Hello I really have been liking the Eng since HoT came out. The Scrapper is really fun to play and I love being in the thick of things with my wrench. I mostly play solo or with my wife just doing map completion or events. I do like to run a dungeon or fractal as well but they are not my primary content. Since I have been playing I am getting murdered fairly quickly since before HoT came out I was in zerker gear with nades as what I usually would run. I am looking for help refining my build with the content I am playing in mind.

This is build build I am thinking if running. I have changed my armor to Knights. I know it is not ascended but I am going to work on it. I really like the rune of the scrapper and am going to work on getting 5 more of those. I think that with the Knights armor will really help me survive better. I have my zerker ascended back, ring, and acc slots which I hope will work.

I had a hard time choosing between Healing turret and Medic gyro. I like Slick Shoes for the cc on break bars, and nades for the times I need ranged. I chose Purge gyro since conditions seem to wreck me and I didn’t really have a way of betting rid of them. Mortar Kit is kind of just there I was not sure what else to pick but it does give me another ranged option.

Any help on this would be great I am getting tired of being dead

If I may, while knights does provide slightly higher survivability in WvW or sPvP, the damage in HoT and Maguuma is simply so massive that no amount of toughness you can stack will help you. In my opinion, it’ll be better with slightly higher damage stats, and then go for more defensive traits and utilities. I’ve tried using both knights and zerker ascended as a scrapper, and it seems to be easier to survive in zerker gear simply because you can kill it before it kills you.

Here is a slightly modified build for you, that can help in open world:

The healing turret provides all the condition removal you should need, especially when traited with inventions. You can even swap it with the healing gyro, for a no-cast heal with 1 condition removal.

Slick shoes provides an awesome defiance-breaker, which can also be used to keep hurtful mobs down. It also gives a stun-break.

Grenades are always nice damage.

Instead of purge gyro, I picked Bulwark. It’s got a more versatile use, while also providing a much more useful tool belt skill.

Modified ammunition is among the best damage traits in the game. I’d rather pick that, as you’re going for power damage.

I chose inventions as it’s quite useful for open world. It strengthens your survivability with increased healing and condition removal, while mecha legs gives permanent movement speed. Bunker down is actually kind of useful when you’re in the thick of it.

3 suggestions:

i also suggest swapping purge for bulwark

i recommend reevaluating your scrapper traits — either take x33 or x21. mass momentum has no synergy with adaptive armor compared to the hammer trait. if you do want adaptive armor, expert examination goes nicely with it because you “want” to take hits and the hits you do take are likely to be glancing. for your adept, taking recovery matrix could be better for your play than shocking speed.

finally, get rid of napalm specialist and go with either mod ammo or juggernaut (if you wanna keep mass momentum, juggernaut works well with it and ft is less concentration intensive than grenades… for a dps tradeoff).

I ran Medic Gyro for a while, the long water field and the 3 leap finishers on hammer 3 is pretty awesome… but now I find having the condition removal from the Healing Turret to be more beneficial for doing the DS meta event. Plus the water field the toolbelt AND the turret still let you get some leaps in it’s just a lot clunkier.

I also do use Juggernaut and Mass Momentum and just sit in Flamethrower most of the time, swap to hammer for some burst with 5>3>2. I also do this because I am lazy and don’t want to play grenades for event farming.
