I’m not much of a PvP player, and only rarely bother with WvW for my monthly (I usually knock out those two objectives in a single day and then get the heck out of there), so please keep in mind that this is a PvE build. Mostly I use it for general event running, and sometimes a dungeon run or two, so please keep that in mind as well.

This is a modified version of my old pre-patch build. Since I’ve updated the gear (on paper, I haven’t gotten the new stuff yet) from my old precision/condition set to a more tanky one. I’ve also downplayed condition spam in favor of critical damage buffs.

Most notably however I ditched Elixir B in favor of Rocket Boots simply because they are now one of the most awesome skills in the game, and as such made me completely drop Alchemy from my trait line as well. I only ever invested in Alchemy for Cleansing Formula 409,and I didn’t want to keep that in for one skill. As such I dropped Elixir H as well. Needing a new healing skill I went with the Med Kit (I hate turrets) and as such invested in Tools to buff it, and while there I opted to go all in for the new version of Armor Mods. My new condition removal comes from the Sigil of Purity. Again I’m going for less of a glass cannon and more of a jack-of-all-trades damage/tank/support build.

So that is what I have right now. Please give me any advice or criticism you like, as I’m trying to get all the threoy crafting out of the way before I start investing my limited weekly play time in actually gather all the new gear I’ll need.

Tbh I think you have an ok build.

I would suggest trying HGH FT and EG with elixir B.

I haven’t had any issues with survivabilty.

It’s a toughness, vitality, condition, power, precision build balance. but works pretty well.

With FT and elixir gun its silly not to have might stacking.

I use carrion rabid and rampager gear, aiming for around 1000 power 1000 condi and 50% crit chance.

45% boon duration (85% might with runes) and 50% condi duration with food (33% burn with napalm.)

If you wanna jack of all trades this works well.

I haven’t tried yours tbh. but looks to have potential.

The only problem with this build is that it’s pure glass. You’re going to have a very tough time if you do temple runs. You’re likely to die on the first drop at Grenth, or get overwhelmed by the sheer number of risen at Balthasar.

The 33% extra burn duration is not worth it. Burn doesn’t stack in damage, just duration. Condition only applies damage on ticks, so your 1 second burn on the FT would need 100% condi duration in order to bump it to 2 seconds and deal the extra burn damage. To get 100% condi duration, you need 30 pnts into power, two giver weapons for +20% duration, mad king runes and I think lyssa runes for another +20% duration. Then your 33% burn duration would have value, but look at what you’re giving up just for all that.

I would rather remove the burn duration and put those 10 pnts into power because that will make your FT hit harder. That has greater DPS value than burn duration. I would also swap out rocket boots for the tool kit, and get rid of armor mods in favour of power wrench. Confusion is the strongest condition against mobs and they will drop like flies if you have high condi damage. Static shot + prybar + confusion bomb = death to all but the strongest mobs.

The only problem with this build is that it’s pure glass. You’re going to have a very tough time if you do temple runs. You’re likely to die on the first drop at Grenth, or get overwhelmed by the sheer number of risen at Balthasar.

I wear full Berserker on my FT/EG Engineer in just about everything in PvE and survive just fine. Temples, dungeons, guild missions, etc. etc. etc.

Only time I slot into my Soldier gear is when I’m fighting something I have the intention of tanking, like Shoggroth.

Surviving the Temple of Grenth event is all about proper placement and avoiding the vortex/portals. No amount of Vitality or Toughness will keep you alive when you get dropped from the ceiling repeatedly. And Balthazar is all about numbers.

OP: You need to find some way to fit Deadly Mixture into your build. I like Napalm Specialist in WvW/PvP, but in PvE it has relatively little place. You’re not the only one that will be stacking burning damage on targets in dungeons, so it’s not very necessary. I also think you’re fairly safe running without Incendiary Powder if you’re bringing Rocket Boots. You should have enough sustained burning without it to take advantage of the 10% damage increase through Rocket Kick.

If you want to check out my build, it’s in my signature. Optimized for PvE though, so don’t expect to take this into zergs and vacuum badges or take it into sPvP and roll face. If you want to know what builds I use with the FT in those situations, I’m welcome to bounce ideas.
