I’m currently building a engineer and the first build that i wanted to make was a glass cannon but the thing is i don’t know a thing about them! So which build would best a glass cannon engineer, i know it sometimes varies on the players play style but i’m open to suggestions.

So i simply know two builds called static discharge and grenade build ive seen both deal immense damage.

Here is a thought of what the static discharge build may look like, i hope the utilities along with the traits are right if not please correct me!

For the grenade build i have no clue on how it looks like i would guess it would use the same traits as the static discharge. If it’s not anyone willing to help me and assist me with it but of course only if this build has a higher damage output if not please don’t bother with it.

magnet > prybar > overcharged shot > surprise shot > throw wrench > net shot > grenade barrage > blunderbuss > grenade spam. if everything connects, it’s quite lethal.

You’ve got a perfectly fine glass cannon sd build right there. There can be some variations to the traits and abilities but for the most part that is personal preference so there isn’t anything wrong with that build.

For grenades if you wanna go glass cannon I’m assuming you are looking for power and an hgh grenade build isn’t bad at all.

The sd build will have guaranteed higher burst damage but the hgh grenade build has better condi removal and range, with the added bonus of stealth and stability which gives it more versatility in some situations.

PvE, PvP, WvW? :o

oh it’s for both PvE and WvW but from ya’ll feedback i’d think i could handling the trait changes once i understand the engineer a tad more. Thanks for the great info!

What do you want to do in wvw?

Well since i hardly roam alone in WvW but mainly in a group i’d like to deal fair damage to groups. My guess i’d have to use the grenade build right but of course glass cannon won’t just cut it in WvW i’d just be a rally for the enemy.

For PvE open world discharge builds are pretty good, they make you a solo beast, however in dungeons bombs n’ grenades and the elixier gun are almost a must have. You are able to grant 9-12 stacks permamight aswell 25 stack vulnerability. Best bomb 1 crit I’ve ever had was about 8k <3 and its so spamable aswell hits 5 targets <3 <3

Just DON’T go for a flamethrower, double pistol or turret build in PvE …

Yeah the grenade takes a bit of getting used to with well timed stealth and stability but with tougher armor sets works great in solo roaming. But if you are already planning to run with a group the sd build will work wonders. You will be able to insta down some players. You just have to avoid being targeted which means sticking back a little.
You also seem to know your kitten so you shouldn’t have too hard a time with whatever build you choose.

I never took a liking to the turrets and the flamethrower so that’s not a issue but i will have to test out bombs & grenade for PvE. As of for WvW i think ive gotten everything i needed to know from ya’ll good people ^^, thanks a bunch!

bleh, never go full glass cannon… i hate glass cannon builds with a passion and you are only a free bag or free spike/points… honestly even in pve theyre hardly viable over a hybrid build… but to each their own. play with the class, watch some videos on others playing the type of builds you like and then get into pvp, yes pvp, and try out the builds. instead of spending 100’sof gold tryin to get the perfect gear and etc for your build after youve changed it 10 times.

On your build, its the best utilities to go with to excel with a SD build depending on your spec and honestly your playstyle. Others may run those utilities but some swear by mines, nades, elixir s… etc… play with it and try every utility out.

Make sure you have atleast
→ 1 stun break minimum
→ 30-40% crit chance(fury from med kit or hidden flask)
→ 50% crit dmg minimum
→ 3500 attack minimum
→ ~1600+ toughness(will be far less in pvp, around 1200)
→17.5-19k+ hp

With your build youre honestly going to be able to quick kill other glass cannons/unexpecting ppl. Against any competent player youre down because youre absolute paper wtih only 916 toughness and just over 16.5k hp. On top of having nothing for defense aside from gear block… thats it. Know your fields and use them well. You also simply do not need speedy kits/invigorating speed combo at all. its a wasted traits. change invigorating speed for protection injection for near perma protection. Take adrenal implant/power wrench/SD in tools… and if youre going to run a full GC build with 30 in firearms(you dont need any in firearms to perform just as well) but take sitting duck/10%dmg/Modified ammo to fully maximize your dps output and pair it with either a sigil of battle on your rifle or sigil of force to get extra punch.

Also if youre broke, avoid runes of the scholar and go straight for beryl orbs for power/vit/crit dmg. Or dolyak runes for tough/vit/regen(what i use in pvp). OR if you want more precision run runes of the eagle which also give you extra 5% punch to your target below 50% hp.

Honestly the best thing about engis is the sheer varieties of every type of build we have we can make and make work well. It just depends on your play style. :P Those are my pointers. Take them or leave them but enjoy the class and find what suits you best and happy hunting.

I hope you read the whole thread. This thread is about PvE too where glass cannon is the only right thing to do :P

I’ll take to note what Treborlavok said but i’m smart enough to not use a glass cannon build for pvp or wvw. For PvE that’s a different story even though might have to change up a bit even for fractals.

Alright, topping what trebor said I highly recommend you do not go full glass cannon, or even Static discharge. The reason I dislike static discharge is that, until you are confident enough with the class to know when to time that blind, dodge, block etc you are wasting all your utilities on a burst. I have fought so many SD engineers that net shot me and scroll through f1-4 and I simply use gear shield and ALL their burst is gone. Now they’re just a high damage rifle user with the armor of a puppy.

Remember that you can still achieve an incredibly high sustained dps while ignoring static discharge and taking more reactive/defensive utilities. At the end of the day though I’d try as many builds as possible, and playing static discharge will teach you how to be a better engineer due to it’s inbuilt weaknesses.

I basically run what ellesee posted when I’m not running an over the top condi nade bomb build. Despite some of the info in this thread, the build he/she posted is really strong, if you get off one of the combos you can 100-0 someone in seconds literally, and if you replace rifle turret with slick shoes, you can keep them chain cc’d to death. However, unless you don’t mind dieing a good bit while your learning how to survive without Armor then go with what others have posted. If you are on the otherhand like me and like HUGE numbers and seeing someones health drop from 100-20% in one grenade barrage, take the build she posted up.

I run with a couple of buddies and when going against bigger groups say 3 v 5-8 I can just demolish some of their players if they fail to focus me which can completely turn a fight around , on the otherhand if I do get focused it gets nasty fast, just have to rely on allies to pull off me. For example yesterday I literally downed 4 people at once while they were rezzing an ally by using Greande barrage/slick shoes/jump shot/supply crate and spamming a nade rotation. Nothing quite so satisfying as that :P
