Got mine to 80 almost 2 weeks ago now. Tried to like it, i really have but it’s so sub par compared to other classes both in PVP and PVE.

So I have now rolled myself a warrior, such a better class and powerful at everything =)

I’ll probably go back to my engineer when they get the love they need but it’s hanging up the old monocle for now =(

Well, duh! If you were looking for a powerful class you dont roll a class that focuses on CC, support and mid range damage.

So what is a class that’s powerful?

I came to engineer because Guardian was a tank class (hold points, too defensive oriented, good support and control, but poor damage), and now I’m finding out engineer is another tanky class. Wasted my time leveling a class-type I was trying to avoid at all costs.

I play mostly PvE, could you suggest a powerful class there?
I love Mesmer in PvP but I don’t want to deal with clones and random effects in PvE.
What’s the most damage oriented, and least buggy, class for PvE?

Or tips to make engineer more powerful when solo in PvE (Lv 65+ areas).
I’ve tweaked so much with my skills, my traits, … everything… but it’s still very difficult. No problem staying alive, but a problem killing stuff.

Guess I could use grenades/grenadier but they’re so loud and flashy they make me tired after playing 5 minutes.

Make a race oriented build

Well, unfortunately I went Norn, I can’t stand human and sylvari females.

Delete and go Charr engineer maybe?

Charr engineer is good for abusing pistols for AoE with Hidden pistol’s tool belt skill and poison dart volley

Asura engineer can abuse confusion with bomb kit

And trust me when I say this, Bomb kits confusion outdamages my grenades, Now add that with technobabbles confusion.

Sylvari have immobilizes to bring to the table and theirs a trait to get extra damage off that

The other races? It’s up to you really

You said to use racial skills, did you mean it’s necessary for solo Pve as engineer? You’re saying I should really roll another race, since norn has no good toolbelt skills, if I want to be effective in solo pve as engineer?

its not necessary to run a build with racial tool belt skills at all, It’s just different and adds more variety to the class

lorazcyk.8927

Oh. I’m not worried about variety, engineer has plenty of that. I just want to be powerful; I started struggling around Bloodtide Coast, wasn’t strong enough to kill anything https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Engineer-need-help-with-Bloodtide-Coast/first#post32869

So I want a profession that’s strong/powerful enough to solo stuff in the more difficult areas.

I don’t want to run grenades for the rest of my gw2 life.

It means you’re doing it wrong. Engineers are not about POWERFUL RAW DAMAGE, they’re a lot better going with condition damage. What if I told you it’s possible to put 10 stacks of bleed and vulnerability to your enemy along with poison and burn in mere 3~5 seconds?

Sure, a warrior takes a huge chunk of the enemy’s HP bar per hit. With an engineer, you can see you enemy’s HP bar drop fast like running water in a faucet.

I agree with you that grenade is very useful in the low level areas, but they become harder to use in higher level areas.

I go with condition damage already. Tons and tons of conditions, I love it >:D Actually I think the Power line is pretty boring.

But even the conditions + condition damage is not doing the job once I’m all alone playing in Bloodtide coast.

I know I must be doing something wrong, but WHAT? I’ve spend days and days tweaking things, trying to change how I play, …

Well ok, flamethrower with full crit/condition traits does pretty well, specially if you add quickness or fury.

I want more options ;D

I don’t get posts like this. Engineer is easily the most powerful profession in PvE if played correctly, and very powerful in sPvP. At level 80 I can take many, many mobs and stay up while watching all their bars go steadily down.

The other so-called “powerful” classes like Warrior only seem that because a monkey could play them. Put on signets and slam on the 1-5 keys. Anyone can do that.

A gear treadmill in Guild Wars, seriously?

I would say make sure you have semi up to date armor and weapons and really think about the ways you struggle in pve. Then with that in mind trait to beef up your weaknesses and benefit your strengths. Engineer has so much CC and can do really gewd aoe damage I have a hard time believing its not viable in the later levels. I would go Dual pistols for more aoe dmg or pistol/shield for some great control, make pistols pierce get precision get all the chance to crit condition stuff and then trait to be more survivable after that. Supply crate for an elite and med kit for its heal then area heal combo when you destroy it. id do flamethower elixir gun and something like rocket boots. Crazy amounts of aoe dmg burn down a number of mobs, and make sure to grab speedy kits so you never get touched

I was also dissapointed in engi, till i tried rifle/nades/bombs build. This stuf is sick! I saw Big Ol’ Bomb blowing pesky thief to bits ( crit over 8000), or winning team fights by rainig nades and obliterating every poor kitten that was in range, also doing VERY respectable dmg by rifle alone. I’m sold, love it!

well in wvw im doing 3k crits on auto attack with rifle with a 55% crit chance (75% when buffed) and with sigil of rage (doubles attack speed when it procs) people drop without being able to move.

still i think thats achieveable on any other class though lol.

This is my original thread (posted before we had profession forums, but I asked a mod to move it here)
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Engineer-need-help-with-Bloodtide-Coast/
That was posted on Sep 8, and I’d already been tweaking things before I decided to ask for help.
Please don’t think I’m trying to bash engineer, it probably sounds like I am, but I’m just really frustrated. I really like the profession but I’ve lost the will to play. Again, In WvW I do pretty well. So I have no doubt Engineer can be effective.

The problem is not just AOE, but single target too (like a lone boss).

  • Remember, I’m playing when the map is pretty empty, so I fight alone.
  • I’ve made sure to purchase good armor and weapons from trading post, however I don’t think this is something players are expected to do, these things were very expensive and the average player woudln’t be able to keep up with the cost.
  • I’ve farmed fine materials and hired a leatherworker to make me very good armor.
  • A guildie is leveling huntsman so he gives me the spare weapons.
  • Originally I was playing Pistol/Pistol, my traits were in Explosives and Firearms, my gear was precision, condition damage, and accessories were whatever I found at karma vendors.
  • The build I posted on that thread, I admit, now that I think about it, it’s really lame
  • I hadn’t noticed before that shield skills we’re two-step skills, once I found out I bought a shield right away. Since then I always use it with pistol. It’s amazing.

Now?

  • I use rifle with full condition specs (the conditions that trigger on critical hits)
  • Along with flamethrower, the number 1 skill hits in 10 pulses, each pulse being a chance to trigger the condition on critical
  • I bring quickness or medkit + utility goggles for the fury, battering ram to keep enemies away (when flamethrower #3 is on cooldown)
  • Shield and I are now best friends, but rarely have a chance to use it since rifle wins over pistol.
  • I know bombs probably will do very well too, but I can never get the timing right (combos, explosions, and so on)
  • Grenades, pretty obvious they’re very strong, specially with all the explosion traits, and grenadier, but I’m only Lv 67 and I don’t want to play grenades for the rest of my gw2 life; plus, the explosions are so loud and the animation is so large, it makes me feel very tired.

Any tips are welcome as always

Personaly i would love if Elixir Gun + Pistol main attack , apply 2 bleeds instead of 1 and cap it to 4 max bleeds ( or atleast implant it to the pistol main attack-or twink/nerf the dps numbers ).
Less time reaplying the 4-5 bleeds , and more time kit-dancing maximizing my perfomance (dps-utility)

You want to try a warrior. They’re very polished, not buggy at all, do a tonne of damage.
Just use rifle if you’re not keen on melee.

The main problem with engineer is the litany of bugs. I was very disappointed to see almost no real changes to the class with tonight’s patch.
