I main elementalist but I had a bunch of ascended chests lying around so I was like “hey, I’m gonna try something new”. Engineer is pretty cool so I made one with Yassith (viper) gear, and the condition damage is really high.

I’ve found that power engineer is much more fun. But is it worth spending 70g to mystic toilet all my gear? Coming off my elementalist, the damage is pretty forgettable. Power engineer offers more “support” because of its easier rotation and more flexible trait/skill lineup, but I think power elementalist out-supports power engineer too.

So is there any reason to invest in power engineer if it is pretty much outclassed? I think guardian and thief also beat it in terms of power.

I also feel like because of scrapper’s utility in pvp, it is more nerf-able

It’s kind of hilarious to see this thread now, and I think it highlights the exact point made in the linked thread that for PvE they’re both fine (PvP power is probably better right now, but it doesn’t matter because there’s zero sunk cost to changing builds in PvP).

They’re both fine, as in, both subpar compared to an ele DPS wise. Utility wise, we don’t bring anything special. I’m sure glad our lord and savior Anet made us the masters of super speed and conditions but forgot to tweak raid bosses around that fact.
Realistically, the only raid boss where you’d justify bringing and engi over an ele is VG.

I’m not trying to enforce the meta, I hate it, but it is what it is.

If you are talking about another set of ascended, then sure go for it. If you are talking about switching the viper gear stats to another type, I wouldn’t. Just my humble opinion.

If you really like the engineer as a profession, I suggest you get yourself a full ascended Viper gear for raids and fractals (if you don’t do fractals, exo armor) aswell a semi full ascended Zerker gear (armor doesn’t matter, really, forget about ascended armor unless you are filthy rich) for raids, open world and dungeons.

• In open world and solo, power will almost always be better than condi, except for fighting high amounts of husks like in silver wastes.
• In high fractals condi will simply always outdamage power. Always.
• In raids it depends on the encounter, your allies and your utilities whether you should go power or condi. Both can be the optimum under individual circumstances.

TL;DR: Power Engi worth it? Yes, absoultely, definitly!
