or confine you to an area. This skill is also instant cast and can be used while stunned/disabled, so you can use it in the middle of your attacks or in a reactionary fashion. I’m not sure I recall you using regenerating mist either (healing turret toolbelt), but that one functions a bit different in that it can be a useful burst heal source, and may be worth saving for later. Healing mist is something you should probably pop fairly early in the fight unless you’re concerned about boon removal/stripping. I was a bit surprised you didn’t use it during that ranger fight following that warrior that ran away in snow leopard form.

One last thing, be careful of using static shot as an opener on an opponent if you can’t capitalize on the blind and confusion. For instance, that one necro was running away from you, and you opened with static shot on him. By the time he turned and started fighting, the blind and confusion had expired, and the ability couldn’t be used to counter any of his attacks since it was on cooldown (although he died easily anyways). It can be a great opener in some situations, but not all. I only point this out because I am actively trying to remove this bad habit from my own gameplay as well.

In any case, it was a good showcase of a non-HGH, multi-kit build (even though it uses grenades XD). Also like seeing the racial skills used, some of them are probably a bit underrated.

@yamsandjam Thanks for the tips mate! I’ll definitely try to put those tips in use. The problem with me experimenting and rotating the #8 skill was I ended up not establishing any habits with it. Other than the habit of forgetting about it haha. Also, I feel embarassed about saying this, but until recently I’ve really never used the Elixir Gun. So still figuring out the best times to use it. The #2 ability is another EG skill I don’t use enough when chasing people down.

I really love having the Elixir Gun in that slot, but I’m really starting to consider Exilir S there because the hardest part for of being outnumbered is getting a stomp in. I really hate the rally system in WvW, but that’s another topic.

And as far as us running into each other. I wish we could. I always enjoy coming across other engineers in WvW. I just rarely see them in my style of play(solo or 2-3 man roaming). Most enemy engineers I see in bigger groups or in standoffs flinging grenades. I did see a guild group from Ebay last week that had 3 Engies in it! It was awesome! I was at a fight club in EBay BL just a couple of nights ago and it was loaded with people. But there was only 3 engineers there. Me, another from AR, and one from EBay who didn’t duel much.

As far as my choice of grenades. I’m really not a fan of them. And I know ANet is going to nerf them in the future. Our server is never going to even be threat to yours so me and a couple of friends just make up our own game. We’ll pick a tower and camp and try to hold it until we logoff. Recently that’s been Ogrewatch and Pangloss and the Ogre camp in Eternal. But in those “mini-games” we create, grenades are just to useful to pass up. Especially in tower defense. If I drop one person, it can be like dominos of death when they try to res them in grenade range.

Greeting from a fellow eng. Interesting vid you have there. I rather like the GS guardian fight. I’m one of the few engs who tend to solo roam (usually going from point A to B or running supply, catching up to the zerg, etc.). I have yet to try p/s on my eng and tend to use rifle/FT (hybrid bunker/zerg build). I try to avoid thieves and mesmers as they are the ones who generally drop me if engaged (though I ran into a havoc of 3 hammer guardians and a hammer warrior one time – not pleasant).
An interesting duel ensued on the east side of SM earlier. I was headed N to catch up to the cmmdr and was intercepted by a p/s eng. It was a close fight but he managed to get me with conds in the end. I had another duel at Lake tower recently with another p/s eng. That one ended in a draw.
In zerg fights, I tend to last a long time as long as I don’t get CCed while Elixir C is on CD. Wading into an enemy zerg with FT is a great deal of fun I’ve found. Dropping Supply Crate then popping FT # 3, 2, and 5 is nearly as good a hammer guardian if timed just right.
