Non Grenadiers
I avoided using grenades out of stubborn dislike, knowing I was nerfing myself. But my warrior curbstomps anything my engineer could do before the nerf, let alone after.
I never used Grenades. I used Med Kit/Bomb Kit/Tool kit.
Its still ridiculous that they would nerf it. Because that would imply they think Engineer was in a position to be nerfed in a way shape or form. Which is absolutely 110% kittening STUPID.
“durr durr durr 30% chance to cause a small AoE flame burst better reduce damage by 30% durr durr”
I’ve played & geared a thief, warrior, ranger, and fiddled around a little bit in the mists with the ele. I haven’t used grenades for the majority of the time I’ve played my engi simply out of dislike of hitting 1 . Although I fully expected something to happen to kit damage once we got sigils or stats, I really do think Anet should’ve buffed the other kits/options to get people out of the grenade rut instead of the 30% reduction.
Dr Hoppenheimer – Engi / Meowzir – Guard /
Mulcibur Nox – Ele / Mr Directed – Mes
Haven’t used grenadier builds in ages. Total garbage in spvp/tpvp, always have been. There we have bunker builds which are prevelant even at the highest levels of tpvp. Also we have a very good range of static discharge roaming builds.
In wvw, meh, grenadiers had their moment PvWalling, but honestly, it was PvWalling. If you want a fun build for wvw, look into this:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/The-TANKCAT-build-Prybar-some-faces/page/3#post1001239
or a might stacking condition build, or a static discharge build.
Cheers.
Yah the TANKCAT build is serious fun. But fun as it is, it IS still a bunker build. Good luck trying to kill people who actually know how to counter you. Or even knowing to watch for Confusion and Retaliation (the main killers of the build). SPvP-wise, bunkers are so prevalent people know to watch out and get ready for them.
But for plain fun, it’s one of the best builds I’ve come across.
Engineer
I have all professions at 80, fully geared, and the Engineer is still my favorite regardless of the changes. The grenade nerf was inevitable, as the kit removes the need for even equipping a weapon on your toon. If they push through with adding weapon stats with the grenades(they mentioned they would, with the sigils finally working I have faith), then the 30% wouldn’t seem so bad.
I have an 80 Warrior, Guardian, Thief, Ele, and Engineer, and a soon to be 80 mesmer.
I was never a fan of grenades, I much prefer rifle/tool kit based power builds. And in Dungeons I bring bombs/Elixir gun with create a spell when swapping to a kit trait to keep melees topped off, bombs do good damage and have utility in blind and blast finishing with big ole bomb for might.
I don’t really care about the grenade nerf at all.
I don’t use grenades anymore because it’s impossible to hit with them reliably, unless you’re hidden in a dark corner and rain them on people during a team fight. Same goes with Bombs, sadly. Even if you run around a point like an headless chicken, it’s not hard to avoid the small-radius-even-if-traited bombs.
Imho the damage nerf was unnecessary: hitting with grenades is too hard, that alone justifies hitting for a lot of damage when you actually hit.
The only time I use grenades is underwater. I play with the toolkit when on land. Well, I can say that I never complained about grenades, they simply seemed to require more effort to gain consistent sustained damage than I was willing to put in.
I only have one other level 80, a Ranger. It’s more defensive than anything (25k HP, 3K Attack, 3K armor, primarily BM specced.)
I didn’t like grenades all that much, but I have to admit they were the easiest thing to use, by far.
Highest damage, longest range and aoe targeting to boot.
Nothing gets simpler and more effective than that.
Grenades just have it all.
They put any other kit to shame basically.
To answer your question OP:
NO I’m not happy they nerfed grenades, even though I don’t like the kit all that much.
I would have much rather seen damage buffs and fixes to other kits like the Flamethrower.
For example: if you want to nerf grenades damage, than give the trait piercing pistols 1500 range as well.
So there are other options for max ranged aoe.
There’s no real option besides grenades actually, now we are left with nothing but bugged skills and unreliable stuff.
I wish I could say we could go pistol, but that’s not really an option, I switched to that out of boredom and got to say, no matter the situation, others are better than us, ALWAYS and do that much MUCH easily.
