I like….never PvP. But I want to.

And I thought a bursty SD/rifle build might be fun. Not very helpful in the survive-and-cap area, but I gotta learn the maps and what better way than by slaughtering people on my way?

So, can I get some feedback on this build please?

My thinking is that I can burst and control an enemy with immob, crip, and blindness.

I run WvW with a statid discharge build atm and here is what i think:

  • invigorating speed >> protection injection, you’ll have perma vigor and since you’ll be basically a glasscannon avoiding hits >> taking 33% lower damage
  • rifle mod is a must have. 10% more damage? yes please. I don’t feel the need of sitting duck though..i’d also swap go for the eyes for rifled barrels, but that’s more my playstile (and more WvW oriented than sPvP i think)

Skills:

  • I use healing turret instead of med kits, but this isn’t a game changer
  • Rocket boots are a gorgeous utility but a rather poor discharge imo. The animation of the rocket kick almost CCs you..i’d go for the ram or the rifle turret instead.

Runes:

  • i’d go for air, but this is highly questionable:P

The SD build is a lot of fun i have been playing it for a long time now. Let me give you some tips that may help.

Your Traits are distributed well 0/30/0/10/30 but i would suggest some changes

Firearms
-Sitting duck is ok (i use Rifled barrels) but it is atill a good trait
-Drop go for the eyes for sure, swap in Rifle Mob 10% dmg is gewd!
-For the grand master trait go for Modified ammo it in 1v1 it is kind of meh… but in group play its one of your best traits. With this my rifle crits for 2.5K+ on its #1 (on targets with a lot of conditions that is lol)

Alchemy
-Go for Invigorating Speed (with speedy kits this is a must)

Tools
-Keep SD duh lol
-20 point slot is for speedy kits (good job =P)
-30 point slot go for one of the grand master traits i use Adrenal Implant for more dodging… but Armor mods is pretty cool too.

And your skills…
Rifle Turret (must have)
Tool Kit (must have imo, throw wrench + a lot of blocking)

In sPvP i use Net Turret for added control and 1v1 situations
In WvW i use Bomb Kit (there is a nice burst combo you can set up with bomb kit, tool kit and rifle)
Rocket Boots are super fun but honestly i just feel like they are not the best choice with this build, the toolbelt has a nice burn but SD targeting is a little off and if your setup for power crit why would you need a burn. The jump is nice for getting some distance but that’s why i use net turret.

Ok, I picked up Invigorating Speed. That makes sense.

I dropped Go For The Eyes for Rifle Mod. I was thinking that with 50% crit chance I’d have a 1 in 4 shot of inflicting blind and increasing survivability. But with Adrenal Implant now instead of Power Wrench (and IS), I’ll have plenty of dodges available.

However, I’m having a hard time dropping Hair Trigger for Modified Ammo. A 20% recharge reduction means I get a net shot every 8s, which with Sitting Duck means cripple & vuln x5 too. Sacrifice Hair Trigger for 10s net shots gives me +6% damage after net shot from Mod Ammo.

I haven’t done this in PvP, but I’m guessing that the swift kill is what I’m after here. So Mod Ammo = more damage vs. Hair Trigger for quicker net shots and mobility. I figured that I’d be usingNet Shot, Jump Shot & Blunderbuss to open, SD rotation, then more rifle till dead. Rifle CDs less important than damage?

Took 3x Rune of Air, 3x Rune of Mesmer
Dropped Sigil of Energy now that I changed up traits and took Fire.

If I go Mod Ammo, I’m going to keep Rocket Boots for the escape. Also, since I’ll probably be unloading my SD rotation at close range, the RB toolbelt will hit hard, drop a rolling burn, and add 2% rifle damage from Mod Ammo trait. Otherwise, I’ll grab Rifle Turret.

This actually makes sense, I don’t use sitting duck so i didn’t really think about that. For your setup more net shots is a good thing.

This also makes Net Turret even more appealing, you could potently keep someone imob/crippled for 10 sec or so and stack 15 vuln at the same time… not bad i may try this

Thought about that, but that means that one of my toolbelt skills/SD attacks is on a 34.5s cooldown. Taking Net Turret seems like a very pivotal move, essentially changing the basis of the build from high burst damage to control+damage.

I don’t know enough about PvP yet to know how this would affect various encounters. Would the reduction in SD burst and gain of 2 more immobs (w/ Sitting Duck) be better or worse for 1v1, 1v3, groupVgroup, prolonged fights, capping, etc.

Well in WvW burst is better because you can get away with more. In sPvP and tPvP it’s been my experience that the one coming out on top of 1vX situations is the one with more control.

You also have to consider your defense, if you rely on gear to protect you then your damage will suffer but if you rely on control you can build fairly glass cannon and get away with it.

For you it’s going to come down to what you feel works best, try it booth ways and see how it feels
