Pure flamethrower kit build?

EDIT: This is for general PvE, Dungeons.

Has anyone managed to successfully create a pure flamethrower kit build- as in only using the 1 kit, coupled with elixirs, turrets, etc instead of kit swapping?

So far I’ve been running a condition P/P + elixirs build which had been doing great, but I wouldn’t mind a change. The only kit I actually like, though, is the flamethrower (and maybe the grenade kit).

Because I’ve never run the flamethrower kit before, I don’t know its nuances soooo I figured I’d come ask the pros! =D Does it have the damage to keep up with regular weapons alone or is kit swapping absolutely necessary? What about the grenade kit- same question.

Secondly- should I be aiming for power/precision for that build? I would imagine so…

Thanks in advance!

One of the best ones here. It even gives a guide how to place your trait points as you level. This is the one I follow, has’nt steered me wrong yet.

Enjoy!

Here is my build I call Flame Juggernaut -

With this build you get to be tanky, with self healing, 200 additional toughness, faster heals, shorter elixir cool-downs, constant stacks of might (usually 8 at once), constant crits, vulnerability on targets, longer burns, faster skill cool-down and much stronger flamethrower damage.

Major

  • Incendiary Powder: 33% chance to burn for 2 seconds on critical hits.
  • Precise Sights: 50% chance to cause vulnerability on critical hits.
  • Fireforged Trigger: Flamethrower and elixir gun skills recharge 20% faster.
  • Juggernaut: You gain 200 Toughness while wielding a Flamethrower. In addition, gain might for 15 seconds every 3 seconds, as long as you remain in this weapon kit.
  • Fast-Acting Elixirs: Elixir skills recharge 20% faster.
  • Deadly Mixture: Deal 15% extra damage with a Flamethrower or Elixir Gun.
  • Backpack Regenerator: Gain regeneration when using a kit.

Minor

  • Evasive Powder Keg: Creates a bomb when you dodge.
  • Sharpshooter: 30% chance to cause bleeding for 3 seconds on critical hits.
  • Target the Weak: 10% increased critical-hit chance against foes with less than 50% health.
  • Target the Maimed: 5% increased damage against bleeding foes.
  • Hidden Flask: Drink an Elixir B at 75% health.
  • Transmute: 3% chance to convert incoming conditions into boons.
  • Energy Conversion Matrix: Deal 1% extra damage for each boon on you.

If you want more damage, swap out regenerator for HGH and have 2 of each of the might runes – hoelbrak, strength and fighter I think for 60% duration, you should have a 10-11 stack minimum and often hit 18-20 stacks with a few elixir uses. But yeah it’s more of a spvp thing…

I use a build just like this for WvW too and I gotta say, it’s my favorite one yet and surprisingly useful despite its short range if you’re careful. I run with a mix of Valkyrie and Knights gear, which gives a good balance of damage and defense. I have yet to take it on a dungeon run, but my expectations remain high for it.

After some tweaking around back and forth, I came to a build very similar to the one Faction posted.
For PvE go for that with Power > Precision as main stats, and you will be solid.
I do disagree with eliU and with rifle being garbage, in team play there are times where rifle (only decent finishers and good long range control) will be important. Learn to mix appropriately, but damage will be all FT.

It’s fun, effective, and can be re-configured for various encounters easily enough. Be ready to swap a couple things based on encounters (you will need to handle conditions a lot in some places so medikit instead of eliH and Elixir C available, grenades instead of FT for heavy cond damage + kiting, grenades and FT for kiting to boss with no conds and so on).

It also does very well with nades and EG for those swaps, which makes it very versatile.

I am starting to grow very fond of healing kit instead of EliH though, and I definitely don’t like elixir U much unless it’s medikit + EU + shoes for map achis/travel if you’re not traited for speedy kits.

I also, some times, swap between crate and stability aspect, since in some places crate just gets one shot AoEd and knockbacks can get you rolled in a second (half of TA if you skip trash).
