Pro's and Con's for Engineer
pro’s:
highest base hp of ‘adventurer’ classes.(even though we play like a soldier class)
tons of condi cleanses, which are incredibly beneficial since the supermeta is condition builds.
some versatility
long range spammable aoes
toolbelt skills can hit hard
intense condi pressure second only to necro
con’s:
spammable aoes are quite hard to land and can be very situational(ignore the engineers that use grenades at <600 range)
most limited access to stability in the game
biggest damage skills are at <500 range
poison dart volley fires like the shooter is blind
incredible amount of turret bugs
most underplayed class, so it gets least amount of attention
the legendary rifle is meant only for warrior.
last but not least, it is a great class that requires a significant amount of understanding of the game to truly master. this is not the case of 6/8 of the rest of the classes.

Kinda curious what the other class is that your referring to

I’m willing to bet dollars to donuts that he means the Elementalist—the other class that requires you to be able to play the keyboard like a professional pianist to attain any measure of success! XD
Just a guess.

And you know, the possibility to fry something to ash with a flamethrower (ever wondered how the wooden gates in WvW can withstand that much fire?), thwack someone’s head with a wrench, throw some nails around (which coincidentally change into a box of piranhas under water, how mean is that), run around and poop bombs while healing self or party (though it’s not going to save anyone silly), and of course ye ole grenade kit, a free ride to carpal tunnel syndrome (but great damage, really. They say. I don’t use it. I already got carpal tunnel from healing in WoW).
And much more, of course.
Cons for me personally was that I rolled it as a very first toon, made it my main, scraped through the levels in a snail tempo alongside my husband’s warrior, and later on found out that the learning curve on an engineer truly is rather big. However, on the bright side, managing elementalist was easy after that, and not speaking of the breeze all the other classes were.

So I really enjoy the idea of engineer, and the game play seems fun when I tried this class out. I am just looking for tips on the Engi and some pros and cons before I make my decision to lvl the class to 80. Thanks in advance!
What is your idea of the engieer?
“Masters of mechanical mayhem, engineers love to tinker with explosives, elixirs, and all manner of hazardous gadgets. They can take control of an area by placing turrets, support their allies with alchemic weaponry, or lay waste to foes with a wide array of mines, bombs, and grenades.” -gw2 description
If you like the part “They can take control of an area by placing turrets” then your SoL.
But if you like the “support their allies selves with alchemic weaponry, or lay waste to foes with a wide array of mines, bombs and grenades.”
Then you will fit right in.
Pro. It’s a very funny profession that makes you smile.
Con. It’s very Trait dependant, so it doesn’t really shine until you have access to all kits and Traits (ie Level 80). Low level play is certainly doable, but it’s not a cake walk.
