Please Make Engineers Competitive
We hardly have condition removal? last i checked, Elixir C swapped all conditions for boons, and the toss changed 1 condition to a boon. Toss Elixir R removes 1 condition. Cleansing Burst on Healing Turret removes all conditions, and Fumigate on Elixir Gun cures conditions on each of its 5 hits if an ally is in the cone of effect.
In terms of damage, it seems that’s what we have to pay for versatility.
Downed on the other you obviously never played Ele, except for Vapor form, they have no way to evade/cancel stomps, and if they use it to much they kill themselves.
The grenade nerf is only on grenade kit #1, “grenade” mostly to even out for allowing swap sigils and passive sigils.
Also try Battle instead of Bloodlust, its a swap that gives might, which means more power without requiring kills.
Seriously someone crying about Elementalists’ down state abilities? Vapor form is without a doubt the single best downed state ability, especially in wvwvw …
The grapling hook is semi-useful. I’m glad nadespam is no longer a viable and overpowered option that I felt pigeonholed into, but I would like to see some other weapon setups perhaps get a damage boost, sigils aren’t enough to makeup for what has always been lacking in the other kits / weapon sets.
Also, I think the ‘area of continual healing’ on elixir gun is not scaling with +healing, not a good design if correct.

How? “Oh look they vapor formed…” walks over to where Vapor form ended, restarts stomp Besides it adds downed penalty…

Yeah, that’s awesome.
Consider engineer downed abilities. Your #2 is good for interruption one single target. If 2 people are finishing you, you are dead, there is nothing you can do. Additionally, if you are blinded, you don’t even get that 1 interrupt! Or else if the finisher activates stealth or stability, it’s useless. You are dead.
Mist form is an absolute guarantee to keep you alive for a few more seconds, regardless of blind effects on you, stability or stealth on the enemy, or multiple finishers.
Number 3 abilities on both are pretty useless. Engineer’s blast is potentially awesome but you are rarely ever alive long enough to use it.

Spot on. Not to mention Vapor Form in WvW giving most elementalists a godlike kitteniness than makes them feel (and most of the time it’s true) they can rush into the middle of an enemy zerg, do some damage, die, and float on back to their own zerg so they can get rez’d by their zerg (or hop on through their door, to safely rez themselves).
What is more important, being alive with an extra downed penalty, or having to release and run back like everyone else?
If you’ve played the other professions, it becomes so blatantly obvious how bad Engineers are. There isn’t a single thing they can do that another class can’t do better and easier. I seriously wish I never made any alts, and I could still be blindly defending Engineer’s with the rest of the fanboys. But, its too late for me. I already played a warrior until 80.

Ever heard the term: Jack of all trades, master of none?
It fits Engineers to a T. There is nothing in particular we do better than anyone else, but we do everything atleast decently. Flamethrowers, rifle discharges and grenades are fully viable damage options, elixirs, elixir gun and toolkit offer great utility and there’s plenty of great cc and combo fields to be had.
Ok! My ele is already 43, have fun on your “master of none”

In order to be a proper “jack of all trades, but a master of none”, we should be able to do everything (not to exception of course) in any situation. This means that you shouldn’t have to change your trait points to be able to do EVERYTHING at a medium level at least. If something is done poorly, then you are not a jack of all trades, and merely just a kittenty class.
If we could do all of those things in a single battle wherever needed (e.g. if we wanted to do healing and then go over to do cc, then clean the walls etc.) then perhaps I might be tempted to agree with you. But we can’t. We pick one of those things, 2 at most, do it/them at a medium level and get beaten by the other classes who all can do 1 or 2 things, but at a GREAT level.
It doesn’t matter how many things we are capable of. It matters how many things we can do at a given moment. And if it is only what the other classes can do, but kittentier, then we have a problem.
You do know Engineers can rez themselves with Toss Elixir R right? It’s probably one of the best ways to avoid a stomp that any class has. Sure, it doesn’t always work, but consider the alternatives out there.
Multiple classes have better survivability; direct damage; condition damage and niche utility.
Tell us one reason a group would want an engineer for their 5th if they could pick any other class?
I know exactly why they want mesmers, guardians, thieves, necros, and elementists in PVP.
I know why rangers, and warriors are good in PvE. [I personally find runs alot more effective with both of these classes present (omg I love your ranger’s 15s water field! blast finishers & leaps)]
Whats the point if we don’t inherently do anything significant?
Not Sure If Serious [BZNZ] ||| Cynical [CYN]
crowd control.
pretty much the main thing we have going for us is crowd control.
of course in that regard a mace shield warrior is still better. jesus, now that i really think about it i think we might have a problem.
Engineer seems a waste of space when you could bring any other class, all of whom can specialise better and multi role better.
the main downside is engineers cant do anything on their own you need people tanking and distracting your target for almost anything.
In a game of hybrids, imposing hybrid tax on one particular class is just silly.
When your design doc for a class includes that their damage should be sub-par, you should probably rethink that class. The engineer’s inability to perform truly competitive DPS or really anything more than ‘sidekick’ rather offsets the awesome aesthetic.
And really, you make a class that uses guns and explosives and flamethrowers and SCIENCE and then decide their damage should be a bit lame.
