Other than med kit…what’s the point in kits?

We don’t get two weapon set spots, so it’s not like we’re getting an EXTRA set of five skills, and it takes up a utility skill spot where every class gets a utility skill spot…

It’s like we get 1 less utility skill if we use kits, comparatively to the other classes.

Is there something I’m missing here?

None of these kits bear their weight as well in every situation as the regular weapons – They are not supposed to.
What you have them for is because all of them offer skills that are all situationally good. It’s how you combine these skills that matters.
For example I use toolkit a lot. This weapon is for many things – Pulling a foe in, aoe slows, a completely fantastic shield, and a prybar that both does good damage and confuses the foe. It also servers as the Engineer’s only melee weapon which is situational, but good.

There’s a also a lot of combos you can use kit skills for. I suggest looking them up.

Toolbelt skills.

Warriors get a single adrenaline skill, which must be charged up, that acts as a sixth weapon skill (but has to be recharged on its own, they can’t swap weapons and use it again).

We get a sixth weapon skill available at any given time, and an extra secondary skill for every other skill. All other classes get three skill slots, we get six, plus an extra healing skill. If you only use one kit, then you are only balancing out having a second weapon and STILL get a toolbelt skill as good as many other classes normal skill.
If you compare toolbelt skills only to specific skills of other classes you can always find one that you THINK is better, but on average toolbelt skills are on par with teir 1 and 2 skills of other classes.

On top of that you can cherry pick exactly which skill, from which kit you want to use at any time. All other classes have to make the “switch” knowing they won’t be able to switch back for some time. Even elementalists HAVE to use all four attunements if they want to get anywhere, and every-time they switch out of one attunement, they are risking not being able to get back to it if they need it. We have no such limitations.

It seems that you don’t know Engineer profession well dude !!
All skills are kits and I rarely use my rifle.
The best healing skill ( after MM necro as he got the best healing skill in the entire game which is his minions siphoning ) is our med kit as you have the bandages tool belt skill ( has short recharge time ) and 3 small bandages from the kit too. You forgot that med kit is very important as it’s a condition removal and gives you perma swiftness if you have speedy kit trait.

This is my build >> http://tinyurl.com/Bomber-Engineer
As for bomb kit , I believe that it has the strongest skills in the game. If u get power shoes + speedy kits traits u can just spamming its last 4 skills and the normal attack while just running ( melee foes won’t catch u ). Even If I stand and don’t move , the auto attack will kill any foe faster than any weapon in the game.
Grenades are good for bosses and ranged foes specially when you get grenadier trait.
Finally , mine kit is very useful for interrupting and damaging foes at the same time.

All 80es > MM necro is my best ,cleric

:o Oh how I miss mine kit! Too bad it’s been gone since BWE3 though!

OT: Most of the kit skills are worth a utility slot on their own. (fire bomb, confusion bomb, smoke bomb, pry-bar, gear-shield, magnet, acid bomb, super elixir, napalm, etc…)
And most of them are very situational and/or require a set-up.
Switch to them when needed and get back to your weapon. Or visa versa: stay in them when needed but regularly switch back to your weapon(s).

It’s not comparable with other professions because of it’s unique properties.
