If you are playing most PvE and not already got a warrior, i guess it’s about time ^^ They are, after all, the best profession to do speedruns with.

However, regarding engis. I recently got mine to lvl 80 (not yet fully exotic) and took him to WvW. At first i was playing a Bombkit/toolkit build with Pistol/Shield and was simply amazed by the versatility the class offers. The build got a ton of blast finishers as well as fire/water and smoke field and is actually quite hard to learn for someone who only used his “weapon swap”-key for the last 10 months to swap between weapons.

Also, engis offer easy access to perma-swiftness and a lot of cleanses, which – at least for someone who mains mesmer – is simply amazing and feels very fast while playing.

I must admit, i’m currently playing a HGH build that is much easier than playing with multiple kits to get a better feeling for the class before i will be going back to more complicated builds.

/edit: Regarding necros, i fear (haha) i can’t help you as i never played one. However, it’s quite likely that they are going to get nerfed soon so you could possibly be dissapointed if you invest a good amount of gold into leveling and equipping only to find your new class getting nerfed.

Get warrior for PvE. So you can join the Zerker farm.

Get engineer for PvE, if you want to do this!

Engi definitly feels unique as a class. Lots of different good builds. Good in PvP, complicated but rewarding once you get good. Awesome in WvW. I feel I can put out a lot of damage in PvE or have a lot of survival or bring some good control and support. Nothing is more fun than rocket boots + slick shoes n watching zergs fall down over your oil slick. Except maybe the flamethrower to the enemies face…

I have to admit that the Warrior is more straightforward in PvE. I find that because the skill floor is that much lower, though, the skill ceiling is too. The Warrior is made very easy to play for its simplicity, but it is at the same time both defined by and limited by it (very much like the Guardian).

The Engineer is a harder class to grapple with by comparison, which may be a frustrating experience early on. Most kits don’t really shine until well into the upper levels simply by how the class is designed; i.e., the Flamethrower is a suitable utility kit used in support of the Rifle early on, but if you invest points into Firearms and Alchemy, it can be a standalone kit.

I leveled my Engineer first so I really didn’t know any different, so I really went to town on that varied functionality. It felt great that I could fill up my utility bar with a bunch of kits that each worked as constituent elements to one another or choose to wield one and specialize around it. I liked that I could choose not to use any kits at all, and wield gadgets instead with Static Discharge for a completely different experience. Even after over 1000 hours played on my Engineer I’m still constantly tweaking and trying out new combinations in PvP and WvW. I’ve largely settled in PvE around the FT/EG, but if anyone has been following my thread over the months, it has undergone several significant revisions.

Leveling my Warrior from by comparison was very stringent. I kind of just naturally gravitated toward Axe/Axe and Greatsword, and it didn’t really feel like I had to put any thought into wielding them properly. I filled up my bar with signets and face-rolled the game to 80. Obviously my traits and utility skills changed quite a bit, but playing the Warrior at level 2 in Queensdale compared to level 80 in Arah Explorable is not as far apart as I would have liked. Similar to my Guardian, my Warrior just kind of “worked” at level 80 without putting a whole lot of thought into it.

I enjoy the class, and I enjoy its simplicity, but I always prefer a more active style of play. I mained a Bard in FFXI, constantly on the move while everyone stood around and pressed 2-3 buttons. I played an Elementalist in Guild Wars 1, offering a versatile choice of spell combinations between raw Fire power or Water hexes. In every expansion campaign I ran a different build.

I wouldn’t tell you to “go Warrior for DPS” or “go Engineer for support” because they both succeed at both roles efficiently—often at the same time. I hope, rather, that the actual play style of each class may better direct you as to which you would prefer (beyond their obvious aesthetic differences).

I haven’t played a Necromancer past level 10, so I couldn’t tell you there.

Engineer is more a middle field supporter. He has very much offensive conditions plus group heal and group condition remove. Engi is very stabilising for any group especially for tough content.

If you hear “support” that does not mean engineer deals low damage. I played all classes up to level 80 and yes, warrior got by far the most damage. But second place definitly goes to grenade engineer which also hurts hard but additional brings aoe-vulnerability, aoe-chill, aoe-blindness, aoe—- what ever.

Disadvantage could be: engi has a high schoolar curve – but I like this.

Funny thing: Warrior and Necro were also 2 of the 3 classes I did not play with my first 5 char slots – did not know Warrior would the strong when I early created my 5 chars and Necro… don’t know why… I think a friend played it and I wanted to try other classes so we could form a party with different classes.

Other char I did not play was Mesmer… PvE boring as I noticed now.

My main is engineer… don’t know how PvE is compared to Necro and Warrior… but I heard Warrior is best for PvE.

For WvW I like the grenades and my engineer (5 x 3 aoe limit cause each of the 3 grenades can hit 5).

I’ve leveled and played all three classes and I can definitively say that I prefer my Engineer over my warrior or necro for PvE and WvW. Yes the warrior outputs the most damage but it just isn’t fun. You sit there pretty much doing a rotation and while seeing big numbers is mentally satisfying it got too repetitive and I eventually slowed down how much I played my warrior.

The necro is good in both PvE and WvW, the Epidemic skill is an extreme dps boost in dungeons, the mega survivability of a necro is also a plus. I only played condition build using scepter/dagger and staff and it was able to deal fairly strong condition damage but base direct damage was lacking.

However, my engineer can deliver both super strong dps through the unique access to every single condition in the game except torment and fear allowing for extreme condition damage builds to smash through dungeons. Every toolkit/weapon set on engi offers multiple sorts of attacks and abilities for helping your team or mob/player control. I used to play a PTV build on engi with an emphasis on group support, you have access to quite a few healing abilities and survive for a long time – I was the last man standing in dungeons many times. Recently started a condition build with ~1600 condition damage with P/P and it’s very effective at draining health.

So to summarise:
Warrior= High damage, repetitive-somewhat boring
Necro=strong condition damage and survivability, lacking in direct damage.
Engineer= super condition damage and survivability, funnest class to play.
