Hey guys,
I’ve basically mastered guardian and would like to try engineer now Freshly leveled to 80, I’m going to play him mainly in PvE ( open world + dungeons + fractals ) and would like to gear him up. What’s atm the best build ( traits, runes, skill and items )? Since I don’t really need to farm a pvp build and there’s a sticky I won’t be bothering you with that I guess.

Regards

Honestly, there is no such thing as a “best build” with the engineer, not even close to be honest. The question has more to do with what you want to do. Do you want heavy ranged condition damage? heavy damage at ranged with direct damage? Melee condition damage? Melee direct damage? Tanky and heal a lot? Want to be a CC beast? DO you wish to be supporty with decent damage and alot of self/AoE buffs?

You have to toss us just a little bit of direction and I am sure we can give you several ideas as very good starting points.

Hi,
Thanks for reply. Well, since my guard is nearly always fighting in melee range, I’d like something ranged. I like both weapon sets as far as animations and weapons look. I think heavy condition dmg might be fun ( guardian condition build well.. doesn’t exist so I’d like to try one ) however I’m quite surprised that there is no “best build” since warrior in pve is mainly gs + axe/mace and ranger 1-hand sword. I’d like to deal as much dps possible with maybe a lil bit of self-sustain and/or mobility to get away if things go wrong.

Another question – how do you guys run around maps? For example farming nodes or champion train in frostgorge? I really can’t see and mobility besides elixir ( with long cd ) and rocket boots ( a bit shorter but still not enough… ). Even my guardian can have perms swiftness with gs jumps in between cooldowns but engi?

Thanks again!

VI trait in the tools line, speedy kits. Every time you swap to a kit, you get 5s of swiftness. Rocket boots adds a lot of mobility as well.

I run condition builds myself, but I am not in a situation at the moment that will allow me to pull up and link some builds. I am sure some others can accommodate you soon enough though.

Grenade Kit and Bomb are the best PvE builds of the Engineer; Grenade offers the highest overall damage and best support, Bomb the highest direct damage. However expect for the one utility slot and 30 respectively 25 points in Explosives nothing else is required so builds can differ quite a lot.

There’s properly nothing better than a Grenade Kit Engineer in open PvE.

Thank you guys. I went with a full zerker 30/0/0/30/10 nade build. Monk/Traveler/Water runes. Only problem I have atm is lack of condition removal, those slows hurt.

for condi removal either use cleansing formula 409 in the alchemy tree with some elixirs or slot in healing turret. Rocket boots can also be used as a movement cleanse skill if you run that.

All sound advice so far. Also Elixir Gun Skill 5 cleanses all conditions on impact, unless it’s been changed. The kit has a stunbreak on it’s Toolbelt skill, but you wouldn’t have any extra movement utility in PvE with Grenade Kit and Bomb Kit already on your utility bar. Rocket boots with Speedy Kits is pretty sweet, provided you get no stalling. You’ll eventually get used to kit swapping constantly for perma-swiftness while farming in say Orr or running with zergs in WvW. Rocket boots is suuuper good for chase and escapes, and won’t get you in trouble with targeting like Greatsword and Sword might. The “Promote skill to target” option unchecked keeps the swords from selecting the closest targets when I use them for movement, but sometimes I just like it on for when I get close enough to ambush someone.

EG #5 has never cleared more then one condition on impact, nor does it now. It clears only one on impact

Use Healing Turret, Cleansing Burst and pick the turret up immediately afterwards, then the cooldown of Healing Turret (and thus the removal of 2 conditions) is only 15 seconds; you don’t seem to get the Regeneration from Cleansing Burst, though.
If you’re in need of an emergency heal you can also use Healing Turret F skill and then a blast finisher, e.g. Elixir Gun #4.
