Please make a new Rocket Boots animation.
kitten, Acid Bomb looks more like what you’d expect of Rocket Boots than what you get :/
The whole ‘knocking yourself down’ bit is totally unneeded anyhow.
Just let us land on our feet and carry on.
You know what would be fun: if a random 10% of our jumps would actually knock us down.
Bit of RNG fun without really destroying us. Just like it is now, except than not all the time but just randomly every once in a while…
But basically: just make the jump cool and practical.
This and the lack of ENG SAB skins make me start to think Anet does not like the profession.
A simple fix will do, you’d want to use the boots to break stuns, chills, immobilize, any mobility related conditions, yet, they are applied on the animation most of the time, meaning that you will often travel 30cm instead of 150m.
We don’t even face our target after we eat grass. That is crap.
I play that game with my wife. If I want make her laugh I go for rocketboots and rifle.
Rifle #4, Rocketboots and she smile. Her comment is always: “Your skills are stupid”

Please Devs read this if we have enough posts. The animations for engineers are bad.
I would be fine with the stylistic nature of Rocket Boots self knock back if it had one of the following:
A)You were “Invulnerable” or gain Stability for Rocket Boots duration.
B)Stunned or Dazed players at launch point.
C)Knocked Down targets at launch point for equal duration as your own self knock down.
D)If it removed 2 conditions in addition to removing the movement impairing effects.

Utility skills (and skills in general) are there to give you the advantage over the enemy when fighting. Rocket boots does the opposite.
This is one of the main reasons I didn’t roll an engineer when the game released.
Rocket boots during early WotLK got me spoiled and going from something that shoots you around at breakneck speed to something that makes you look like a total doofus every time was a big disappointment.
Yeah but do we have to look like kittenes?

I believe it’s still “bugged” where it doesn’t cure the movement impairing conditions until after the movement triggers, meaning it is not a counter to those conditions… I believe that’s still the case anyways.
If you have stability on, you actually won’t knock yourself down, but you won’t move either, so there’s not much point to using it then except for the blast finisher.
Speaking of the blast finisher, it hate how it won’t work with a smoke field if you’re in melee range. It damages the enemy, so it immediately triggers the revealed buff, ruining your stealth escape. Same thing happens with the acid bomb on the elixir gun too. Doesn’t seem to happen with magnetic inversion though, even though that inflicts damage.
@ yam, agree, its the same problem with jump shot smoke bomb, the jump shot landing will break the stealth.. making it pointless
this is absolutely terrible as thieves use heartseeker to gain stealth, and it doesnt even break stealth if it hits.. pretty sure engi’s are the only ones with this reveal problem.. please FIX it anet

^This. I love rocket kick. Hits hard and works great coupled with pistol #4. Mad burn stacks quick. But the boots are just awful. They need to work a little closer to EG #4.

but the boots itself are only good for 1 thing: they move you out of harms way when you get stunned.
You can’t fight back, but at least they haven’t got you in melee range anymore…
I have NO clue why this skill needs the self-knockdown… really don’t.
Rocket Boots is the glass cannon of stun-breakers – and it doesn’t work for that reason.
Better to drop the self-stun and balance that with a longer CD, then it would get more use.

My guess is that rocket boots is our blink, or rtl. Except that since according to them engies aren’t suppose to have high mobility they threw in a hinder to our skill to balance it out.
Now that I think about it, maybe jump shot+ rifled barrels isn’t a bug, maybe it was designed that way O.o
That’s the only logical reason I can think of. But of course like this it is so pointless its not ever used seriously.

Oh, it IS bad.
And about point 3: the stunner indeed can catch up with you, so it’s more of a ‘reset’ than a real advantage.
In WvW in particular I often like the fact I get thrown out of harm’s way. It’s my escape button: immobilized, dazed, stunned, crippled… hit the button and end up far back.
Many times I have to get out of the aoe field, amore than just break one cc to get a dozen other cc’s re-applied the next moment
Elixir S does that as well, since it gives you 3 seconds of unhindered escaping. Swap to med-kit for swiftness or tool kit for another block soon after, and speedy kits let you even speed that run up.
I would take elixir S over the boots, but I would always take a stunbreaker in WvW that allows for movement, not just break the stun.
I just dont like the way the rocket boots work either. Don’t mind though, I don’t have to like all the skills to still enjoy the engineer.
The whole knockdown thing is unnecessary, and whoever gave ANET that idea that should be ashamed of himself.
The same can be said for Overcharged Shot. Other classes can knockdown foes on demand.. But the Engineer knocks himself down too?
Fix them both, please!
