Ok, so I made an Engineer, took her to HotM, and played around with plethora of abilities, kits, elixirs, and F-skills. Holy crow that’s a lot of abilities. Totally understand why they only have 2 weapon options. I had a blast (pun intended) wrecking training golems with a near-endless supply of things that go clank & boom. But I have 2 questions:

1) Are the plethora of weapon kits and F-skills overwhelming or do they become 2nd nature just like the weapon/utility skills of a more “normal” class?

2) It’s sure fun, but is it viable to quest/level and PvP and dungeon? Some kits seem very gimicky and 1-note (like mines…will I even use em?)

Thanks.

If you like them.. they do get used and ull be switching kits/weapon as automatism quick. yust like elementalists elements
If you dont like them.. dont use them, youll still be viable :P and none of the fun is lost

PvP its certainly viable. Takes slightly more skill then other proffesions, but can be devastating. I love my engineer in pvp :P (even though i use P/P and no kits)

PvE .. well, grenadekit is really in right now , mostly because mobs dont evade it thus dealing strong dmg cause all grenades hit. the damage of engineers might not be the highest ever, but apart from dmg, they can perform different roles at the same time.
If you want high singletarget dmg, yust take turrets and try using a rifle.
You want to be support, elixergun and elixer build.
High areadamage for groups of mobs? try grenade and bombkit.
You prefer applying great amounts of condition dmg and making sure your friends (or yourself) hit more or survive better? Take up some pistols, maybe a shield for defending friendly units from projectiles. Trow some elixers in for fun.. everyone likes getting glass trown against their head for boons :P

(Mines are not rlly that well atm.. they kinda lost their uses and mostly replaced with other utilities ;p )

Yust want to say… atm your performance really depends ALOT on your build. Unlike other classes who always have 1 mainrole and even though they can fill in other roles to, they are not as good as their mainrole … Engineers can adjust to every single role and stil be viable. .. everything is their mainrole
Ive seen Engineers tank dmg like rocks using shield, defensive skills and some helpfull turrets. I have seen Engineers apply nice conditions while still being able to dodge more then a rolling rock. I have seen Engineers burst more then a warrior ever could (and a warrior can be evaded.. ranged cant be evaded alot). I have seen Engineers with elixer guns and antiranged shields saving people in wvw who lay on the brick of doom.

Even though i gave quite a big PvE explaination.. i kinda do 90% pvp :P
But cant say alot about that except for that Engineers can be beast

I am not saying they are the best class, far from.. with some bugs we have, gimicky mechanics and not balanced damage between kits, underpowered pistols and rifle. But if i said they were weak or useless …. i would lie.. badly :P

1. Took me a bit but I learn if I am going to use let say rocket boots I have to put them in the same spot so the belt becomes second nature.

2. Well I made it to level 80 and on my final store where you killed the dragon, 3 of the 5 in our group were Eng. we did just fine once we got together and chose appropriated skill that worked well with each other. Cool thing about Eng is you may not be the bext at X, Y or Z but unlike other classes you can Be X, Y and Z.

For example I am rifle/gadget build. where everything is going good I get 98% crit chance (I am not fully spec either as I am still working on my gear). but in the final battle (which is a dungeon) I used turrets for the extra fire power or brought out my elixir gun and went elixir build. Once we engaged the boss if I was going to be engaging him I would change back to my Gadget build. Sure it can be hard to get out of combat to change but it can be done. easiest way is to die(tee hee) Then you add the fact I had a minimum of two AOE finishers. I was leaping jumping, and exploding all the time. mmm good times.
