Relatively new player here, never played engineer before. I’ve been around for around two months now, mostly playing mesmer, dabbling with thief, warrior and guardian.
I want to do WvW but not until I get good at player combat, so I’ve been spending time in PvP. And I keep running into engineers that pump out tons of damage yet seem unkillable.
So I want to do it too!
I know nothing about the class but I’m a pretty quick learner. Any suggestions for a good place to start?
Am I better off leveling up in PvE to learn the class, or diving right in with PvP? I normally PvE to get used to a new class but I’m a bit bored of PvE right now.
If wvw is your endgame then pvp is the best place to learn solo and small group combat because wvw combat is nothing at all like any instance of pve. I would personally reccommend jumping into wvw after looking at a few different builds because wvw and pvp combat can differ from roaming to zerging, and wvw has its own things apart from combat that you should take time to learn
Oh I agree and that’s why I want to do PvP. The problem I’ve found is that with a new class I end up just mashing buttons and getting slaughtered even in hotjoin and don’t learn much about the class that way.
Anyhow, can anyone recommend a solid build that will work well for a new player?
this is what i run now. i gave up the vigor trait after the nerf (even though it’s still good) for both protection injection and backpack regen. i took energy sigil to compensate for the vigor loss. i swapped bomb for tool kit because i got tired of immob stacking. tool kit block while immobilized is amazing. swapped offhand shield for pistol because losing bomb kit meant losing a lot of burning which is the strongest condition.
if you like bombs then try this out. it’s an extremely tanky burn heavy teamfighting build though admittedly i’ve had iffy success with it. but i’ve only played it once and it was against a lot of level 60s so yeah
