Open world PvE builds
the only time i use the FT sometimes is in Arah Dungeon. Most of the prefessions are pretty boring. Engineers are the least boring to play. Sometimes when i am bored, i just try other skills and it changes the gameplay……bomb, nades, wrench, elixir, rams, turrets, etc. In the PvE world, its no issue…..in dungeons, it gets a little more interesting as you sometimes have to change your skills to fit the situation.
Though its kinda dangerous to use it, (you tend to aggro pretty much everything), my static discharge variant works really well in events and map exploration. I use rifle, medkit, Toolkit, Elixirgun, and rifle turret. Static discharge, combined with rifle pierce, acid bomb/ Elixir F from EG, and a fire sigil absolutely destroys groups of mobs, and is generally fun to play.
When I don’t feel like respeccing I sometimes use my WvW build as well, which is a bomb/toolkit confusion spam build. It works pretty well, but it isn’t nearly as strong against monsters as it is against players.
I used a FT/EG build in pve last month, but It really feels lackluster now that they’ve fixed double pop.

In PvE, I tend to favor direct damage builds, or ones that focus on precision and critical damage, though on occasion I use a special condition damage build for support. Bomb Kit, Tool kit, and the rifle are the hardest hitting forms of damage the Engi has when it comes to power and crits, so those are my defaults when going out to PvE. I do have a condition build that specializes in vulnerability stacking, with grenades and using full rabid gear, but a lot of times I don’t use it due to having more than one condition user in my party.
I’ve been leveling exclusively in open world and am having a blast with P/P condition/precision. Started off with FT/EG + an elixir and that’s got a lot of survivability but lately I’ve been trying to sub in Tool Kit. It hits so hard. So I’ll open with my pistols 2-5 while closing, swap to TK, beat them with pry bar, swap to FT and knockback #3, FT#2 and wrench throw. If they’re not down by then, I’ll swap to EG and hit em w/ #3 for more conditions and #4 to get space and watch em melt. Obviously, variations occur. If I see em winding up for a big attack after a prybar, I’ll whip out my gearshield and let em swing away and hurt themselves.
