New to Eng! (and GW2) - PVE guidance sought
Hi there.
im my signature is a link to my channel regarding various builds. For pve mainly as its what i enjoy. But there are some others.
i try to add more than just build info.
please give it a look and feel free to message me and ask anything you want.
thanks,
Zipp Tinker
Thanks for the reply. However, I’m a little lost in some of your videos – they’e useful but think of me as a real newbie…
Could you advise about the use of Berserking gear in a ’Nades build?
The complexity of naming of gear sets and sigils confuses me to an extent! But I’m learning…
Berserker gear is based around the most direct damage you can achieve.
as a newbie i would move away from that until you get better at the game.
the reason being that you will die very quickly to most things.
engineer nades has a large advantage of throwing multiple grenades this means that a low crit chance still has good results.
the other point of nades is a condition based. This means you can put lots of little damaging buffs on an enemy and even while you are moving to a better position you will be doing damage.
enigneer is very complex as a class. And i agree when i started named sets were hard to understand.
just separate them and you will be fine. Use the guild wars 2 wiki to help with sets.
my advice is try and work towards a celestial set as engineer is great in it. This means you have a small number of all stats. It means you will be effective in most situations but if you want to change your build you can explore for yourself.
engineer has lots of options when it comes to builds and you can make any set work. The issue is it will be hard to do so. Start with only getting rare gear and playing with stats.
the best combination for nades are rabid with rampagers. This gives you a condition based spec, concentrating on stacking bleeding and other damage that way.
or try beserkers and knights. Start with more knights gear and gradually replace it with berserkers and you survive longer. This will allow you to do direct damage, but it is based mainly around bombs and using a rifle.
i hope that helps. Without explaining everything which would be a huge post, that should be enough to get you started
berserker gear is the best choice for damage.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vcAQFAUlcTp6q1XxELseNiMqQnJ6xjRZT2nHvVbBhA-zACBYfAkIAZmFRjtOMaVOBp0Js6aYKXER1AA-e is your standard hgh build. from there you can tailor it to your playstyle. for example maybe you want more boon duration runes instead of might so you can have more fury and swiftness. maybe you want to focus more on damage instead of might stacking so you can use full strength runes.
Thanks for the replies so far.
So, I kinda got myself in a slight pickle. By accidentally nuking two pieces of my (Berserker) gear. I took the opportunity to craft a set of Rabid gear and got a few Rampager/Rabid items too (including two pistols, as I like the way pistols play).
And then I ran into the world and threw some grenades and liked it. But felt unsure of my direction.
Elixir drinking/tossing is all well and good, and I kinda like it,. But I am intrigued of other ways of play. I doubt (or have no real view to) jumping into terribly hard Dungeons or such yet (I don’t want to be mocked and kicked… ).
As such I am happy to wander around and try things out. I think Condition play seems kinda fun.
Other than Grenades could I try Cond with Flamethrower/Elixir Gun? How would that look? What kind of things would I go for?
I can always stick/return to Grenades. But could I play with Grenades AND the thrower or Elixir Gun as my back-up?
Some kit switching is ok. But I don’t wanna be getting tangled fingers from constantly doing it. Fun is important in my play – but I don’t wanna play something that’s crazy stupid bad, or terribly complex all the time.
I’m aware there’s a big Update in April and everything could change. But what would people advise now?
Sorry For the wall of text and rambling questions, it’s just my way!
conditions are not good for pve since it does less damage overall and caps so you might do even less damage than you’re capable of. you’ll be entirely useless in open world events where conditions are capped on the boss in the first 10 seconds and stay capped for the remainder of the fight.
flamethrower is a power kit in pve. i personally feel like FT should either be your main kit or not on your bar at all. the reasoning is ft requires a lot of trait points (at least 20 into firearms and 20 into alchemy, and every pve build should run modified ammo so it’s really a 50 point investment). that doesn’t leave room for something like grenades. you could just trait for grenades and just have FT on your bar but the bomb kit does literally everything the FT can do and more and your bombs are traited. it seems like a waste of a utility slot.
i personally run full zerk with grenade kit and elixir gun and it’s great. i’d recommend that. but definitely experiment on how you want to play the class.
Time to farm me back the mats for Berserker gear then… gulp
just do 2 dungeon runs and buy a piece off the tp… farming mats eww
head here to discuss wvw without fear of infractions
Do Citadel of Flame (p1 + p2) and Crucible of eternity (p1 + p2 + p3) daily for berserker gear. Arah gives berserker gear as well, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that place as a newbie.
