That thread is not a good place for new Engineers. It’s rarely used, and most of the builds posted to it are experimental.
The meta for PvE is 30/30/x. The last 10 points can go wherever you want, Tools for max DPS and Speedy Kits is the most popular. Use Grenades, Bombs, or both. Healing Turret for the heal. Practice using it and overcharging immediately, then detonating so you can get blast finisher within a second. Elixir Gun is also very good in this build. Weapon doesn’t really matter just choose the one you like most. I can’t think of a reason to use anything but P/S for PvE, the utility is just so good.
Build diversity is much better in PvP. 30/10/0/20/10 or similar is a pretty popular grenade condition build, and there are many variations on it. For front line zerging some use healing bombs, so something like 10/0/30/20/10 with notable traits being Forceful Explosives, Elixir Infused Bombs, Backpack Regenerator, Invigorating Speed, and Speedy Kits.
Jade Quarry
Hey there!
Here’s a few of my own builds that I use:
WvW Zerg build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vcIQFAUlUUp6qlcxPLseRSMqQnD9ow2XtiUofL/pgcB-z0xAofgsYR0YLjFRjVvgpLXUt6FwDwoVDA-w
Main points:
~Good toughness/HP for zerging
~Multiple healing potential. If needed, you can switch out the tool kit for the Elixir gun
~Bombs are fun!
~Sigil for rifle: Something with healing or Sigil of Momentum would be good to have.
~Food wise: Increasing power, vitality, or toughness are good choices. Eat something with health regeneration and you almost have the same potential as the warrior healing sig
PvE(general, dungeons, and fractals) FT build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcIQFAUlspSXHwSrF17IxIFd+zgUU37K6xjb8kB-jACBoiAUEApPFRjtNoIasqFYKXCyqYJ1bADA-e
Main points:
~Flame thrower
~Fairly good burst damage
~Decent survivability
~Flame thrower
~Ruby orbs, cause they are generally cheap and a good spread of stats. If you want, you can use Rune of the Scholar or Rune of the Eagle.
PvE(general, dungeons, and fractals) Nade condi:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vcAQJAqalUUp6q9ZxELseNiMqQnB6BgZXj4nHvFbBhA-zgCB4MAYNgk3gkIApQFRjtGsIasKZo6aYKXBSHLxAA-e
Main points:
~Trinkets are weird due to a weird combo for an old build…. still works when tested though
~It’s a good hybrid between condi and raw damage which is good for PvE.
~You could probably switch out the sigil of battle for something else. I just haven’t done so yet :P
WvW(Zerg and roaming) condi build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vcIQJAqelUUp6qlcxELseRiESh9ZYgKkXiKgZfe8WsFEC-zgCBINgYNAUEgk3AZSFRjtsuIasaZLqWzATlCwHIYkCYRhRA-e
Main points:
~Power? What’s that? Condis pls.
~ Good survivability.
~ The weird Rabid + Apothecary stats can be switch out for straight up Rabid or some other combo (perhaps carrion since that isn’t available on the ascended level). I just used these cause they were sitting in my bank.
~Confusion stacking…. everywhere.
~You can use either precision food buffs or condi duration buffs.
Some less serious builds (just for fun or not fully fleshed out)-
PvE (general and fractals) long range build! :
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcIQFAUlIqyUntSiF17ISoHJm9tYgKAYfe8WpFEC-jACBIgAUEA5PFRjtgpIasqFYKXCy6YJ1bADA-e
Main points:
~ You and your turrets can safely hit everything from 1500 range!
~ Just watch out for turret bugs!
PvE(general and dungeons) BatCat build:
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQFAUlIqqd37SyF17IxoHcuziGki86XRK0vlB-jQCBojAUEAJQFRjtUqIasqFYKXA6XRWFLpeDYA-e
Main points:
~nananananananananana Bat Cat!
~ Designed to try to use gadgets… like batman!
~ As this build is hardly fleshed out (and tested), I suggest using it only for fun. Perhaps you can make it better?
Anyways, I hope this helps you get off to a start. Engis can take some getting used to initially, but once that ball starts rolling, you’ll find an awesome profession with plenty of options. Just remember to have fun and find something that fits your play style There might be some better builds out there, but these generally work for me
Pretty much all the good and most common WvW builds in here
