So earlier while playing WvW, me and a group of around 10 ran into an engi… who proceeded to kill half of us before the rest just decide to retreat to a tower. About 20 minutes later 7 people finally killed it… with the help of the ogres in EB.
I’m just trying to figure how that happened… bulky enough to not die from the attacks of around 10 players, yet strong enough to burst down a person in an instant… I know I saw the bomb kit being used, and elixir S to help with stomping… Other than that I’m baffled. I just want to know how the heck that happened, and I guess just as importantly, how do I get my engi to do that?
I know this could come off as whiny, but honestly, I’m just confused by what happened.
All of you were full-fledged level 80s? Did he pop Rampage or Tornado while fighting? He had food / utility buffs and/or Guard stacks?
Chances are he was using a HGH Elixir + Bomb kit build with something like Soldier gear and you got nuked by high-might bombs. How did he manage to kill ~5 people when 10 were hitting him is a mistery unless your 10 weren’t fully decked or missplayed. Were you all melee? He could have been just running around dropping bombs and letting you run into them.
im engineer – not pro – but know that celestial build with 3 kits (bombs-tk-eg) alchemy-inventions-firearms – is nice bursts of damage-conditions in pvp – and a lot of healing here and there
but its 1 vs 3-4 players at the most… not 1 vs 10

After sleeping on it, I’m willing to say l that it was probably a mix of a really good engi, and not the greatest players. I also may have overestimated the number of people we had on him at one time (we were not a highly organized group). Peutrifectus’ idea sounds about right, especially the smoke fields since I know a few of us were melee. Thanks for the responses anyway.

A very good engi, with the right build, against 10 very noob opponents, can kill 5 out of 10 without die, yes !
This is why a part of us are still playing the class in pvp, because …. this … just can happen, but with a chance as low as to become rich from lottery, but still, there is a chance. This is about skillcap and such. Well, elem also, but for others reasons, also.

This sounds like the encounter I had last night. Running bomb kit, EG, and RB. I spiked 2 players by chance when the elixir s trait kicked in at 25% health, I do not run the actual elixir. I do run full celestial gear.
